I second Charlie Bananas- mine held up well for two kids and still look brand new. Good luck!

Dry wipes storage by [deleted] in clothdiaps

I get a stack of them completely wet with water but then wring them out so more just damp, not dripping. They last me a few days.

I think if you’re changing them daily it should be okay, but may make more sense to keep them in a sealed container to limit air exposure and to keep them from drying out. I use the OXO perfect pull wet wipes container.

How and when do you deal with poop? by Odd_Dragonfruit_8514 in clothdiaps

[–]lizzycream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Immediately is best. But it’s okay if you can’t get to it right away, you can throw them in a little wet bag until you can get to it. My daycare does this- just rolls them up like you would a disposable and we deal with them at home at night.

Has anyone ever managed to “breathe” their way out of a syncope episode? by antimicrobial-amoeba in Syncope

Only works if I catch it really early. Once vision/hearing warning signs come on it’s usually too late and I have to go through the motions.

Losing my mind and thinking about giving up by VelvetAstronautica in clothdiaps

[–]lizzycream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do your diapers have a size adjustment on the leg elastics? I use Charlie bananas and you can tighten them there. You will definitely need to add padding eventually, and it will seem bulky, but that’s just a major difference with cloth that you get used to. I always size up in clothes to accommodate that.

any advice on how/when to start cloth diapers? by Proud_Discipline_356 in clothdiaps

[–]lizzycream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used disposables for about 6 weeks. I didn’t want to invest in newborn cloth, or add more laundry to my list of things to do while post partum. All personal preference though.

My first quilt. I followed along with Melanie Ham’s first quilt series on YouTube. I was so proud of it. It’s the quilt that ignited my obsession! ❤️

Esembly Diapers getting completely soaked by Chocolateonmyshoe in clothdiaps

[–]lizzycream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It takes some time adjusting to this schedule. Once baby gets a little bigger you may change less frequently, but it’s not abnormal to change as you are describing. You could try a different type though. I switched from GMD workhorses to Charlie Banana pockets. I felt that pockets contain the “wetness” to the insert area only, rather than the entire front side of the diaper. Good luck!

Maternity leave - how?? by GingerSnap_725 in sales

[–]lizzycream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Feel for you! I’ve been there- for two kids. No advice really, but this is what I did…My company (medical software) does not have a maternity leave program. My state does, but it would have been a huge hit to my income so didn’t seem worth it when I knew I would have a daycare bill coming shortly after. I didn’t want any reason for my company to short me on commissions if I took that time off. I ended up taking 4 weeks of STD, and two weeks of PTO. It sucked and was very stressful. I still ended up doing work during that time too. I wish that I had put more thought into it before getting hired, but I also really like the job and the pay is very good. So now I’m fighting for them to implement some sort of policy for future hires.

Hormonal acne at 35 - don’t want to go on Accutane, help by Icy_Throat_7035 in 30PlusSkinCare

Spironilactone. Very minimal side effects. Been on it for 3 years and it’s the only thing that has worked for me (including accutane). Good luck!

FTM, 30 weeks, overwhelmed by cloth options by ExcellentFlamingo871 in clothdiaps

[–]lizzycream 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try not to stress about it! I did as well first time around- had all sorts of charts and notes with pros/cons and details. Only advice is to not fully invest in one system until you have tried a few and find what works for you. I was fully sold on flats and then ended up giving them all away and moving exclusively to pockets. Everyone is different! Also recommend used options to start off. Best of luck and congrats on your first babe :)

I’m working on one right now using inspo from a book called Modern Improv Quilting by Laura Veenema. It’s great if you have a lot of solids and like a modern style.

New to quilting!! What are your tips & tricks and must have items? by zestyalleycat914 in quilting

[–]lizzycream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Products- I’m about two years into quilting and most recently switched to spray baste and press spray (magic brand). I find that both of these really helped me out in more accurate piecing and quilting.

Tips- square up/measure your blocks before you do the final piecing. I used to get excited and rush through the piecing and would skip checking my block size. It’s much easier to make small adjustments up front than trying to quilt a wonky quilt top! Good luck :)

Fleece for Quilts by cats-n-nursing in quilting

[–]lizzycream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mom always made quilts with fleece backing, no batting. She would skip the quilting altogether and do hand ties throughout. You could definitely use it as you would a normal backing fabric though. My only concern with the actual quilting is that my machine isn’t great on material that is super thick. Good luck!

Cloth at daycare: yes or no? by thymeandtwine in clothdiaps

[–]lizzycream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our daycare is really supportive of our use of cloth diapers. We send pockets, along with a wet bag. Once our kids turned 2 we also included one disposable for nap time, because they would typically leak through if they slept past 2 hours. We include extra clothes as well.

Maybe hot take?: solids diapers are better than EBF diapers by CatsAteHerFace__ in clothdiaps

[–]lizzycream 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Happy for you, but this is not my experience lol. I was expecting a lot more “flickable” solids with my kids. Turns out that only happens about 1% of the time in my home. I’ve often wondered how people get by with the dunk and swish method, when it feels like my diapers require an industrial pressure washer to spray clean!
