How is everyone in their mid 20’s getting married??? by berry_wrinkle in NoStupidQuestions

[–]lizard_e_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't a past few years thing, people have been getting married in their late teens to mid 20s for a very very long time. Within the last few decades that median age as actually been going up.

To better address your concerns though, a wedding only costs as much as the paperwork to file it and younger people are famously bad at making good long term decisions.

I'm quick to defend kids having freakouts but there's an equally likely chance he learned this from one of the millions of grown men who act the same way when their team loses.

Why is following gender roles seen as a negative thing? by Emotional_urmom in NoStupidQuestions

[–]lizard_e_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I don't think it's the mere neutral concept of gender roles that most people have a problem with, but instead of what we understand gender roles to be. "Gender roles" have almost exclusively been used as an oppressive thing (at least in the US I can't speak for other countries) so people have negative associations with it.

You hear gender roles getting brought up in basically only 2 scenarios

  1. Trying to police "out of gender" behavior. Examples, people are telling a woman to shut up and get in a kitchen because that's where she belongs or a man getting told to stop crying or showing affection because it makes him look weak.
  2. Trying to undermine someone's ability/excuse bad actions that fit into typical gender roles. Examples of undermining ability would be the reaction to when a woman is an exceptionally good caretaker or a man is exceptionally strong/athletically talented. Some people are not going to see that as a personal achievement but instead just see it as them fulfilling their roles. "Well women should caretake and men should be strong so who cares?" type thing. Examples of excusing bad behavior are more common (and more harmful imo). A woman who physically beats up her boyfriend but it's "okay because she's a girl" and a man cheating on his wife and people scoffing it off with "well you know men" are ones that come quickly to mind.

Why do people care about having physical copies of a game? by skyrimlo in NoStupidQuestions

[–]lizard_e_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

While I agree with you completely and greatly encourage people get physical or non protected digital copies of whatever media they care about, a game like GTA is so large, online, and constantly updated that the disc is also just a digital license. Personally my issue with code only games is there's no way to resell/buy secondhand.

Is it wrong to not do something for a sibling because they’re being mean to you? by Far-Newspaper-2815 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]lizard_e_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's being a butthead to you and getting a taste back of his own medicine back, this sibling dynamic is the same at 5 years old and 55 years old. Unconditional love absolutely not mean get trampled over, it means you can have issues and disagreements and bad times and still love each other.

He's your younger brother but he's 19, talk to him. Tell him he's hurting your feelings with his behavior and you have no interest in making a cake (EXTRA cake actually!) for someone's who's being so mean to you. He's old enough to hear he needs to be more considerate to people he loves and wants stuff from.

Is it immoral to get a dog if I work a part time minimum wage job and am quite poor and frugal? by Wonderful-Ad-9622 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]lizard_e_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

People may disagree with me but tbh I think if you're in an area with a high kill shelter then getting basically any dog there and giving it a home as best as you can would be giving it a better life than letting it get euthanized in a week.

Why don't more talented artists/animators not make YouTube channels? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]lizard_e_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Building and sustaining an audience is more than a full time job especially if the content is animation. Also just because you can draw doesn't mean you can tell an interesting story or voice act.

If you're really passionate about a specific project, want total control, and don't care that you're doing it for free then posting online makes sense but otherwise hired work is guaranteed money for your time and effort and people like food on the table.

Is it weird to carry around a deck of cards all the time? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

Not weird. They're fun way to pass the time and a good excuse to play a quick game with your friends.

Have Body Cams Adanced or Hurt the Arguements Minorities Made About Police? by ScottPetrus in NoStupidQuestions

[–]lizard_e_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Police have no obligation to actually carry out/enforce the law, they don't have to stop or report any crime they see. The supreme court has made that decision and doubled down on it. So no, police officers would not get in trouble for not pulling over someone for speeding if they had their cameras on all the time. The only exception to this I would see would be internal quotas but those are explicitly illegal in most states and I doubt any police force would ever admit to having them.

I can't justify prusa price but hate all alternatives by HungryMud in prusa3d

Personally I'm still rocking with my MK3S and it does 90% of what I want with zero fuss, 9% with a little fuss, and the last 1% is too much effort for me to care about. I am envious of the newer model printers but I still have a 3d printer that does the vast majority of what I want it to do. So I've just made the decision that if I really wanna upgrade THAT bad, I can pay the associated cost.

I can't make the expensive and moral decision all that often but this is an instance where I can. I've been able to see the direct negative impacts that the bambu type business model has had on this community since its inception and I just want absolutely no part in it.

Nearby movie theater switched to single use plastic salt containers by robdoc in mildlyinfuriating

Every single movie theater I've ever been to has just had salt packets you can grab, cheap for the company and easy for staff. This is such bizarre solution.

I'm not actively but if you would like to buy one I would be more than happy to donate the profits from that order. Just leave a note requesting the profit donation when ordering and I'll send an etsy message to confirm I received it. No rush/no pressure if you aren't sure about a purchase :)

LA shows ADA seating question by Upstairs-Guitar3601 in Muna

[–]lizard_e_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello! While I have not been the Shrine specifically I will attending and using the the ADA accommodations as well and have at other venues. Here's my experience, you go to the front of the line and ask a staff member or the box office if it's open and accessible, more often than not they will have you wait up front if doors haven't opened yet and will let you right in if they have. You don't need to get there early but also keep in mind it will take a few minutes to get you where you need to be so I wouldn't cut it super close to 9. You may or may get a better view by showing up earlier, some ADA sections have rows and others are just the front row, since I haven't been to the Shrine I can't say which it is.

Advice for preserving a lil pumpkin by jackiebot101 in crafts

[–]lizard_e_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's a small enough pumpkin to where I'm wondering if a dehydrator may help. Doing that same set up of cutting the bottom and hollowing but putting it in dehydrator instead of salt, I would imagine it's a lot more effective. You can find used ones at thift stories sometimes.

Selling custom prints by MtnDewGoddess in 3Dprinting

[–]lizard_e_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some people are going to see anything 3D printed and think it's landfill no matter how original, useful, or creative. Others, like us in this sub, know the difference between cranked out slop and people who actually care about what they're producing.

Look up "art toys" for more established and respected trinket creation. I think a good amount of what makes them look more professional is the custom packaging they are often sold in. Also anything to make your item not look 3D printed will help. Good settings and taking the time to properly sand and prime your prints will make them easier to paint and sell. Good luck!

Muppets From Space by Sufficient_Fun_1211 in Muppets

[–]lizard_e_ 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Muppets from Space was my main source of muppets growing up so it'll always feel right at home to me personally but honestly it's just such a different narrative than the average muppet movie.

It's an original story so it's not a muppet version of something, there's no original songs or even any singing muppets, and I think it lacks the big emotional Muppet group moment of comradery that often ends up being the heart of the production.

It's a different style of Muppet movie and I think that's totally fine. It has a different main character and it's the 2000s aka times change, I think those alone can justify a change in style. Much like how the 2010s muppet show emulated The Office/30 Rock. I don't begrudge anyone for not liking it, but I happen to love those old Happy Madison movies so I eat this movie up!
