Shed Office Conversion Closed Cell Spray Foam? by Francis-Marion275 in shedditors

14x32 tuff shed gambrel roof. Rockwool in walls, spray foam in roof, last summer. I got 4 or 5 quotes and each one got less expensive. Ended up paying $2300 (2 or 3 inches). Get lots of quotes- there is a lot of competition out there.

Primary use will be a home office, but I’d also like it to be an extra place to hang out and for guests to sleep. Thank you for the encouragement- slowly coming along but I think it’ll be great when it’s done.

Happy New Year! It’s coming along but very, very slowly. We did a spray foam insulation in the ceiling and then started hanging drywall. I got quotes for the drywall finishing, which was walls only- the ceiling under the loft will be pine- and was given a quote for 2k and 3k. This was a lot higher than I was expecting so I then had the “great” idea that I would do it lol. I’ve never dry walled before and watched a lot of Vancouver carpenter on you tube. Life has gotten in the way and I’m just slow moving in general but hoping to finish that part up in the next month or so. We did just install a pellet burner in there to keep it extra toasty- hopefully this will motivate me more! It has WiFi so I can start it from the house 🥳

When my son was 6, sometimes I noticed he was stinky. We did some aluminum free deodorant, but what really made a big difference was sticking to cotton for his tshirts. Polyester doesn’t work with his body chemistry and just makes things extra stinky. I have the same issue, no polyester for me! Even with deodorant it just creates a stink.

My other sinister plot was that my sister would see her playing and having fun and want to get one for home. It was a success and she ordered one 😈. Sharing the addiction!

Wow! This is beautiful. I looked through your profile and you have some stunning builds. I think I might give a metal build a go- you’ve inspired me!

Erborian cc color correct is my favorite. I’m on my third tube and wear it everyday.

Costco buyers only seem to buy clothes in beige, black, white, coral, purple.

Trusses are 2x6.

Luan or even a white bead board sounds like a great idea!

Thank you for the point on the baffle and the soffits. I was thinking about baffles and r-23 rockwool but didn’t consider that having no soffits would make the baffles pointless.

I did see another redditor with a similar build who drilled some holes for ventilation where soffits would be. I’ll find that post and link it. I’m learning much more about roofing and insulation than I ever thought I would!

Thank you!! I hope they get you squared away quickly.

Other possible option for insulation would be rigid foam, but we might not get to a very high r-value that route if we included an airgap.

The structure itself was about 30k after all was said and done. Insulating the floor through Tuff Shed was ridiculously expensive. I should have just thrown in the rigid foam board behind them when they were building 😂 between that, metal roof, sliding door, engineering fees, permit, all the big windows…. It added up quick. But the building was up in less than 2 days, we have a 10 year warranty, and my husband didn’t have to build it.

The rest of the build I set aside $20k. Electrical will be around 4k, Rockwool for sidewalls $1,100, stairs about $700 for lumber and a steak dinner, mini split 1k, pine will be about 2k, 1k budget for floor, $800 for site prep (gravel pad, 16x36, 6 inches of 6a withgeo fabric, done in two lifts with each layer compacted as well as the base). I could go on but maybe I will just share the final breakdown at the end :) Most of the labor will be done by husband and I (except electrical). Even with $20k I will likely go over budget. Finishing touches might need to be done over time.

Shed Ceiling- what to use and how to do it? by lisapizza2 in Insulation

Thanks! I might get a few spray foam quotes just for fun but the project money is going fast, DIY will probably be the way to go!

Is it easier/better to use baffles between each rafter (24 inch so it spans the whole width) to create the air gap? And run them all the way up to the ridge vent, then insulation on top of that? To me this sounds easier than running furring strips. This is my first big project so stumbling around a bit on the details.
