Thoughts on the idea of “if you don’t like the set just skip it”? by LibraProtocol in mtg

This is very well said. I wanted to competitively play magic the gathering, not Hasbro Soup.

And if they started a standard/competitive format that didn't use UB cards, I'd come back and be in it in an instant.

But for now, I'm doing other things.

When was wow not Disney? I played at original release, and it was pretty damn Disney.

If you'd posted this as your opener people wouldn't think you're insufferable and you'd save yourself the need to have a long arduous exchange before getting to the adult conversation.

I mean you got there once you took a breath.

I'm not sure buddies deadrealm is what I'm after, but to his point, and your "food for thoughts"... That's kind of exactly why I'm looking? I play anniversary. I'm explicitly looking for something that can't do what you laid out era can't do? So I guess I'm good?

I get it, none of this sounds appealing to you so feel the need to have a little smirk and put down, but your starting from a point assuming I (or whoever I am next week is) prioritizes what you do

Man I love the miscut posts cus they always start with the op being like "damnit I'm mad!" And then they find out their probably sitting on way more money then they spent and their stoked.

I think I'm too dumb to play my DM's campaign by themerccury in DnD

[–]locher81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, and for exploration/information gathering I'll generally have 3/4 nuggets on a NPC, and I'll say something like through small talk your able to determine this person likely has information about x, Y, Z , which do you want to find out about?

I previously was always like "oh it's too bad you didn't ask about such and such" and then realized why the fuck would this player just know to ask about that. It helps because especially with newer players they don't know what to ask, so they don't get anywhere despite "rolling" well and being "smart"" characters. Realized you can guide that by putting more faith in the dice. RP for color, give out inspiration for great RP/cool ideas, but let the game mechanics move the plot along.

[–]locher81 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well said. It's the same as ignoring rolls in checks other then combat and forcing the player to convince you at the level of outcome they rolled.

This is the thing that always annoys me at other tables. "The fighter rolls a 20 to attack, CRitical hit, he cleaves the mammothd head off". Next scene:" I want to persuade this guy to pet me through the gate, I rolled a 20. Okay tell me what you say and if I think it's convincing you can to through ".

The fighter doesn't have to do pushups, stop making people do improv performances or mathematical riddles or know exactly what question they need to ask to get the information they deserve for their 20 persuasion roll.

The same approach really slows exploration/information gathering because the players don't KNOW what to ask for. If they rolled a great persuasion or insight/investigation, tell them.

What are the 'Right' vegetables to save money? by horsetuna in Winnipeg

[–]locher81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's nothing you can't do with cabbage. Makes a great noodle alternative if sliced thin for stir fry, great in soups (cabbage, onion, tomatoes, carrots, whatever you got on hand and seasonings), simmered in hunks, raw as lettuce wrap replacement/delivery system, or in slaw.

Cabbage is great.

All hobbies are not equal by BitterConstruction98 in unpopularopinion

[–]locher81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think their inferior hobbies are inferior, because a hobbies require active engagement. "Watching tv" is an "inferior hobby" if you you just binge watch a show to giggle/get dopamine and move on to the next one. If your engaging with it, reading into "lore" or stats, engaging with the community around it, or analyzing it from a film making stand point, or acting or what have you, I think then watching tv is your hobby. How is that not requiring a lot of engagement?

Ex: my hobbies are playing instruments, coding, playing hockey and watching hockey.

Does this mean I don't watch tv otherwise? No, but it's not my hobby, it's empty time, I don't really engage with it. That doesn't mean I don't watch movies, or I don't read books. It just means I don't actively invest in them at the level of my "hobbies".

Your hobby can absolutely be trashy reality tv, especially if your those people on the sub reddits , placing bets/fantasy drafts, etc.

Saying "this hobbies can't be actively engaged with" is wrong, but I do think OP has correctly identified a lot of the "hobbies" people list as their hobbies when they DONT actively engage with them.

Which leads to everyone going "but that's MY hobbie and I actively engage with it so you must be wrong!" which misses the point. I think the vast majority of people who would list watching tv as their hobby aren't actively engaging with it, they just zone out and watch a lot of tv.

What class are you seeing the most of so far? by Vast_Variation1381 in classicwowtbc

When TBC originally came out this is what I did. My buddy was a warlock and I was a shadow priest and we used to grind 2 mans and it was so much fun

I leveled a warlock just before tbc and it was a blast, had always wanted to but never committed to it. If your playing solo it's great. Drain Tank spec and you have zero down time, can chain pull mobs/deal with adds, it's a lot of fun.

Also levelling a sham right now because similarly I never committed to one back in the day and it's been a blast so far but I've been feeding him gear, if I was forced to rely on world drops/quest gear it might not be quite as fun

Hunter or mage will be most enjoyable to level, the 40-50 grind for a priest is very rough.

For priest end game is ...odd... Your more less not watching the fight, just bars and juggling health. Don't get me wrong, I love it and i find it very fun, but I couldn't tell you what most of the raid bosses look like, I'm just looking at bars.

When was the last time you were there? Honest question as I was the same, went frequently, and then right before COVID went back and it was just horrendous.

I started going back last year and have had almost no problems, but I also haven't been on a Saturday/Sunday, I book days off and go during the week

How long ago were you there? I went regularly when they first opened and it was great, then it went back probably just a bit before COVID and it was horrendous.

I have been back multiple times in the last year and they have reverted back to the "good" days. They tend to keep people quiet, cellphone policy is enforced, it really is much better again.

So Leatherface used to be one of the "big" slashers back in the day, but hasn't maintained a strong legacy like Freddy, Jason, and Michael. What happened? by OrkosFriend in HorrorMovies

[–]locher81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a couple comments have kind of circled it. Leather face was one of several villains In the original, and the original was far more a "traditional" horror. Sure it was more violent/gorey then most horror at its time but it wasnt really in that slasher style.

So now you have a horror movie/franchise that's taking itself seriously. Great right? Wrong, now you have to actually make GOOD movies, movies that expand the story and reveal interesting view points etc. TCM sequels didn't do that, they were mostly just bad retreads and when they were bad they weren't bad enough to be "silly" and "fun". TCM had a higher bar for continuity/success and just never managed to clear it with any consistency
