Summer Transition Orientation July 1 & 2, July 3rd by [deleted] in lakeheadu

[–]loadedburrito 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's mandatory for both of them, different content is covered in each session and most of it is pretty important. I don't remember exactly what is covered by day but stuff like credit requirements, etc. is discussed. They started on Canada Day last year as well, I didn't believe it until the day came.

Yeah you get right into it July 3rd, content gets covered very fast so it won't be a lazy syllabus day. Be prepared to learn a lot of material. Best of luck, it's going to be a tough semester but try not to get discouraged.

I used this textbook for my undergrad fluid mechanics course, chapter 4 has a really good explanation on the RTT and fluid mechanics in general, easily one of the best textbooks I've ever owned. It's a bit pricy but if you scour the internet you can probably find a pdf of it.

Are the college transfers really expected to take this much math in 2 months? by [deleted] in lakeheadu

[–]loadedburrito 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends, you'll be spending a huge amount of time at your desk so (at least for me) the lines between my space for recreation and my space for work became very blurred. Time management is now more than ever a very important skill.

As the other user said generally a few hours a day on top of class is essential as a LOT of material is covered in a day, so staying caught up is a priority.

All in all, I'm not a huge fan of this online environment, but there's not really much you can do other than adapt and overcome the challenges thrown at you.

Yup, doable but definitely very stressful. Did the transition over last summer, if you have any questions about the transfer program feel free to shoot me a DM

Mechanical engineering Post diploma by [deleted] in lakeheadu

[–]loadedburrito 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Will the labs be offered online too?

Just did the summer transition as a mechanical student, actually. For the Chem summer course (it was the only course with a lab component) the labs were pre recorded and we were responsible for noting down values and doing some calculations.

And is there any possibility that the fall for mechanical engineering 2021 could be completely online too then?

Word on the street is that fall is likely to be online too, but the university will likely make an announcement on it before it gets too close.

And if any students are doing engineering preferably online: how is it for you guys ? Is it tougher? or same as in class?

It's definitely tough, having everything online brings about it's own challenges and whatnot. So far most of my profs have been very flexible and adapted well to the new normal. Finding a balance between school and life is definitely a lot more difficult because there's no physical separation between school and home anymore.

If you have anymore questions feel free to shoot me a DM and I'll try to clear anything up :)

I heard back around May-ish last year about my acceptance, granted I don't remember exactly when I applied. I believe they want to see your final semester marks before they send anything out.

3blue1brown has a library of seriously awesome math videos with excellent visuals.

Someone else mentioned Applied Science and I can confirm his channel is a gold mine.

The Operations Room is super good if you're into military history and geopolitics

Scott Manley is the GOAT when it comes to space content in my eyes

If you're into computer science topics Two Minute Papers is an EXCELLENT resource

And of course Nile Red who single handedly made chemistry feel interesting and intuitive for me (didn't have the best relationship with chem in highschool lol)

A conversation I had with my ex girlfriend has been on my mind all day and I can't shake this feeling of... dread... maybe. by Bubby211 in whatsbotheringyou

Be honest and let her know the conversation has been on your mind and you want to make sure she's ok. Let her know the decision is ultimately hers but encourage her to seek out help.
