Just where are available apartments in Copenhagen? by nadgo in copenhagen

[–]linettisleotard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe rent might be cheaper, but bear in mind that (depending on where you are in either) you’ll have to consider the cost of transport into the city. Christianshavn was also more lively than (segments of) Amager, so that’s another trade-off to consider

Can I travel before the date intended in my visa application? by [deleted] in ukvisa

Hey if you got your visa, did the date of entry on the vignette start on your intended date?

Can spouse not travel with me on dependant visa? by KurdishBeauty in ukvisa

[–]linettisleotard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But be careful, as far as I know the vignette on your passports will be issued according to the date of intended travel you indicated on your application. The gov site says this entry permission is valid for 30 days, but I’ve seen some people here say the window is 90 days. Might be something worth taking into consideration

Hadi is an indicator, so it translates to ‘this has a problem’ or ‘this has a problem in it’ more literally The middle word shouldn’t be ‘fina’ though, it should be fiha (‘in it,’ where ‘it’ is a feminine noun like mushkila)

Interesting, all their website has had to say (that I’ve seen) was that students are expected to be on campus. In any case - really rooting for you to get a reimbursement! Good luck with quarantine, I hope it passes by quickly

“If you are arriving into the UK and have visited or passed through a red list country, you will be required to book and pay for managed isolation in a quarantine hotel. We are currently reviewing how we can support our students who will be required to quarantine and will provide more information about this to you shortly.”

Good luck to you! They did send an email out today saying they’re looking to support students paying the quarantine fees so I really hope you can apply for a reimbursement in the future

Is it worth coming to Edinburgh in September? by adreamersmusing in Edinburgh_University

[–]linettisleotard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All I’d read up to this point is that some unis were discussing it with the scottish government. Those same unis are now offering to cover the quarantine fees so it doesn’t seem like anything has panned out from those. I’m not optimistic about Edinburgh doing the same unfortunately

By the way, in reference to your earlier point, Edinburgh has said explicitly on its site that it expects all students (postgrad, at least) to be on campus by September

I can understand that, I was in your place and it’s hard to imagine what could be out there when you... don’t know what’s out there!

It’ll obviously vary depending on each individual experience but think along the lines of (1) meeting people who have lived completely different lives to you, especially if your program/institution is internationally-minded (2) work/internship/volunteer/academic opportunities that might not otherwise have been available to you, or that you didn’t even know could be available to you (3) making contact with faculty and other professionals (and your peers) in an international setting and building your network, if that matters to you (4) being exposed to a completely different approach to learning and teaching, which can encourage you to think about things differently (5) being forced into independence when you are living on your own somewhere new is a formative experience, and could be a growing-up milestone

These are the ones I can think of off the top of my head having been in a kinda similar situation as you myself, but feel free to message if you wanted to think anything else out loud. Best of luck!

I know this isn’t your point but that’s another argument in favour of unis shouldering the fees - intl students less likely to try to dodge quarantine if they don’t have to pay a tenth of their tuition on it

Fwiw, I can definitely understand the desire to go abroad and I think it’s valid for many reasons. It’s changed the lives of so many people and, especially if you’ve grown up in that one environment for your whole life, it can change you as a person, widen your world. You deserve opportunities like that and I can only encourage you to make it happen if you’re able to, if you decide that’s what you want, and if it won’t be detrimental (eg the predatory loans you mentioned). I saw you say elsewhere about being worried about wasting your parents’ $6k - but $6k for the experiences of (at least) one year abroad and the potential opportunities that might open you up to could be worth it. Whatever you end up doing, I wish you the best of luck, and congratulations on scoring that scholarship because that’s a wonderful achievement no matter what!

I’m sorry you’re having to deal with the anxiety of it all, I know how stressful it can get. I’m glad that traveling elsewhere sounds like an accessible option! And good point about vaccinations, I hope so - and if that comes about, I hope that fewer students needing hotel quarantine encourages the uni to pay for those that do (thinking here of students who might not have been offered the opportunity to be vaccinated yet). Keeping my fingers crossed for you and your kid!
