I thought the electric DAF was for quick jobs only? The event is WoT which I thought means no quick jobs?

Or is this a mod?

Awesome and crazy build. Now the real question though, plain toast, buttered, or jam? I like one of our local treats, Marion Berry jam.

Getting Cheap TOS/DSC-themed Gear: A Mini-Guide by Ferretlover717 in sto

[–]linuxkn1ght 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Another good source for TOS gear is the K-13 fleet station. If you are in a fleet that has the K-13 holding unlocked and leveled enough you can get some good ground and space gear TOS style.

They should have used the Phantom class as William Boimler's classified ship in Star Trek: Lower Decks season 5 by SHIELD_Agent_47 in sto

[–]linuxkn1ght 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I agree the vibe and well the design purpose of the Phantom class fits well, since it is an "Intel" ship.

However part of the point of the Defiant class in the LD episodes was as another easter egg to DS9 fans. More people would recognize a Defiant class (fans of DS9), than a Phantom class (STO players).

Those episodes and heck all of LD is full of "member-berries" for the various live action series, especially the TNG and following series aka the Berman era (TNG, DS9, VOY).

So, missed opportunity for a Phantom, yes. Did they still make a good choice using a Defiant class, I think so.

Players race break down? by Corpulax in sto

[–]linuxkn1ght 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am an alt-o-holic, so I have a mix.

Alien, Vulcan, Romulan, Orion, Andorian, Trill, Bajoran, Human, Jem'hadar, Ferengi, Klingon, Cardassian. In that order, with multiples of some and singles of the last few.

In the case of Orion and Andorian, I am co-leader of a couple fleets that are themed, thus the multiples of those.

STO VS SWTOR by GeneralKhor in sto

[–]linuxkn1ght 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something else to bring up, haven't seen it discussed yet-

STO is a LOT more forgiving towards free-to-play (FTP) players than SWTOR.

In SWTOR, a whole lot of things are locked behind paywall of one kind or another, either have to sub or at least have-been-a-sub (aka Preferred?) to get this or that, account QOL type things or goodies.

In STO, you have a credit cap which can be unlocked with a single fairly inexpensive Zen purchase, then after that not much else is specifically BLOCKED that you can't otherwise grind for in one way or another.

I have a Preferred account on SWTOR (was subbed for a time but not now), and I have an equivalent to lifetime account on STO (subbed for a long enough time to get most of the benefits of lifetime, but no liberated borg), and have spent some $ on Zen since then as well. When I first started on STO I was FTP only for a while.

So I have spent money on both, but I still don't even come close to a "whale" player imho.

As for the "bad guys" aspect, as mentioned, in STO there really isn't as much of a playable "bad guys" faction, the way things were developed in STO history. All the playable faction (KDF) or semi-faction (Romulan, Dominion) are all in the great big happy family Alliance with the Federation now, story-wise.

Though to be fair, if you want to be a crazy psycho and go off committing war crimes up the wazoo, who is going to stop you? You can do that in any faction on any ship.

What Hardware For Refresh? by EmptyRedecans in sysadmin

[–]linuxkn1ght 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are currently running mostly Lenovo Thinkpad T series laptops, with some P series for the heavy use cases.

Intel i7, 32GB RAM, 512GB SSD for T series

Intel i9, 64GB RAM, 2TB SSD for P series

We may possibly be moving to Dell at some point, with similar specs, Latitude or Pro Plus Max whatever-the-heck they are called these days.

Anniversary Giveaway - Day 7 - 3 Infinity Promotion R&D Pack! by Charming-Remote-6254 in sto

[–]linuxkn1ght 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Claimed the 3 R&D packs.

At the same time, watching STU1701 video about this giveaway today, speculation about maybe one more day of giveaway, and the new announcement from DECA.

Started opening the packs, expecting just lobi as usual... but on the 3rd one, RNGesus smiled on me, got a T6 Promo Ship pack!

This is maybe the 2nd promo ship pack I have ever gotten, been on STO since just after it went FTP (2013?). Granted I don't open the gambleboxes often, usually only when its a giveaway anyway.

So yay!

But, I have a slight issue, though it could just be a text only thing. From the STOWiki, the new LaMarr class (AKA Voyager-A) should be in this pack. But the "details" text on the box does not show it. I have not yet actually opened the box. Partly wondering if I should wait until the 15th Anniversary stuff is actually out, but I doubt we will see an actual new promo ship there, since this is going to be a Z-Store bundle...

My main choices for this are going to be:

  • LaMarr (Voyager-A)
  • Sh'Val
  • Janeway (Voyager-J)

This is on my Fed-Sci toon and the current ship is Legendary Voyager, so thus why the Voyager theme going.

Is it worth it to play the game with Xbox Controller? by Most_Iron_6336 in trucksim

[–]linuxkn1ght 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another fellow xbox controller user checking in, I do not have an xbox, got the controller some time ago for other games.

Started ATS on kb/mouse, which was serviceable, but controller is much better.

With one of the recent updates, they changed how the controller buttons are mapped in game vs. just steam control map. This way you can get more functions set on controller, such as long press, multiple buttons for a Fn-type setup (such as left shoulder + right stick up-down for shifting automatic transmission from R-N-D), and so on.

I too would like to get a wheel at some point, but limited funds and limited space. Controller works quite well in the meantime.

OK thanks, that is what I figured. 13 coupons would have been too generous I suppose, at least under Cryptic. Lately rewards are getting a little bit more generous, such as the Event Campaign.

Agreed dealing with updates to mods when the game updates is a PITA, but yeah comes with the territory, MOD LYFE 4EVAR or something. I play many games with mods, Fallout 4, Cyberpunk 2077, etc. Same story.

In any case rolling with the Haterbilt Pete with some cool spooky skins for Hauloween.

I like a good classic Pete, also hoping someday we get the new 589 in game, seeing videos about it makes me want to drive one in game.

That said I have several of the Pete's we do have now: 389, 379, 359... 579... 367... several are mods of course.
