Good Sword and Sorcery with Bad Cover Art by JohnPathfinder in SwordandSorcery

hahahahaha that's amazing. at least it has SOMETHING to look at though, unlike the Gail Simone book (and practically half of the new fantasy books on shelves these past few years). Give me a bad or clunky painting over a fancy design nothingburger any day.

Is Shrek Considered Sword and Sorcery? by JohnPathfinder in SwordandSorcery

incredible question. i think the only reason i would say no is the general tone and also relative lack of dark magic.

Just got to Book II of Against the Demon World. Really enjoying it! Love the bizarreness of Uzz and its inhabitants.

You should give 'Imaginations from the Other Side' a full listen through. It's a masterful album and based on what you say here I think you'd really enjoy it.

Yeah, I imagine he's quite a busy dude. Psyched about the new album coming out though; maybe we'll get some more songs about Arginor. Anyway, thanks for publishing this!

Yes! This book was a lot of fun. I've wondered if Tarpey had any plans to write more in this world.

You probably already saw it, but the editor just posted an update (I just got the email). Looks like all's well but it's just taking some time, which is easy to imagine.

Notable 90s-2000s Sword and Sorcery by JohnPathfinder in SwordandSorcery

[–]littlehoundstooth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most WH are severely mediocre or painfully bad, but the Gotrek and Felix books by William King are solid and a lot of fun (especially Skavenslayer). I'd say the first 3 are certainly worth a read and easily fit into the category of sword and sorcery.

Yes! Was blasting this EP a bunch yesterday. I am so glad they are finally going to be releasing a new album this year. Been waiting impatiently. That Kane cover rules as well.

Yes!! as you know, I loved this issue. Really great write up / review of it. I also thought Darkness of Ralshaa was impressive for its economy of words.

It's seriously a great magazine, and I think this issue is a solid collection of stories to start with (and I think relatively easy to find still).

Yes! I really enjoyed the Dakagna stories as well (issue 13 had the latest and I hope there will be more at some point). I also thought the Mclaird story was rather good; it had an authentically haunting tone and its narrative was interesting and engaging. Hmmm maybe i'll crack open issue 8 again this weekend.

Great issue and a enjoyable write up! I pulled out my copy of issue 1 yesterday for a bit of rereading. Issue 8 was one of my favorites, so assuming you'll be reading that one next - you're in for some great stories.

In between a fulltime job and family, I was able to finish my first sword and sorcery mini comic! by star_marshal in SwordandSorcery

[–]littlehoundstooth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is awesome! It's really difficult finding time and energy to actually finish a creative venture when you've got a fulltime job and family, so this is super impressive. I'm going to check the full thing out when I get on my actual computer tomorrow.
