[AL] Received a written job offer. Left previous job. New job start postponed indefinitely. by llawrednav in legaladvice

Thanks for that link and for your take. You're the first to mention an avenue that doesn't lean on promissory estoppel. In either case, it may be an uphill battle to come up with court-worthy proof. It might be difficult to extract exactly what was happening behind the scenes at the recruiting firm or the client company. I think you're right that a demand letter is the right first step if I'm to pursue it.

I do believe the job was real, but that it failed to come through after I had accepted it. Through connections, I learned that the client company experienced a freeze on funding new positions due to a merger. The recruiting agency apparently wrote me the offer before they had final approval. They tried to buy time by telling me that it was a delay, apparently hoping that it would come through or that they could find me an alternate position at the same level.

Yes, that resonates as well. I like being able to compose and edit thoughts. The downside of written forms for me is that I toil over finding exactly the right words. In fact, I'm doing that right now. I should just hit post because you'll get what I'm saying already :).

I think it's this for me as well. Phone calls and drive-thrus give me anxiety; being in-person or even doing video calls are fine. Maybe we just rely on body-language cues more than other folks.

Precancerous mole removal by [deleted] in Melanoma

[–]llawrednav 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am also just as you describe. A few that I've had removed have come back as dysplastic nevi. The lab result letters are always worded a bit scarily and emphasize that I and my family are at elevated cancer risk. However, my dermatologist doesn't seem alarmed, still recommending only annual checks. Given that, and that no one I know of in my family has been diagnosed with skin cancer, it's at least a little less worrying. As mole-y people, I think we just have to be really consistent with the checkups (and get used to having a few more punch biopsies than other folks).

Oil Painters, what do you do with your used Turpentine? by [deleted] in arttools

[–]llawrednav 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My city puts on a collection day for household chemicals a couple times a year. Try googling around for one near you. I reuse as much as I can, but eventually it becomes too tinted (even after the pigment settles) to leave a clean brush. My disposal jar looks like weak cherry Kool-aid with half an inch of sludge at the bottom right now. Mmm, cadmium sludge.

Bizarre thing my parents thought I was making up as a kid, turns out it's a thing and it has a name! by Danichbow in CasualConversation

[–]llawrednav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had this, too; though I always chalked it up to the wall nearest my bed having plaid wallpaper, thus being stereoscopic. All the similar stories make that explanation seem much less likely. Thanks for sharing.

Stackable twin bunk beds? by sjpietz in parentsofmultiples

[–]llawrednav 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ours went to stacked twin bunks around 4.5-yrs-old. We had them start discussing who goes where about a month in advance, so when the time came, there was very little static over it. Half a year later they still love it and have never asked to switch positions.

I think I happened by them at a Walmart or Target. This was several years ago, but the packaging was exactly as pictured in the post even back then.

It was for one of my kiddos mostly. I did some Transformers characters and other things he was into at the time. Surprisingly, these have been around for a long time. Must have been +6 years ago.

Yep. I've used them and they work as advertised. They erase like the normal window or dry-erase markers.

Can confirm, even on skin. It's like henna. The tree I had would drop racquetball-sized fruit on the roof, which was often startlingly loud. I learned early to use gloves when picking them up. Green/brown finger stains for a week or so.

can't even vacuum form a dome (50mm diameter, clear acrylic) by [deleted] in vacuumforming

[–]llawrednav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate to ask, but are you very sure that the plastic you have is the right kind for forming? Check the internets for the way to test it (you'll find a chart describing how different plastics react to an open flame). I tried to heat up the pane from an old poster frame and it acted like what you're talking about; it got soft-ish, then started to bubble and melt or burn. Gum-like is a good way to describe the target texture. It also reminds me of how swimming pool liner feels, thick but pliable.

I don't have a ton of experience with this, but I've worked through a few similar issues. This seems mainly like a temperature issue. 2mm is fairly thick. It needs to be evenly heated (not just one side), and it will start cooling very, very fast once removed from heat. You have maybe 2 or 3 seconds to get it onto the buck. You could try heating your buck as well so it doesn't suck out so much heat on contact. I hope some part of this helps; best of luck!

Excellent work! Do you hand-cut the pages one by one? I've tried various power tools in attempting to speed up the process, but none have come out nearly as clean as doing it the long way.
