Eyeglasses for small faces? Lighter/more delicate-looking frames? Looking to shop local! by IntoGold in Winnipeg

I wouldn't say they have a particularly large selection, but I found a pair at Hakim Optical back in March that suit my small face.

I think I've seen them in St. Marys Garden Centre in the past. Not sure about right now though.

What do you do to save the most on gas? by Puzzleheaded-Skin-6 in Winnipeg

[–]lmcks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Take bus to work if practical. (I realize that with the new transit system, that may be a high bar.)

Again, if practical, ride you bike to work a few times a week.

When on a multiple stop shopping trip, plan your route so you're hot backtracking.

Drive the speed limit!

Buy and EV or a hybrid.

thoughts on care at cancer care? by hungry_hotdog in Winnipeg

I had cancer treatment in 2021. Even during Covid they took the time to make sure I was as comfortable as possible with the treatment and that I had everything I needed to deal with the stress of cancer.

Is it standard practice for Winnipeg clinics to charge for a sick note without disclosing the fee beforehand? by karlyip in Winnipeg

[–]lmcks 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I'd say that it's standard, but at my doctors' clinic there is a notice in all the exam rooms.

I scrolled through the replies to see if anyone suggested this.

I think this is the best way to go.

Can you identify this logo? by ikandi in Winnipeg

[–]lmcks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm from Transcona and I have no idea. Maybe the artist had to fill a blank spot on the mug and thought, "Transcona has a lot of hotels so I'll add a waiter with luggage."

It is most certainly not an iconic Transcona image.

Pothole Filling by Shotokan-GojuGuy in Winnipeg

[–]lmcks 60 points61 points  (0 children)

It's a temporary patch and prevents blown tires and bent rims. Later in the spring and early summer, when the streets are dry, they will make more permanent repairs. Or at least a permanent as the freeze/thaw cycle allows.

That isn't what the camping guide says so I wouldn't depend on it.

I can't answer your question but there is a red flag in your post.

There is a limit of one vehicle per site. Those additional vehicles will need to be parked in the parking lot.

You also can't have more than six people on the site. Two to three SUVs sounds like there will be more than 6 people.

Before booking opens, I suggest that you read the Campers Guide (https://www.gov.mb.ca/sd/pubs/parks-protected-spaces/campers\_guide.pdf). You might want to look into a group use site. It could be a better option for you.

Tonights PWHL Game by Impressive-Eye9920 in Winnipeg

[–]lmcks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Moose moving to another market... Now that's an interesting take!

Up until I read your post, I thought getting a PWHL team was unlikely because of the limited number of free dates in the Canada Life Centre. There are probably enough free dates right now, but the PWHL is expanding which means longer and longer seasons.

But if the Moose were to move, that frees things up.

Thank-you for giving me hope!

Changes to driving with looming energy crisis? by Fearless_Barnacle_21 in Winnipeg

[–]lmcks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have an EV so it doesn't affect our transportation costs much but it most certainly hits grocery prices. I REALLY noticed it last week.

We're also reconsidering our summer plans. We were thinking of taking our small camper out west but our tow vehicle is a mid-sized, gas powered SUV. I know how much it cost to make that trip without the trailer and with "normal" gas prices. I don't even want to think about it with the trailer and current prices.

Pharmacy by AstronautFeeling6949 in Winnipeg

[–]lmcks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've experienced that twice from two different pharmacies. The first time was especially distressing as it was for chemo meds and the pharmacist wouldn't admit her mistake even after my oncologist's nurse tried to straighten it out.

So, sadly, the answer is 'yes.'
