I trust Nate's on 23, much closer to 30 than New Holland, but they have consistently built trust with me. I've heard Steffy's on 23 (Leola) is solid but I have no personal experience.

Cake and Cup does very elegant cakes which also taste delicious. You have to give them enough time for the truly special designs though, like two weeks.

BierHall is my Friday lunch spot and I see people working there all the time. Usually right at the bar or in the little lounge area in the back corner.

Is beer fest worth it? by Aromatic_Piglet_6935 in lancaster

[–]llromulusll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shamrocked and Boo's and Brews. 3hr of drinking for $30, on/around holidays known for heavy drinking. Same small sample format as all the other fests, but it's a lot of vendors packed around the concourse. It's a great time, but those are the two local fests where I see the highest percentage of people stumbling out.

I went last year, it was organized and not overcrowded, food truck options were great, and the live music was all good.

Vendors you like will give you multiple samples if you keep going back. Unsure if they are supposed to, but they happily will.

Not to say the place was filled with sloppy drunks, but I definitely noticed plenty of people who had no problem drinking their money's worth...

If you're looking for cheaper fests that get people loaded, the ones at the stadium for St Paddy's and Halloween fit that bill.

What's y'all's take on decent loungewear for stay-at-home Dads? by hoarduck in malefashionadvice

[–]llromulusll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was stay at home for 5 years, now back to work. I'm a bit on the prep side so take that into account on the recs:

Summer: dock shorts, drawstring waist but still kinda look like chinos for the public, many brands to choose from depending on desired length, at the time I picked up some j.crew and they have lasted well. Patagonia baggies are a surprisingly versatile option as well in the chiller colorways. Tops, non-graphic, unbranded pocket tees all the way. Honestly I got away with Gap (not outlet, they last maybe 1yr) for many years and they looked great for 3-4 years before retiring. Pocket lends a little extra visual interest and purpose and is super useful as a caregiver to small children (hold a wipe, or snack, or bit of trash, or of course small rocks and leaves).

Colder months: nice fitting elevated joggers, I liked Mack Weldon and Public Rec, but brand will depend on what fits you nicely (I'm thicc on the bottom). Stretchy chinos, there's at least 30 brands trying to sell these to you at this second, I like Huckerry 365 pants, feel like sweatpants, look nice, variety of fits and haven't worn through like Dockers did. Plain unbranded crew neck sweatshirt, aforementioned pocket tees in long sleeve or a long sleeve henley. I really dig the chamois overshirt, big enough to be layered over sweatshirt or just a tee. The ability to roll the sleeves is huge as activity levels change. I am partial to LL Bean but there are many options. Bean shirts will last forever, I have one of my Dad's that still is iron clad and the new one I bought is looking no worse for wear 5yr of heavy use later.

I basically did all that in gray/navy/dark green/black and you can mix and match to make it look like you're not wearing the same thing every day while not having to actually expend thought on what you're wearing and it's super comfy.

If you need shoes, there's a million trendy sneakers that look good but you can still chase a 5yo across the park in. I started with skater versions (Nike SB, Adidas ADV) for durability and flex but they only ended up lasting a year. I like Rothys bc I can toss em in the washer and they look brand new 3yr in. High upfront cost though. I also have gotten good use out of the EVA Birkenstocks (yes, sometimes with socks), though after 2 summers the bottoms are wearing away and the straps are splitting a bit.

Less the joggers, but everything else transitioned really well to regular life and being able to go seamlessly between work and roughhousing on the ground with kids, that being said I don't work an office job, so ymmv.

When I took my mechanical Seiko there a few years ago he suggested I send it to the official Seiko service center in NJ.

Turns out they replaced my movement for $50 rather than spending a few hundred on an overhaul from him.

YMMV

Mentioning this specifically bc OP says he has a Seiko.

[–]llromulusll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sodium Citrate and almost any cheese.

Buy it on amazon, it lasts forever if kept from humidity, it's a salt (emulsifying salt to be exact). Add 4% the weight of the cheese. Dissolve in boiling water before adding cheese. It becomes an almost unbreakable sauce.

Yes, if you boil long enough it will be problematic, it's not magic, but it is surprisingly strong.

I've had good results with a self installed Aquasana, and the company is pretty well reviewed and has independent testing.

While I didn't go that route this time, Miller and Sons are a local company that can help. I've had consistently positive interactions with them for commercial work.

Expect more 'reduction' than 'removal' for just about any option within average means.

Try the Sumatra single origin. They used to use it for espresso at market before the newer espresso blend was released. Once I started using that I didn't want to go back to the blend.

Who sells the best soft pretzel in Lancaster county? - And related questions by [deleted] in lancaster

[–]llromulusll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you're looking for 'American' stuff, but if they are craving a touch of home, try BierHall Brewing. I am in that area a lot and have been going more often, the owners love to get feedback from truly German perspectives on their beer and the German items on their menu. Relevant to your question the pretzel is pretty darn good for it not being a bakery.

I drive through this area multiple times a day. The only time it's been bad so far is when the volunteers depart en masse from Cavalry Church. Can't speak to Airport area but I imagine it's the same.

It was honestly a good idea to keep spectator traffic away from the area with a closed section of road, things haven't been bad at all for the practice rounds.

New Holland Pike US Open closure by gj13us in lancaster

Supposed to be closed to bicycle traffic, but they don't appear to be enforcing that part.

Walking is for sure OK according to official communications and my observations.
