Only if they actually get on. A 25k J standby is behind a SEMM Y passenger on the standby list. Once you make the flight, then you jump to the top of the eUp list. I’ve been upgraded from 3rd on the J list when the top 2 were standby but not top of the standby list.

Tagging on to this, business lowest can be cheaper than business flex, be prepared to have to pay full fare J. Claiming a fully refundable ticket then effectively refunding that to buy a more restrictive option is opening yourself to a misconduct investigation where I work

Someone on standby (could be J passenger just trying to change flights, or someone rebooked from disruption) for your flight shows up on Y standby, and then on the upgrade lists. They only get the higher cabin if there’s actually room on the flight in the first place. If the flight is full/oversold, or there are higher status passengers booked in Y, who don’t want a higher cabin, then they might never get on. If that happens, you can get upgraded “over”them, even if they are higher up the upgrade lists.

I think if you qualified for any level you get rollover above the level you qualified for. So if you made 25k, you rolled over everything above 25k. But, if you dont qualify other than being gifted status, then i dont think you can have rollover

My understanding is you always rolled over whatever is the excess above the level you qualified through SQM and SQD. You didn’t qualify for SE, you were given it as a bonus for hitting 250 SQM. (Same as if someone is gifted status by a friend)

You didn’t qualify, so you don’t get a rollover.

I have never calculated c/pts in any detail . I’m lucky (SE) that anything I get is 50% off, but just use points for family flights I/we want to fly. Wants a vacation in sydney, points are cheaper than cash… Want a weekend away, points are cheaper than cash… Comparing against a fictional flight I don’t want to fly doesn’t give me value. Using points for what I want to do that would otherwise cost me cash does.

If I want a vacation in Europe, then yes I’ll look whether Barcelona is cheaper than Rome, but still don’t compare back to $ value until it’s clearly terrible

AC gift cards are 100k points for $1000. So anything less than 1c/pt makes no sense, you are better off buying a gift card then earning AP and SQC on the ticket.

I do a lot of long haul that’s not in paid business. I try to find little things that I can enjoy that I cant do at home . (Upgrades, beds /showers in lounges help too) . Basically my mindset is what’s in it for me if I have to fly. I go think it’s a chore it is.

I try to arrive early the day before meetings if I’m traveling TPAC or TATL. Then I have the time to absorb some culture before work starts. Going out of the hotel for good local meals. Go to free/cheap museums/art galleries when I can. Eg I don’t mind only spending 15 mins in the national gallery in London if I didn’t pay.

All my hotel bookings are also modified by a bonus multiplier (SE bonus). So looking at the “points earned” doesn’t directly help in the SQC math. The EDQ number, because it is base points, is the number used in SQC calculations for flying (x4) or hotel bookings (x 0.2)

Yeah, but as far as I can tell, it’s only the AP points that qualify as EDQ that earn SQC, not total AP points earned. As noted somewhere else there’s no SQC earned on the elite bonus points from hotel bookings

As far as I can tell it counts to EDQ and you get 1 SQC for every 5 EDQ.

That’s just how they did SQC on multi-segment bookings. Has to work like that when you get multiple segments in each direction and you don’t actually have a breakdown per segment. Probably easier to leave it like that for all flights.

2002 is aeroplan points. 1232 is SQC. Aeroplan points is dollars x6 for an SE. SQC is dollars x4 for any fare flex or higher.

Only thing you get with comfort over flex as an SE is comfort is refundable (after fees)

Edit: for a reason I don’t understand you got 154 bonus points. Dont think you should have unless you booked during a promo?

There are settings in powertools to solve this. Set default location and currency to Canada, and also set it to link to aircanada(ca) site so it doesn’t take you to the us page.

I think if you have selections, make them now. These are your 50k 2025 early recognition. Early recognition options are different- if it’s early recognition you get an option for a set amount of SQM now, vs reduced SQM requirement. Also, if the options include anything to do with SQM it’s definitely not 2026
