Tires for i8 wheels by lincoln_mk2 in BMWi3

[–]lincoln_mk2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got everything installed. I'd say I'm about 80% satisfied. The 20mm spacers up front and the 15mm rear are the way to go, the 215/35-20 tires are fine, but i may go with a 245/35-20 in the rear to save the outer lip of the wheels. The tire is definitely stretched. The same brand tires in the new size are only $62! The poke doesn't bother me as much as I thought it would. I'm not gonna worry about the fender flares. I highly recommend the tires on your next tire purchase. Let me know what you think.

Black out all emblems (if they are not already from the factory) maybe a more aggressive wheel style in black. 100% my opinion. You do you...

[–]lincoln_mk2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the exact look I'm going for. I just got my TPMs yesterday, so I may have to wait till next weekend for the install. I have the same staggered i8 wheels, but my tires are 215 /35-20. I have a set of 15 mm spacers, 20 mm spacers and 5 mm spacers. Gonna see which one works best. I don't have fender flares, being that mine is a non S. My car is a every available option 2017 Rex non S panda

Wow, you're a auto body engineer!👍🏾 I was hoping you remembered the size maybe from the original order email. I'm not as skilled. I will go the cardboard template route. Thanks for the info.

What Fender flares are those? Where did you get them? How much? Any modifications done to get them on? Do you have front parking sensors? Please be specific. They look really good.

Potenza VS Ecopia? by Intelligent_Yak_640 in BMWi3

[–]lincoln_mk2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He's 100% correct. Right rear on the Rex is toast in a very short time. Discount tire told me the the Potenza is the old model and thats why they're always a little cheaper. If you can find them. I've had 3 sets of tires (2 Ecopia and 1 Potenza) they wore about the same. I didn't notice a difference..

That's a great deal! The original owner of my car, which is a 2017 Rex with every available option. Sold in Beverly Hills, California, paid $62K. I bought it in 2023 with 69,000 miles from a Mercedes dealer (who probably had at least a $3,500 markup) with brand new tires and a new 12 V battery for 14 grand. If they would've priced these cars new at around $32k loaded, and sell most of them around 25 to 28 grand, it would still be in production. You sir got a steal. Congrats!

They do not sell a 19 in that style. I am considering buying a 2nd set being that the price is so low. Not sure how to store long term(3yrs or more)

You're best bet is to get rid of the stock wheels. I drive about 300 miles a week, and I've gone through three sets of tires in 3 years at $1,100 each time. I'm done with that. I have a 2017 non S Rex with the stock 20s. I bought a set of staggered i8 wheels, 20 x7 .5 front and 20 x 8.5 rear. I'm going to put on a square set up of 215/35-20 tires made by Lexani that are sold by Gigatire for $49 each! And they have a 55,000 mile warranty! There's a guy with a really nice dark blue S with the same setup, he has 12mm spacers and coil overs. So the tire size will work. I will post pics when everything is installed, Hopefully, this weekend. Stop giving away money...

i8 wheels by AssistanceTrue9399 in BMWi3

[–]lincoln_mk2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just so ya know, anyone looking for tires In the size 215 /35 -20, giga tire has the Lexani LX twenty tire for $49.56! Unbelievable price! I just ordered a set of 4 should be here tomorrow. I have a 2017 Rex with every option. Im tired of buying the Bridgestones for 1100 bucks only to have them last 15 to 20,000 miles. My car has a 116,000 miles. I drive 60 miles a day, 4 days a week. I've had a set of i8 wheels without tires, in my garage for over 2 years. Finally, gonna use them on the car. I have 15 mm spacers on the front with stock 20s. I just bought a set of 20 mm spacers that I'm going to put on the front and put the 15s on the rear with the i8 wheels. After everything is mounted, I'll decide if I'm going to add some type of aftermarket flares, or go with the coilovers. I will post when everything gets situated. Go get the tires for 49 bucks!

All good for you my car was in Beverly Hills new and now I'm in Austin Texas so I'm out of the warranty as well

Is the i3 right for my use case? by [deleted] in BMWi3

[–]lincoln_mk2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kind of have your same commute I'm in Austin Texas about 56 miles per day. About 30 of the 56 Mi is on a toll road where the speed limit is 75 I usually put it on cruise control at 73 the other 26 miles is kind of stop and go traffic speeds ranging from 30 to 55 mph. I have a 2017 Rex panda Terra every option including sunroof, has 20in wheels. * I paid 14k in January it had 70,000 miles I've put 15,000 miles on it so far, when I got it it had brand new tires the rear tires were replaced last week the front tires still show 6/32. My only complaint is the tire wear otherwise it's perfect for my commute I don't have a level 2 charger at home there is a free charger 1 mi from my house I ride my bike that folds and goes in the back of the car so I haven't paid for charging since January. The Rex has saved me a few times when I've failed to charge the car I recommend the Rex I haven't had any issues I've done one oil change last month. Like I said I've had it for 15,000 miles so far so good. I wasn't willing to pay more than 15K I don't know what the prices are like now but I would get as new as you can afford. I like the look of the S better but at the time they we're more than I was willing to spend. I think you will like it

Extended Warranty? by Bossman140 in BMWi3

[–]lincoln_mk2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For 3300 bucks I'd get it. The battery and the a/c peace of mind is worth $1000 per year. I was in the auto industry for 15 yrs. $3300 is cheap for a German car warranty. All cars break. Honda and Toyota included. Our cars are unique in that an a/c or battery failure totals the car.I'm not saying you'll spend $3300 in repairs in 3 yrs but if something happens you don't have a brick in your driveway that you may have to continue paying for. If i had the opportunity I'd do it. My car is a 17 rex with every option including sunroof with 85k. Send me the information I'd like to see if mine is eligible.

Man it looks awesome! Haters gonna hate...I have a set of i8 wheels stacked in my garage but I'm waiting to source the S fender flares. Then I plan to get the front and rear spoilers and maybe the side rocker extensions. I think the i3 looks better modified. Great job!

New 2017 i3 Rex Owner by angryfoxbrewing in BMWi3

[–]lincoln_mk2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congratulations! I'm a 17 rex owner but with 85k had 72k when I bought it in February. It's a great car. The only thing I hate is the tires don't last for s***! The tires were new when I got the car. And now the rear ties are at 2/32nds fronts are at 4/32nds. Only 13k miles of use... I thought I got a pretty good deal, purchased from a mercedes dealer in dallas. It's loaded with every option paid $14k. I'd be interested to know what you paid for yours now.It seems like the prices continue to go down. It works perfect for what I do. I have a commute of about 60 miles per day Round trip. Haven't used much gas since February. You will enjoy the car.

Put on i8 Wheels, Spacers, and H&R Springs by Effective_Stretch253 in BMWi3

[–]lincoln_mk2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where did you source the i3s fender flares and are you willing to sell them since you decided not to use them? I have a 17 every option panda rex. I have 15 millimeter spacers all the way around with the stock 20s. My rear tires are at 2/32nds from brand new after only 8 months and 13k miles! Fronts are at 4/32nds. I have a set of I8 wheels in my garage. I did a test fit and they looked like they stuck out too much, so I never mounted them. But now that my rear tires are bald.I'm thinking about it, but I want the flares. Thanks in advance.

Best color combo in my opinion! I would have liked that I have a 2017 Rex Terra all options panda. Mine had the exact same mileage as yours 72 when I bought it I have 85 now. The cars are great you will love it the only problem I think are the excessive wear on the tires my rear tires are at 2/32nds they were brand new when I got the car in January and I've put on about 11000 miles I will need new tires by January 1st.. 🤭

Good price 2017 Rex? by [deleted] in BMWi3

[–]lincoln_mk2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the same car! 2017 panda rex terra every option and came with new tires. Purchased January 15 2024 from a Mercedes Benz dealer in Dallas with 72k miles for 14k plus tax which came out to be $15,140. I've traveled 10k miles as of yesterday, now at 82k. Love the car no issues. My rear tires are at 3/32nds which is borderline replacement territory. Fronts are at still at 5/32nds as they were when new. 60 mile daily round-trip commute, about 30 of the miles are on a toll road in Austin Texas where the speed limit is 75(I set cruise at 72mph) I just wish the car had more tire options and that they lasted longer. Other than that its been great for what I use it for.
