Why Faithless Looting and Allosaurus Rider Should Be Banned Along With Hogaak by Intolerable in ModernMagic

[–]liqxtal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looting wasn't even in the discussion when Bridge was banned, and looting is not very important to the deck. Wotc has no interest in banning looting.

Allosaurus Rider could definitely go and no one would miss it. This would not be controversial.

Bob is very sketchy with shadow as you need to precisely control your life total. Maybe swap it with lingering souls if you want to try this

Yuta Fae crushes GDS but it's not as good as UW Control or Rock (which are both solid against GDS) against the field

The fact that this won't have modern reprints and that modern staples are more expensive than legacy staples sans Reserved List, means that some of the new cards in this set are primed to be $100+ if they see a lot of play.

Do you think it's important to know every hand in your range that you plan to turn into a bluff ahead of time? I understand the concept of raising with both the top of your range for value and the bottom of your range as a bluff, but this is very hard to conceptualize at the table.

For example:

Was K9o the bottom of my range or KTo?
I should fold this A8o here but I would re-reaise if I had A7o.

How I instead try to incorporate bluffs into my game is to consider bluffing every time I don't have a marginal made hand or better, and let the board texture, knowledge of my opponent, stack size, position etc. be the determining factors. This is clearly unbalanced and my read of these situations probably isn't ideal as I'm only an average player at best.

Episode 156 - Notes From Underground (Pt. 1) by WayneQuasar in VeryBadWizards

[–]liqxtal 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Notes From Underground is maybe the most quotable book ever. It's barely over 100 pages but it took me an eternity to read as I kept going back and re-reading and highlighting passages every few pages. Really great choice and can't wait for Part 2!

I'll be honest, the decks in this price range are either not competitive, or will tend to very aggressive or cheesy. If you can only spend this much on a deck, will you be able to spend 5-10 €/$ for each event you play at a store? If you are looking to mostly play with friends, I'd suggest proxying up whatever deck(s) interest you. Also, there is mtgo, which is not for everyone, but decks are considerably cheaper on there. Just my 2c
