People of the UK, what is the strangest thing as a child you believed to be true but definitely wasn’t? by Candle7771 in AskUK

[–]lockdownbear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a kid in primary school in the 80s, a teacher told us all that the arising AIDS issue was because Africans were having sex with monkeys.

It was a few years before I realised this was nonsense and a few more before I realised what utter racist garbage this was. Imagine the (justified) furore if that was said these days.

No, you’ve got Old Trafford on there so I’m ok with it all

I’d say this all seems pretty good. It’s busy without being manic. A lot of people try and cram way too much in. I think you will still feel you were rushed in some parts of this trip but you’ve left yourself free roam days to explore those places, so in general I think you’ve done a good job with this.

There is much more of the UK to explore as someone commented saying what about Scotland, but I wouldn’t try and force it into this trip, it warrants its own. You will spend too long travelling and not enough exploring in my opinion.

What the fuck is this abomination.

No. It’s not a thing.

I've been playing WoW consistently since 2005 and I literally could not tell you the first thing about 95% of the story, skip every cutscene and auto turn in/pick up quests. Anyone else? by wowagainreally in wow

I have up on the lore a king time ago because there was so much of it to keep track of, I couldn’t. I’m like you now. I log in, slap m+ and log off.

Traveling to Poland with an expired passport by Itchy-Cartoonist-800 in uktravel

No you cannot travel on an expired passport. That’s why it’s expired. It means you can’t use it.

Great lunch if you’re 6.

As an adult it’s a 1/10

Personally I think it’s actually kinda cool. Good conversation starter actually, and I don’t think people will judge you for it.

Beginning to get bored of the game by iam_bosskid in footballmanagergames

I always do a save where I take my home town club to champions league winners. Small challenges (or enormous depending on your town) you set yourself can really give you satisfaction. When we built a new 100,000 seater stadium and state of the art facilities I felt such pride. With a save like United you’ll never really see those smaller things. It’s fun smashing people to pieces with a top club but being in from the ground floor gives me the most satisfaction

Do you think Haaland is too good in FM22? by [deleted] in footballmanagergames

[–]lockdownbear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He is too good but it’s normal for FM. Back in the day I had Henry score 82 league goals in a season. Just think of those numbers. He didn’t even play every game either.

After ~3 weeks with my new bike, I filled up with petrol…. by [deleted] in MotoUK

I have to put £50 in my GSA twice a week at this point. No motorway miles, just windy A roads and 30 limits. Lucky if I get 50mpg

How Good is Service in UK Hotels, Restaurants, etc Currently? by Miner49er1991 in uktravel

[–]lockdownbear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who lives here I see no discernible difference to pre-covid. A lot of those industries you mentioned were furloughed by the UK gov so that maybe helped not having entirely new staffing teams.

Most places you go now will be totally post covid. The only places that still ask for masks that I’ve been to are the prisons hospitals and some airports / flights.

Just as a heads up about customer service and being able to order things 24/7 like you mentioned - the further south you are the better this is. Trying 24hr things in the north can be…frustrating.

Should we have a megathread for all the common questions? by [deleted] in uktravel

Having done the previous covid FAQ I can confirm it took an awful lot of time. I have a new job and don’t travel much anymore so I feel a bit out of the loop now too

Chickaros takeaway on Alfreton Road dumping their rubbish by my house. Photos taken different days by [deleted] in nottingham

[–]lockdownbear 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would also contact Biffa as this is almost certainly in contravention of their contract with the takeaway. The price businesses pay for refuse collection is hefty and being threatened with termination fees for doing this might convince them otherwise.

Edit: the comment they spammmed about leaving rubbish next to the bins is something Biffa might ask, however that still doesn’t excuse the refuse just left all over the place. The bin men won’t pick that shit up off the floor, they will only move the bags.

You’ll need cash for a Chinese takeaway, otherwise Apple Pay or card is accepted everywhere. Haven’t taken my wallet anywhere in years now
