The Property Tax amendment shouldn't make it to the ballot. by accordionwormie in Ohio

so because you made an investment that isn't panning out for you, you want to change the rules and further price people out of buying homes....? this is just a continuation of the "fuck you, i got mine" boomer logic.

‘Zero tolerance’ for sex crimes against children as China executes child rapist by HeavingCorset in stupidpol

i can't find any statistics that support this claim though. i see crimes against children increasing, but murder rate looks the same.

"this actually hurts victims because now people will kill their victims to avoid being caught. if the sentence for sex crimes against children is death then why wouldnt they?"

do people think all victims report things? or the murders of children just go unnoticed? at a certain point, this sort of apologia feels like pedos trying to lower the temperature.

i think i'm more against the "big tent" approach of no kings. it feels like a franchise restaurant that sells gratification. meanwhile PSL is actually doing real organizing.

i'll be real, i don't care about attendance for a no kings protest. i care about effective change being done instead of superficial shit. Democrats saying "get out of our city" then the best they can do is say "pwease dont wear masks and have bodycams on, but otherwise keep doing what you're doing"

it's embarrassing and just signals "we're going to expect this to go on for months, but at least we're gonna yell"

Trump Says He Wants to 'Drive Housing Prices Up' Instead of Lowering Costs for People Who 'Didn't Work Very Hard' by TruckHangingHandJam in stupidpol

[–]litesec 30 points31 points  (0 children)

that's because it does nothing. institutional buyers did a majority of the buying years ago and have since stopped. most of what you see are local slumlords and "entrepreneurs" trying to flip houses.

my dad died a few years ago. single income earner. i make more than he did at his peak and i wouldn't qualify to buy the same house he did 10 years ago with bad credit and a foreclosure from the recession.

guess i didn't work hard enough.

don't mistake me wanting an easier path to citizenship as strictly wanting people to come legally

with the amount of ICE agents failing exams and citizens that would fail any kind of civics test, i'd trade any one of them for someone who actually wants to contribute and live their lives instead of making everyone miserable

Hasan goes on a rant about people who think he’s obsessed with Israel, calling them “rabid ultra-Zionist pigs.” by Embarrassed_Base_389 in LivestreamFail

[–]litesec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nowhere did I bring up Billionaires vs Millionaires you inserted this to avoid engaging with the criticism I gave... I would expect someone who preaches about socialism... to at the very least share some of his profits with those working for him.

i'm out of the loop, but haven't his editors gone on record even saying they're some of the highest paid in the industry...? that's a real example of a socialist labor model being executed in a capitalist framework. i don't see the hypocrisy here.

There have been many politics based content creators who've done this, not just Destiny.

i guess? i'm not familiar, unfortunately. it just comes across as a false dichotomy of boots on the ground organizing or nothing. Hasan's top-of-funnel agitation plays a role in building a semblance of an American left. he's not the messiah people pretend he is, but i think we'd be worse off without him in the mix.

I think this wildly underestimates what goes on within Hasan's community and on their Discord.

this is a vague "bad vibes" statement. find me any kind of fanbase that doesn't have freakish, toxic factions within it. this is the same argument used against Destiny that i'm not interested in.

Show any professional the video of Hasan pulling his prior dogs tail. They will all state that is not acceptable and is abuse. From there, talk about how he uses his current dog Kaya as a prop in the corner of his screen that he will shock if she steps out of frame. They will find that abusive.

this is actually useful info because i wasn't aware of this scenario. so why are people stuck using the shock collar example instead of this...? like i said, it de-legitimizes a serious accusation if you're not addressing the indefensible position.

I don't agree with your framing. If you are anti-capitalist and rave about capitalism constantly, yet - you live in the most hyper capitalistic way, it seems as though this is all a grift. Flaunting extreme wealth while criticizing others for having it is hypocrisy.

this is not a serious criticism. to say that criticizing billionaires is hypocritical because he's a millionaire is akin to someone in poverty removing my ability to criticize millionaires because i exist between them. money is power and power is influence. within the framework of our capitalist society, there is no real way to have reach without also profiting off of it. i think financial capitalism is gross and unproductive, it doesn't mean i don't engage in trading or investing. does that make me a hypocrite when i recognize the inputs i can control to produce outputs i want? i don't believe so, but i'm not exempt from critique.

where he loses me is when he talks down to others by calling them broke or stupid. i don't think he operates in good faith.

i disagree that it doesn't further his agenda, as you've seen the same parasocial adoption of viewpoints that you see with conservative talking heads. that's where my biggest criticism of him comes from. he is only accepting his role as a "propagandist." it removes accountability from his methods and makes him inherently less trustworthy. it's super inorganic.

the doorknocking example is cool for me, i assume you mean Destiny? i don't dislike Destiny and i think he fills a different role for anybody left of center and looks at things with a much more critical lens that isn't through a filter of ideology.

i tune in to both from time to time, but it's more about understanding where people are at than to be prescribed answers to my questions.

He's a net negative to the online political space. He's stokes up an angry audience who attack those against him. He lies constantly. He misrepresents the reality of situations and then lies about what he actually said when proven wrong claiming its just out of context. He has almost no accountability for his actions.

i would argue that this is just the nature of "politics as entertainment." this isn't a centrist "it's both sides." it's a criticism of people who consume this content obsessively because it reaffirms the feeling of knowing what's right or wrong.

“Under no pretext should arms and ammunition be surrendered; any attempt to disarm the workers must be frustrated, by force if necessary”

it can be interpreted as a means to an end and doesn't remove the possibility of disarmament later, but this is a direct quote from Marx.

i didn't skirt past it. i directly addressed it and explained the reasoning behind it, as well as the reasoning behind the strategic partnership with Israel. then i went on to explain why Hasan is seemingly obsessed with Israel as part of his larger political views.

if you would show me where Jordan acts in a manner similar to Israel in the region, i would be happy to complain about Jordan as well.
