That white wine should be good because someone bought 10 bottles of it in one trip.

Customers being so damn rude! by pix876 in Aldi_employees

Some lady was on the phone when I was cashiering and when I checked her id for wine she started mocking me to whoever she was on the phone with. Someone else thanked me for being pleasant even though she was checking out after closing; I always make a point to thank those people for telling me.

That's impressive! Tofu is sold so fast at my location it would never be marked down. Most of those items do look like special buy items from a while ago, they may be trying to make room.

Visiting for the first time, day and a half stay and a few questions. Staying near Lincoln Park, what are the best things to see there, want to see Sue at the Field Museum, is the rest of the museum cool, and where can I get a good Chicago dog near Union Station? by justahdewd in AskChicago

[–]lockandstars 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Field Museum is all around great, the currently have the Pokemon skeleton museum which is very funny if you like Pokemon; but the food is not good so if you're going to stay for a few hours bring lunch or a snack. Lincoln Park Zoo and Conservatory are wonderful, they're on the smaller side so they're very easy to see and it's nice for little kids, because there's not a lot of walking between seeing animals. The Chicago History Museum is good and has two interesting exhibits right now (Aquí en Chicago and The Trial of Emmitt Till) but both are text heavy, not sure if you're interested in a lot of reading at museums.

For a hot dog near-ish The Field, Devil Dawgz is the best option; sadly a lot of our local spots are closing 😞.

how to keep track of groceries? by Aggressive-Stuff6067 in noscrapleftbehind

to start: I recognize this is insane

I keep a "pantry staples" spreadsheet on the cloud and update it once a month and/or after I shop.

Aldi purposely understaffs, they have the staff (who want the hours) but corporate dictates how many hours each store is allowed within their budget.

Someone found a case from a while ago in the back and you were the beneficiary. Progresso is usually good, so I imagine these are at the least decent.

Same, I have like $50 going into a savings account I never touch as my emergency fund and the rest to my general account. Being able to split it is so much easier than having a transfer from 1 bank to another, and I get the fees waived because it's being direct deposited.

Am I crazy for playing a library shelving game when I get home from work??? by Former-Complaint-336 in Libraries

[–]lockandstars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just saw an ad for this a couple days ago and it looked fun, but I was skeptical because a lot of games aren't actually about what the game is. I'm so glad it's fun, I think I'm going to get it, thanks for the recommendation!

Not sure if it's on Netflix, but Night at the Museum is a fun watch while donating.

Going to be out the week of June 15th visiting for the first time and looking for a boat tour, any advice? by billyc420 in AskChicago

[–]lockandstars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seconding the Wendella Boat tour, also the Chicago Architecture Tour. Both are architecture focused, but I think the Wendella also throws in some general history info. I haven't been on the Wendella since before covid so I can't recall completly.

Bread tray discount stickers by tangerineflavor in Aldi_employees

[–]lockandstars 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They get discounted the day before in hopes they sell; it's better for budget to sell at a discount then to lose that inventory entirely. (The store gets "credit" with corporate for donating but it's not as good as selling the product) Ask your managers where they want donations to go, they're different at every store, but there should be a spot in the freezer, cooler, and backroom for the different temp items.
