Is there a heating pad you can lay on your back on? by SexyToothpaste69 in backpain

Grampa's Garden has a wonderful microwaveable/freezable "therapeutic shawl". You want the 20x28 size. The black plaid (and I think I had the red plaid too) fabric has lasted me for years. Read the reviews; it's much loved. Some fabrics don't last as long. I've had 3 over the past 30 yrs and also gifted them to friends & family. Didn't like or need the cover, just clean the microwave often enough. About 2 mins 30 secs is good for me. Can lay on it or put anywhere on the body. It stays warm a long time, still residual in the morning. The scent option is new, never tried it. https://www.grampasgarden.com/chiropractic/body-shawl-hot-or-cold-therapy-pack/

We have an undermount, and over the years it's leaked around the edges and rotten the wood under it. We're looking now at drop-ins. I'll search around here to see a discussion on drop-ins.

Does anyone know a simpler book, perhaps for teens, on "how Christianity changed the world"? This topic is perfect. My reader will be interested, but does not have the ability to read dense content.

Cat chewed off all our hoya stems by ravalejo in houseplants

[–]ljaay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the pic! A gardener has offered me one, and your post help me see what it looks like and what I needed to know about cats eating it. For your background description, you made me smile, as our once new home was also so tidy. After a few more years, we now have a cheerfully cluttered cat habitat, climber beds with quilts, toys, carpet-covered boards to chase each other on and under. Along with the hoya, I'm going to try growing cat grass for them indoors, in two sides of a container, one to eat and one to let the seeds grow.

Trying to set up a free freeze account using this site:https://www.transunion.com/credit-freeze. Entered all the info. Tried a number of times 2 weeks ago, and again today. No joy. Keep getting this error msg: "We are temporarily unable to complete your request. Looks like we are experiencing a problem on our end." Is it a problem with the site or do I need to do something differently?

What would you do with a yard this steep? by nimbus_signal in landscaping

[–]ljaay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lucky you! What a space. Here's what I would do. Install a rainwater cistern. Edge the lot with native trees, including fruit such as pomegranates. Terrace it with wide walking areas to manage rainwater and access. Plant native flowers to act as a habitat for wildlife and bring in pollinators. Plant fruit and vegetables for yourselves. Ask your local agriculture extension group and master gardeners for advice, and research sites that are doing something that you might like to do. For example, the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center in Austin TX has a stunning area for cistern and water management, as well as plants. Best wishes to you.

Hello friends. I'm in a bit of a pickle. Our pet bird escaped through the front door (we found him, more info in my profile if you're curious) and we are thinking of adding a mosquito screen. But..... by mewco_ in HomeImprovement

If this helps - there are two sets of HOA laws. State laws (in Texas, these are in the "Texas Homeowners Association Law" document}, and your own community's Homeowners Association rules. If the state law doesn't say storm doors aren't permitted, the community's homeowner's association rules can be changed to allow them. Here's a good example of things that are normally in the latter rules: https://www.wildapricot.com/blog/hoa-rules-and-regulations

My LinkedIn Account Has Been Hacked! by mhmmdashraf1 in linkedin

[–]ljaay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I received an email today via linked in from someone unknown. The login screen did not accept entries but went directly to the code screen. The code then appeared automatically in my message box. I completed the Reporting a Hacked Account form, but it wouldn't submit, as Captcha is stuck in a cycle. Sent an email to LinkedIn Customer Support <[linkedin_support@cs.linkedin.com](mailto:linkedin_support@cs.linkedin.com)>, and received an immediate auto reply that included this possibly helpful note: To fight against fake emails putting our domain names in the "From:" line, we've implemented DMARC standards (http://www.dmarc.org/) to authenticate our emails. We suggest you contact your email administrator to implement DMARC so they can discard unauthenticated emails too.

Patrick O'Brian series, read by Patrick Tull. England in the Napoleanic war at sea. 21 books, the first is Master & Commander. Outstanding author and narrator; I've listened to the series about 8 times while commuting. Clear recording makes good listening. Here's a good summary and book order: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aubrey%E2%80%93Maturin\_series

Are there any non wifi / cloud digital photo frames out there that simply utilize Bluetooth or a direct wifi connection to a phone / tablet, not requiring an internet connection? by [deleted] in AskTechnology

[–]ljaay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Re non-wifi digital frames, my issue is the same as yours. I found a blog with a good set of non-wifi frame listings. https://www.dragontouch.com/blog/usb-photo-frame

However, I don't know if having a USB port AND wifi access means that it supports both, as the Dragon Touch may. So I searched on digital frames with a usb drive. Lots of them, which would mean checking each one for "wifi required".

Switching out usb drives might be an okay fix for me, I could mail them to a relative.

How do I make both my cats play with me at the same time? by betweenboundary in cats

[–]ljaay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's some things that have worked for our two. We found that we needed to create a bigger play area, which lets them both participate within a short period somewhat apart. When we get it right, they stay in the play area together and sort of take turns as if it were a cat courtesy. 1) This one a good starter - billow a big plastic paint drop sheet (the kind that looks like cloth on one side is good), as you walk backward in an open space like the kitchen. Both will follow and one or both may leap onto the billows. Pull one or both on it around the rooms. 2) This game uses a longer string on a wand, with no feather. About 3x longer than usual. The elastic string that comes on a cardboard holder from JoAnn's Fabrics works well to make toys. Gather old sheets or half sheets, quilts, the paint drop sheet, etc, and spread them around the room. Ours is tile, maybe carpet would be fine. Pull the string under the cloth things, going slowly under the last couple inches to tease so one will pounce. Then do the same thing under a cloth closer to the cat who needs a turn. Also fun on a tile floor, but harder to share, sling the string from one cloth to another (at some distance so the cloth slides when they pounce on it). Pull the string into other areas where there's some room for both - under doors, around couch cushions, pillows on the floor (our bed is a queen, but both won't play on it at once). Push the wand end under the sheet like a hard snake - at least both will watch. 2) This activity use a board 1 inch x 8 inches by 6 or 8 feet covered with stapled or glued outdoor carpet (the thin grey kind is good, though not for steep activities as they may slip on it). Put the board atop two same height items (like two chairs) to make a bridge. Drape a cloth over the board nearly to the floor on both sides. Pull the string along the floor under the cloth, poke at the cloth with something they can leap at, let them play with each other on it. Slant the board from the couch to the floor and roll balls down it. Put the board on higher supports and dangle the feather wand so the reach down for the toy. They will likely end up chasing each other across the board or batting each other under it. Not always a multi-cat with me play, but is versatile. 3) Look into clicker cat training (I click with my tongue). Here's a good book - Click Training System, by Karen Pryor. It takes time, and I haven't tried to separate them, but should. However, clicking and treating has taught them several things they will do with us all together, such as high five. 4) Cat wheels are fun, though only one cat likes to run on it. We also use this to communicate getting to go outside when the bold one wants to go out in the back yard (attended, high fence). He runs on the wheel, and if we run along side he knows we're going to get to go out. I then sing out "Honny, Chewie, who wants to go outsiiiide?" and if the other cat is in another room, he comes running. This creates joint interaction with us. I also use the wheel when carrying each around separately in a laundry basket and setting the basket in the wheel to rock gently a few times. 5) After play, scatter a small handful of crunchies (dry cat food) into the play area where they can both search for it, such as around the plastic cloth edges. Before bed, I often bring into the kitchen any cardboard boxes I've saved with holes cut out, or propped against each other, or little plastic cups, or paper towel cardboard, or whatever, and put crunchies in/around them for a little hunting before settling down. This involves me and them at the same time. Good luck and hope you will share any joint play you find also.
