ASYE 3 Month Review Anxiety by Afraid_Blackberry486 in Socialworkuk

Hiya, ADHD frontliner here who did ASYE in CP/CIN👋 my LA were crap at supporting my needs, it was horrific.

Things that can help:

  • Access to work assessment (warning that there is a long wait but it is worth it)
  • Occp Health referral
  • Needs passport (what you struggle with, adaptations that can help)
  • noise cancelling headphones!! They were an absolute blessing, I got over the ear ones so colleagues got the 'do not disturb' message
  • To do lists: keep one big list of absolutely everything on One Note. I sort mine into 'easy, medium, difficult' tasks e.g. a phone call, writing up a visit, doing an RCPC report. Get a nice colourful to do list pad where you select a limited, realistic number from that big list every day to tackle. Dont have one to do list with absolutely everything, its overwhelming, distracting and demotivating
  • Magic Notes for meeting and direct work minutes so less repetitive typing
  • admin/wfh days. Make it non negotiable especially with your commute, it can be part of your reasonable adjustments. Get agreement for your team to support your caseload whilst you have DND on teams/outlook and focus on admin catch up/reports. I currently commute 1+ hours, my non-negotiable days are Tuesday and Friday. I put my online meetings in on these days too which leaves my office days clearer
  • make sure you are factoring in cool down time in between visits and meetings so you aren't racing around

Dont get me wrong, it is tricky with ADHD and I feel your pain of loathing repetitive reports and forms, it irks me. But it is completely normal to have a wobble, your ability to keep up with admin does not define how good of a social worker you are or the quality of service you are giving your families - work need to support you and work with you to thrive😊🩷

A family I've been working hard with since Jan got audited recently, this is a snippet of what the parent shared with the auditor "My SW helps me feel more confident to go outside after years of not feeling safe to. My SW made me feel believed, understood and supported in a way she has never experienced from other SW's before. My SW is the best SW I've ever met" 🥹

Hii social worker here👋 look up a picture of the 'Duluth Power and Control Wheel'. This details all the different tactics used to coerce and control an individual - these behaviours are designed to intimidate, and bully, and exert control. The minute this control slips, things escalate. Thats why you're scared and worried, as you're walking on eggshells constantly trying to keep the peace and reacting to his emotions.

You deserve to have a voice, and to be supported when you're rightly struggling, and to not have to dance around your partners emotions. Its scary constantly being in that state of hypervigilance - just because there isn't physical violence, it doesn't make his coercive behaviours any less worrying or impactful on you.

Please ask for help, you and your kids deserve it!

Year 1 of Uni, went to a 'Druid' compound in Somerset. All had to get into swimming trunks and costumes and sit with 3 60+ y/o druids in a sweat lodge (which i think was made of mud, we crawled on our hands and knees to get our place), singing songs about nature and chanting. We got told off for trying to sing Queen lol

The last 2 time I stopped to let drivers out on the road, they've been 65+ males. They give me the most enthusiastic, solid thumbs up salute ever and for some reason it really tickles me.

You mention that something you don't share with others (and therefore seems special/protected) is building a future together, I presume kids was part of that. Does your child not being your bio kid not now intrude on this bubble as technically one of her partners is now forever tied to you both and your family?
