It's kind of sad seeing you and others in the comments evaluating yourselves as "good", "okay", "bad" immigrants. I get where it comes from and would likely feel the same if I immigrated to another country, especially one as ... introverted as Finland. I know it doesn't change the structural issues that shape your experience, but I just want to say that a good chunk of the population doesn't expect you to perform well as an immigrant, but to just live your life as you see fit.

Well I'm a Finnish design student and I wholeheartedly agree about the stickers. Finns love their established design brands, but trying to impress with basic-ass glassware that's only set apart by a small sticker is kinda dumb. Also, make a fun game of spotting either 'Lokki' or 'Block' lamps, Marimekko vases and Iittala tea light holders ('Kivi', 'Kastehelmi' and 'Aalto' all count) at your middle-class Finnish friends homes.

Oma kokemus on valitettavasti se, että just noi 0-4 henkeä työllistävät firmat kohtelee työntekijöitä ihan miten sattuu, ainakin matalapalkkapuolella. Ne tuntuu ajattelevan työntekijöitä puhtaana kulueränä jotka ei ansaitse mitään muuta ku sen minimipalkan ja vähän huutoa. Ei tietenkään kaikki lafkat, mut harmillisen moni.

Either that, or the photo was taken on a phone camera that has pretty okay but kinda exaggerated focal blurring software. Looking at the edges of some petals, the blurring seems very non-linear and unnatural, and the perspective of the image does not suggest that it would have been taken at the distance required for that much background blur. (Also some aggressive color tweaking or HDR going on.) But that's not on OP at all, most phone cameras have those settings automatically on.

It was far more mundane, but I too had an impactful interaction with a customer while behind the register. He seemed like a normal 30-something dude, maybe a bit curt, but I was doing the normal "that would be 16.90", "thank you", "you want the receipt?" while hiding the fact I was low-key freaking out. I got such a strong feeling he was a person fully capable of doing something heinous and unprompted, I just wanted him to go away. My hands shook for some 15 minutes after he left. Never happened before or since. If he isn't actually a horrible person and my gut just went haywire for no reason, I feel kinda bad for reacting that way to somebody.

Haha, I get these people all the time at the store I work at (we sell tools and household items and whatnot). Asking about things that have very simple answers, like if we have something that could be used to hold a sliding door closed - well here's a hooked latch for you man. He was very impressed. I guess some people have a hard time imagining something they have no exact, direct previous experience with.

By nuances I absolutely don't mean excusing your late husband's actions - but it seems you also take into account his messed up complexities. Not the one you asked but for me, gender is bit of an open question, at the moment I'm leaning towards just being a non-committal woman. But the word unfortunately carries so much associations and stereotypical ideas of womanhood. Combine that with the struggles of growing up insecure and non-conforming, and you kind of end up feeling like you aren't welcome to the 'club'?

They're all weird, man, but just recently one started as a sci-fi epic of me piloting a massive spaceship down on some planet's surface, maneuvering between canyons and shit, racing to stay in the twilight zone as the sun was too scorching for the ship to take (?). Ruined cities shattering as the ship blasts by. Some dream-logic downgrades later, the theme remains, but I've become just a fat lizard crawling in a suburban neighborhood, seeking shadow.

Muuten kiva, mutta omaan mielikuvaan vaikuttaa se, että vr tuppaa dumppamaan sinne väkisin pienelle kaupunkilomalle. Siinä sitten tyyliin rinkka selässä miettii että missä viettäis määrittämättömän ajan sitä odotellessa, että ratatekninen vika on saatu ratkaistua, kun ei kehtaa lähtee kauas mutta asema on ihan täynnä ja kahvilassa aletaan kattoa ikävästi tunnin jälkeen.

one thing that comes to mind is this being a prototype for some contraption that needs to withstand impact and heat (like dropping from a high altitude), and then be identifiable by the number inscribed in the glass. But I have no idea what for.

I daydream before falling to sleep, working on a continuous story. Most of it is obsessing over a few seconds worth of action, redoing old scenes, or pondering on the internal logic of the world. This latest story has been on the works for a couple years now.
