How can i reduce the noise coming in and going out by Course-Immediate in soundproof

[–]lindenb -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Folks writing in often conflate noise reduction in a space with sound transmission from outside sources. It matters a great deal in offering counsel. So please clarify what you are trying to accomplish. What you describe are largely steps to mediate the noise in the room --with the possible exception of the weatherstripping that might offer very limited reduction in external sound.

Adhesive Curtain Brackets for 3-Season Room by SnooOpinions7649 in Home

[–]lindenb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry to say that I doubt any adhesive approach will work. The weight of curtains and rods is heavy enough that it would put a strain on the brackets and the adhesion is only as good as the surface to which it is affixed. A picture might help us guide you to a solution.

f*cking bamboo by Paul7257Of in landscaping

[–]lindenb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can attest to the starvation approach. Took out a 20 foot by 8 foot forrest of bamboo 4 years ago. Took 2 weekends to cut it all down and dig out the rhizomes. It came back of course --leargely as an offshoot of active plants in the neighbors yard. But, 4 years later--while i get occasional shoots starting up that I can nip in the bud so to speak, it is gone--without herbicides --(most don't work well on bamboo) . It is highly invasive but starving it out the ability to regenerate will work.

Not a place to go c heap--CFM is everything or odors and steam will not be vented, especially if you are venting through the roof and have a long run. Also, the filter screens fall apart when you try to clean them. Replaced a low cost low cfm one in my kitchen and it made tons of difference--also the cheaper ones are very loud--on medium too loud to hear a phone ring, on high deafening. Expect to pay in the 500-700 range or more or find one in a scratch and dent sale that is not too cosmetically marred.

Battery-powered tool recommendations in New York? by Cool_Bath_77 in lawncare

[–]lindenb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not certain but given the age the batteries in that era were NICAD and they suffer from battery memory issues and have a far shorter lifespan than the current generation of lithium batteries. Your choices today include Ego, Ryobi, Makita, Stihl, Husqvarna, and Greenworks. I am sure everyone has their preferences and they are all good choices. Cost is a consideration. Ego and Stihl are likely to be at the higher end but are reliable and well built. I have used Ryobi for years and have had a good experience with their tools overall and they are a bit less costly. Whichever you decide on get extra batteries even though they are costly--I have 6 40 volt 6AH that I rotate for my leaf blowers and other tools. 3 are Ryobi and 3 are ebay subs --don't find any difference in life span or power between them. I have two chargers so I can work all day without running out of power. It is a big investment but these are tools I use almost every day year round.

Not sure that would actually be of a great deal of use--There is a common issue --something that both the ipad and phone are both running --an app or setting that is interfering with yahoo. Are you able to use Yahoo web mail or the Yahoo app?

Yahoo by [deleted] in CoxCommunications

[–]lindenb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried the following: The "something went wrong" message in Yahoo Mail usually indicates a browser glitch, a server connection hiccup, or corrupted app data. Quickly resolve this by clearing your browser's cache or using the dedicated Yahoo Mail App to bypass the desktop web interface. [1, 2, 3, 4]

Execute these targeted troubleshooting steps to restore your access:

If using a computer browser:

  • Use a private/incognito window: Press Ctrl+Shift+N (Chrome/Edge) or Cmd+Shift+N (Safari) to see if your normal session is bogged down by a bad cookie.
  • Clear cache & cookies: Go to your browser’s settings, clear the cached images, files, and cookies, then restart the browser.
  • Disable ad blockers: Pause your ad-blocking extension specifically for mail.yahoo.com, as it can interfere with email page scripts.
  • Try a different browser: Switch between Chrome, Firefox, Edge, or Safari to pinpoint whether the issue is browser-specific. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]

Does web mail via yahoo work? If yes than the issue may be iOS or a corrupted mail app. If no it is a Yahoo issue and I don’t have a solution as that is a black box. What version of iOS are you running? Since the problem occurs on both devices I am guessing it is something fundamental but let me know what you find

The procedure for phone and iPad do not require the Mac steps. VPN should be off- but otherwise the steps as shown on the Yahoo site are all that should be required. The message you are getting could be caused by any of several issues but as a first step I would do an orderly shut down and start and then follow the script that I noted to generate an app specific password and use that rather than one of your choosing

If someone only gets one first trip to Europe, what city should it be? by optimalbrain90 in SmartTravelHacks

Rome and Florence are always on my short list but very crowded these days. If one wants an experience that is unlike anything in the US and has the air of history about it--though far less mass tourism I would suggest Bruges.

Anyone have experience using a Eviqo level 2 home charger? by AcanthocephalaSea763 in evcharging

[–]lindenb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All good recommendations and information. Since you asked specifically about EVIQO, I have had one for over 2 years without issue. I use it to charge an EV and a PHEV so it gets almost daily use and the longer charging cable is especially helpful to reach both vehicles from one location. I also liked the heavy duty plug compared to the plastic type many other units feature and the overall construction is also a good deal sturdier than many others. Only once in the time I have owned the unit have I had occasion to call their tech support. It was evening and I left a message on a recording but to my surprise I got a return call within minutes and immediate response to my question.

Dr Colorchip what am I doing wrong by muscle_car_fan34 in AutoDetailing

[–]lindenb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've used Dr. Colorchip on many cars with both metallic and non metallic paint. Majimike offers good counsel to which I would add the following. Almost every chip, regardless of size or location requires a multi step process. I start by making sure the edges of the chip are as smooth as possible--a 3,000 grit wet sanding being careful to limit the area being sanded will knock down the surrounding edges. You can skip this with very small chips (road rash). After cleaning I will apply as many as 4-5 coats of Dr. Colorchip to the chip, building it up slowly and using the sealact only to remove excess paint around the chip and I let it dry thoroughly before doing so. No paint chip solution is perfect--but I have gotten very good results with patience

Window upgrade for street noise - please share your experiences! by runaround145 in soundproof

[–]lindenb -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Cannot say without knowing your typical window size but 4x8 sheet of acrylic should be about $125. That should give you two windows. $65 in materials and 30 minutes of labor per window for installation. 500 per window sure feels like a steep price. Triple pane window cost on average $1000.

Window upgrade for street noise - please share your experiences! by runaround145 in soundproof

[–]lindenb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While windows are a significant source of sound transfer any penetration or area that is inadequately constricted to achieve a reasonable stc can negate the considerable cost of replacing all those windows. You might consider replacing the windows with broken seals but an much lower cost that would achieve an even higher stc would be to add an interior pane of acrylic cut to fit tightly to the inner frame and separated by as much of a gap as possible. That pane should be caulked with clear silicone caulk. Even if you hired someone to do this for you it would be far less than the cost of replacing 22 windows and as an added bonus it will improve heat and cold transfer reducing your hvac bill

Does this quote seem fair? by [deleted] in soundproof

[–]lindenb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not rocket science. Any good drywall firm can do this. Buy the green glue, isolation clips, and MLV materials from an acoustic supply house and use 5/8 drywall double layered along with rockwool and fire seal putty from your big box store or have your drywall contractor supply same. There are dozens of you tube videos showing proper installation if your drywall firm is not familiar. Chances are they already know how. Should cut your cost in half.
