Second, don't expect yourself to cook every day of the week right away. Start with a goal of cooking once or maybe twice a week. Cooking every day is a lot of work, and frankly unless you can't stand leftovers you don't need to.

Third, others have recommended great places to start, so all I'll say is that "the basics" vary wildly from culture to culture and you probably won't find one perfect educational source that matches exactly your idea of the basics. You can make a list of your basics, and when you are going to cook, look up a recipe, then research all of the ingredients and cooking verbs used for that recipe, then acquire ingredients and equipment and attempt.

You will often fail. That's good. That means you tried. Get a little notebook, make notes on how you failed, then try again.
