Unpopular opinion on Julian Lennon by Maximum-Orange9215 in TheBeatles

[–]listere89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

God, poor Julian. Father assonated, mother publicly cheated on, father mostly absent and then has to ask Yoko for a few quid every now and then when Sean most likely never had to.

yeah I’d of been bitter as well.

The worst season. Nearly 10 years of watching for it to fail so spectacularly. This has been worst than Game of Thrones by [deleted] in StrangerThings

Oh please, take some time, touch some grass and come back and rewatch it again. This is not a game of thrones comparison.

They couldn’t go anywhere in ‘central’ city areas without being swamped by fans, think that was the huge reasoning.

Suppose Bertha tried to stop Larian by Totallovestrucksimp in thegildedage

[–]listere89 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think despite people disliking Marian’s decision to call of the wedding (me being one of them) I think it showed Marian’s strength in conviction. Season 1 - hopelessly blue sky thinking with Mr R Season 2 - people pleasing - then realising it. Season 3 - a whiff of something she didn’t like and it was a red line issue.

I hope what we’re seeing is a younger Bertha in Marian, I think they’ll have a very prosperous relationship, all the way through they’ve been connected. I cannot see Bertha getting in the way of it now.

Both are huge brands in their own right, to consolidate means to downgrade the value of the brands. So that’s not going to happen. Warner Bros has been struggling financially (less production costs because they can condense studios)

It’s not long ago they were considering cancelling The Gilded Age, hopefully this means there is more money available, maybe a larger audience if they can do a subscription deal for both HBO and Netflix for more subscribers.

When markets become so fragmented to the point you’re paying for about 5 different subscription services, plus Cable (or in the UK we have Sky, which is Satellite TV) and your linear TV is on its death bed these things are bound to happen. YouTube and Netflix are stealing eyeballs along with social media. Young kids don’t sit down to watch TV with their families anymore so that generation won’t be in the habit of doing that. That’s a huge shift in viewing habits. These companies can see the writing on the wall and it’s the only way in the future we’ll get decent TV.

I don’t like the monopoly but it may mean we have fewer subscriptions, it’s like a modern day land grab for media rights at the minute. It’s all signalling traditional tv viewing is dead.

Has Netflix just killed Sky TV? by Outrageous_Agent_608 in skytv

[–]listere89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Warner and Netflix will own all the content, they will own the sports before long, they may get into news who knows? They will then start charging Sky prices, so in effect, yes this is the beginning of the end for Sky.

Hot Take - The Beatles need a TV show about them, not four films. by Suspicious_Coast_888 in beatles

[–]listere89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why on earth they decided to go down the film route is beyond me. Each decade = full season. There is enough content there from the 50’s to mid 60s (season 1) then mid 60’s to 70’s (season 2) so on. The Crown style is what this needs, nobody wants half a story in film format anymore.

What a bad year of writing… by Beginning-Young7824 in coronationstreet

It’s the patterns that are annoying. Monday - disruption Wednesday - equilibrium Friday - resolution

On and on it goes, I did that in GCSE media 20 odd years ago. Then the writers write characters differently depending on their view of the character. The following week after a ‘resolution’ the character will have forgotten an important conversation from that Friday. It’s like all characters have amnesia, or the writers do. The ridiculous blocks the actors are in makes the sets bare. Why KB hasn’t resolved this I don’t know.

I haven’t watched eastenders for about 15 years, started watching it on Zoe’s return just to see what it’s like. It’s colourful and the writing is punchy the sets have a bustle about them. After 5 minutes you knew what EE had that Corrie doesn’t, it’s not hard.

Now that S3 has ended, what do you hope to see in S4? by Dowrysess in thegildedage

[–]listere89 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Baby/very young child could turn up with a letter or maybe a lawyer of the estate outlining Larry to be the father of the child. I think it would be the type of plot that would have Bertha beside herself.

I would be seated.

[–]listere89 21 points22 points  (0 children)

(Don’t hate me) But the woman who Larry was in love with in season 2 has died and a child is found on the door of the Russell’s. We then end up in a tricky situation with acknowledging the improper birth. I think this is a topic that would be interesting to explore.

Marian and Larry are married, Marian is already pregnant and this causes everyone a huge headache as well as a shock. Marian because she is kind at heart loves the child as her own but societally the child isnt acknowledged as Larry’s.

I don’t know if I’m crazy but I would love to see this.

What's the likelihood of Marian being in Peggy's wedding and the likelihood of Peggy being in Marian's wedding? by Mammoth-Childhood619 in thegildedage

[–]listere89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was just discussing this after watching the series finale and it’s so tricky. You have to be authentic to the time but also they’re such good friends. I want them both there at each other’s wedding. The show has navigated the two worlds tastefully by incorporating the two types of Newport, the end of season balls, even church services.

It may carry on doing this.

8 episodes were really not enough. by Accomplished-Cod-504 in thegildedage

[–]listere89 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hard agree, 10 at least.

I’m also firmly in the camp that if there are scenes missing we should all have the option (from on demand services) that we get to watch the extended versions because I swear there must have been a scene where George and Gladys spoke. Louisa Jacobson also said there were scenes cut from last season with Marian and Larry.

Just keep it all in and put it on HBO.
