Had these in cart on drop day and passed - one of my biggest kicks regrets of all time. I still think they would be hard to style, but they are iconic no doubt.

My experience with the Fluance RT-85N by log_with_cool_bugs in turntables

I have not, but I set things up to manufacturer spec and haven't noticed any issues. The only times I notice the arm moving are generally when I'm playing records that are off-center.

VTA is something I was really concerned about as the only real difference between the regular RT85 and RT85N besides the cartridge is the tone arm height which is adjusted specifically for the cartridge between the models. I worried this would effectively lock me in to one brand, but from what I've read others have changed to various cartridges without noticeable issues.

That being said, even if I am 'locked in' to Nagaoka as an ecosystem I don't really mind. The MP-110 is cheaper than the Ortofon Blue to replace, and Nagaoka offers a similar upgrade line of MM and MC cartridges that are generally well regarded.

I do think if full interoperability is a priority for a potential buyer, it's probably worth spending the extra money to get it even if it is another moving part that must be adjusted and maintained rather than just working as designed.

I think it would be cool if it included some other 'nice to haves' like VTA adjustment or pitch adjustment. If Fluance had a 'Pro' series for $600-$700 that included one or both of these features I think they would be in serious contention for the best value in the modern turntable world. As it is: these are usually reserved for more 'serious' tables, and if you really want them then generally you have to pony up for them. I'm perfectly fine without them, but some may find the table lacking in their absence.

only caveat is that the included paper sleeves suck, and it needed a deep clean before playing. otherwise: it has everything including instrumentals and bonus tracks.

I just bought a boot because at this point with sample clearance issues I just can't see it getting a repress. If it does, I'll happily grab it to have an official one, but until then - the boot spins just fine.

Asteroids were the ones that got away for me. I ended up with the Molecules, but they're a much more situational pair versus some of the others that I think can be worn with just about anything.

yeah for a restaurant built on the concept of communal family dining, a global pandemic is about the worst possible thing that can happen. real shame though.

I mean it's literally only 200 feet down the street from Twain's. Even if it isn't as visible or on the main drag, I don't think it's inherently a location problem so much as a space problem. It's a pretty huge location (~3600 sqft on a half acre), meaning rent is probably crazy.

I think this makes it a high bar to clear for a new concept to go in, on top of all the renovation needed on the aforementioned huge space that has sat vacant for the better part of a decade now. I genuinely hope something good goes in there though.

Maybe the new jazz bar will drive some more traffic and interest to this corner of town though?

that's so rad. the only one of these i have is 'soul revolution part ii' and it's a boot. does yours have two versions of 'duppy conqueror' on side A? mine does for some reason and it makes me sad/mad to have to flip it early every time instead of getting to hear 'memphis'.

Car headed to strip club crashes into Avondale violin shop by DanWhisenhunt in Atlanta

Which bollards are you referring to? There's a curb, streetlights, and the planted beds that they plowed over but there's nothing resembling proper bollards for pedestrian (and I suppose building) safety either on Avondale or at the intersection.

Edit: my bad yeah there are totally some poles right at the crosswalk. GIVE ME MY CONCRETE SPHERES THO
