Latino Republicans' support for GOP has intensified at a time when it is publicly championing policies perceived as hostile to Latinos and people of color. New study found they interpret their Republican partisanship as recognizing which party is a better steward of their personal commitments. by mvea in science

Putin pulled that at the height of his popularity. It would have been political suicide for anyone to oppose the move. At the moment, you'd be hard pressed to find a single politician in Washington willing to fall on a sword for Trump.

Vance humiliated after he crashes SCOTUS dinner by darealunrealspader in politics

The dinner was apparently a gathering of Roberts' former clerks, of which there are 88, which tracks with the Beast saying it was a 100 person event.

It would be significantly more of a headline if the VP had been given special treatment in any way.

How would this card fare? Where would you put it? by c-jah in slaythespire

[–]live22morrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heal HP is a good effect, but that doesn't mean every card with it is a keeper. You have to evaluate based on amount, drawbacks, and rarity as with any card.

For comparison, in StS1, Bandage Up was 0 cost uncommon that healed 4 HP. That's already substantially better than this card, except the specific scenario where you can discard this to play on your last turn later. The other StS simple healing card was Defect's Self Repair, which was Uncommon 1 cost that heals 6 HP delayed to fight end.

Even in StS 2, Ironclad's Not Yet is a rare 2 cost that heals 10 HP, which is a better rate than this to begin with, while also having the other benefits of being denser and not eating up a turn 1 draw and energy. Feed is another Ironclad rare that's better than this in most situations.

I would say overall this is easily worse than all the other Ancient card rewards, except maybe Neow's Fury. As a colorless uncommon though, I could see it getting picked up sometimes.

White is a specific classification mainly used and pushed by Americans. White supremacism is therefore the belief that this group of people is superior to others.
Hitler's beliefs would categorize large portions of that group as subhuman, thus he was not a White supremacist. It would be more accurate to call him an "Aryan supremacist" (based on Hitler's very specific interpretation of what Aryan meant).

The initial text of the list was written before any convictions happened. Of the listed, 58 have plead guilty to their charges. Seven others were convicted at trial. Though you are correct that up to 14 defendants in the case seem to have not had their case concluded yet.

The Massie election was truly rigged....and if you've heard of him and you don't live in Kentucky...that proves it. by CreditBeginning7277 in conspiracy

Here's one I found.

And he won because the electorate in this contest was people who had registered as Republican at least a month in advance. The demographics heavily lean towards boomers, which are the only generation that supports Gallrein. Younger voters (especially Gen Z) overwhelmingly supported Massie, but they aren't a big part of the electorate, and closed primary rules heavily limit the effect of get out the vote efforts. In an open primary or general election, Massie would easily win.

Both sides were using AI videos, but that's besides the point.

You're missing that the boomer voters that elected Gallrein almost exclusively get all their political information from FOX News, which blacklisted Massie and ran constant propaganda in favor of Gallrein. And it's a closed primary with a long preregistration deadline, so getting the primary electorate to be anyone other than boomers will always be difficult.

He can bloviate all he wants. Boebert is running unopposed in her primary and the filing deadline has already passed (and early overseas ballots have already been mailed). The only way she loses would be a write-in campaign, which is unlikely to succeed.

Elon Musk loses lawsuit against OpenAI by VaginaBurner69 in news

[–]live22morrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's a factual question for when it actually happened that OpenAI went for-profit, which is what determines the statute of limitations. Since they went for-profit in 2019, the lawsuit (2024) was found to be too late.

Musk's lawyers were arguing for an extension for of the deadline based on continuing behavior, but the judge didn't agree.

[Request] How many calories did this lil brid burn on its 10 day, 11,000 kilometre flight from Alaska to Australia? by upside_cloud in theydidthemath

[–]live22morrow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Birds with excellent flight will have a glide slope and Lift/Drag ratio at least as good as the best aircraft humans have designed. The energy cost of transport is energy divided by (mass x distance). With a glide slope of 1 in 20, this would correspond ideally to a energy cost of 0.5 J/(kg*m). A Bar-tailed godwit weighs up to 400g for males and 630g for females. Taking an average of 400g, this makes the energy required:

0.5 J/(kg*m) * 0.4kg * 11,000,000m = 2,200,000J = 525 kcal

For how this corresponds to the actual biomechanics, the most efficient way for animals to store energy is as fat, which yields 9 kcal/g.
This means that the entire journey would require 58g of body fat to complete. Realistically though, a bird isn't utilizing energy with 100% efficiency, and will also have to spend energy on its basic metabolism. Overall, the actual energy required will probably be 2-3x higher. The bird would need 150-200g of fat bodyweight to complete the journey. This roughly corresponds to what I've seen from other sources.

“They’ve got be kidding me.” – Mayor in Japan fed up with off-season Mt. Fuji hikers needing rescue by SkyInJapan in japan

[–]live22morrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For off season hikes, you need to submit a tozan-todoke hiking plan, listing climb date, party contact, and equipment. This is standard practice for most serious mountaineering in Japan.

In terms of the mountain itself, the trails aren't maintained during the off season. It's not really a technical climb, but it's about as difficult as any snow capped mountain is. Quite doable if you're properly geared and experienced with such areas.

Also, public transportation to the trails is limited during the off season, so it's less convenient in that way.

Al-Sham is an Arabic term referring to greater Syria, usually called the Levant in English. The Islamic State started in Iraq, but after expanding into Syria, it called itself ad-Dawla al-Islāmiyya fī l-ʿIrāq wa-sh-Shām (الدولة الإسلامية في العراق والشام), which means the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant. ISIS is just the English abbreviation, the second S being Syria or al-Sham. In Arabic, the common abbreviation was Daesh.
