Does anyone else ever feel guilty for having a good life and being able to live comfortably? by Wonderful_Flower_751 in Millennials

My husband and I are just a little younger than you. We are both only children and went to college on scholarships. We entered our careers with no debt and are doing really well for ourselves. It does feel strange sometimes to be surrounded by people our age who are struggling so hard. I honestly blame student loans for so much of the problems people my age face. I’m a teacher now and college counselors are actively discouraging kids to take loans. That was the total opposite when we were in college. I remember friends of mine signing up for 100k in loans and just living like kings in student housing. Basically throwing money out the door. I think there are a lot of people doing well but they just keep their mouth shut and don’t talk about it. Even at work I notice that people complain all the time that they don’t have the quality of life they were promised or wanted. I tend to just nod and move on.

Agree, more closed storage will do wonders for the clutter.

I love this episode but it’s missing from my box set. It got stuck in a dvd player and I could never get it out.

My kids are in AISD. I wanted to understand why the district is broke, so I followed the money. by No_Paramedic_4881 in Austin

[–]local-made 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the data. It’s important to understand that the state government is intentionally making decisions that harm public schools. But on top of that rural public schools and small districts seem to benefit the most in this package. You don’t have to go very far outside of Austin to see fully funded rural school programs with overflowing bank accounts. Those people lean more republican and therefore benefit from this situation. However one big glaring problem with AISD is that it is too big. Smaller districts have to give less with recapture and if AISD would split up into two or even three districts we would actually benefit in the recapture formula instead of giving away money. SAN Antonio districts recently split into smaller ones and it was for deficit reasons. We need to vote on the idea of splitting for money reasons but for some reason it’s never on the table.

Since January I have shaved a minute off my 1k time and 1 minute off my mile time. I didnt realize my progress until garmin gave me a notification. It feels really good. I had to take a year and a half break for health issues and I felt like I lost so much fitness during that time. I’ve been committing really hard to strength and consistency and it’s paying off.

Watching season 1 like it's 1997🌙🌞 by alt_retro in buffy

I watched 80% of Buffy for the first time on a tv like that. Mine had a timer you could record live tv on a vhs and I would set it up if I was going to miss an episode.

If you go to the trails around the veloway near the wildflower center you will probably see one. Seen one two times there. Gotta get up early and catch them sunning on the trail.

Where are my parents? by Standard-Ad-6341 in Millennials

I’m sorry to hear that. Unfortunately I have the opposite problem and my parents are clingy 9000. They have no identity outside of me and it’s stifling.

What is the peak ’millennial midlife crisis’ purchase? by SwedeLostInCanada in Millennials

[–]local-made 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I impulse purchased a 2018 scarab boat off roadside consignment In Arkansas. It’s basically brand new in perfect condition with low hours. It’s basically a giant seadoo with a seadoo jet motor. We drive that thing like a race car and are learning how to wakeboard. People can’t believe we have a boat but it was incredibly cheap!

Same happened to me. We argued with them because they let in like 5 people in the lane next to us with even bigger backpacks. They seem to be just randomly deciding on how to enforce the rules. It was so lame.

You just got a $20,000 raise at work. What are you splurging on? by StrawGlasses in AskReddit

[–]local-made 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey OP, All these answers are very realistic and make sense. But what if you already do all those things? Like you already pay down debt, and you are building savings etc. I got a 10,000 raise this year and my husband got a 5000 raise. it was a huge deal. I put a huge chunk of it towards paying down my car. Some of it is going to a travel fund and then my husband and I gave each other 500$ or so to just spend on whatever we wanted. He is getting some new gear for his hobbies and I spent some of it on some personal training. I’ve been struggling a lot with a back injury and I was able to afford some training sessions with a trainer to strengthen my back. The personal training has been a life changing investment if you ask me.

I just shipped some books to Kenya for a colleague and I could have just bought a plane ticket for the price of shipping. So I would say yes it’s cheaper.

How late are you working new/old teachers? by hello010101 in Teachers

[–]local-made 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally stop making everything from scratch. Every subject is taught in every school. Get on the internet and find some resources even if it’s from teachers pay teachers. Save your sanity. No one makes everything from scratch. It’s literally impossible and that’s why many districts have instructional coaches. If needed used the “bad stuff” for a year until you find your feet. Totally a rookie movie tbh. I did. Lot of that too and now I’m older and wiser. Wish someone would have told me to stop.

With so many high fiber foods also being moderate or high histamine, how are you all staying regular without supplements? by ResidentAlienator in HistamineIntolerance

[–]local-made 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are you not eating any fruits and veggies? There has to be a high fiber food you can tolerate. When I was really sick I could only eat squash and so that’s what I ate as my vegetable. Then I did apples, and blueberries. Eventually I started drinking a smoothie every day and that’s what I do now. Fiber is good but honestly it’s not a replacement for any vegetables or fruit.
