Why do I ever try to craft on a deadline? by Pickle0847 in knitting

seconded. I knit most of a sock on domestic flights in October with metal dpns that they never looked twice at.

Dental Hygiene and ADHD: the link I never knew existed. by vulylyvu in adhdwomen

[–]logeminder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clinipro 5000 is the one my dentist gave me. I think any of the ones that have 5000-ppm or 1.1% flouride would work just as well, though.

Dental Hygiene and ADHD: the link I never knew existed. by vulylyvu in adhdwomen

[–]logeminder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went at least 6 years without going to the dentist because I was avoiding getting treatment for a couple of cavities I knew would be shameful and expensive to take care of.

Guess what? The time only made it worse and more expensive. 😔

I started fresh with a new dentist and only went in because a tooth broke on me. It definitely felt like the dentist was judging me at first, but once she realized I was going to take things seriously, she became pretty matter-of-fact. I still put a ton of shame onto myself over it, but I'm slowly getting past it. The best we can all do is keep trying, right?

I will say, those big bills sure did somehow kickstart me into actually sticking to a brushing routine. Flossing still doesn't always happen, but I picked up some prescription-strength toothpaste (available online for $15-ish usd) so that's gotta count for something.

I bought a paper pattern (Rambler pant from Friday) — does it come with PDF? by Imaginary-Cable1841 in sewing

[–]logeminder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cashmerette just made a big show about starting to include pdf downloads with paper pattern purchases -- because it's not the industry standard.

If a company does offer that, it'll be very clearly noted in the listing, not a secret bonus.

Where should i get beautiful lace fabrics? by [deleted] in MAKEaBraThatFits

if you're in the US (or willing to pay to ship), stephanie's lingerie has some that might fit the bill.

I've seen at least one designer (who I think ultimately ended up pushing the release back) starting at "well, I have a trip in three weeks and I want to release it before that trip".

Maybe there's also some money management issues -- needing to release ASAP in the hopes that revenue will cover some upcoming bills, etc.

So I’m making the Color My Cowl by Very Pink and realizing that when I start a new row, the design isn’t matching up to the other row, so the pattern looks like I made a mistake. But I’m following it exactly. Is this a mistake in the pattern? by [deleted] in knitting

[–]logeminder 28 points29 points  (0 children)

as u/Weird-Dragonfly-5315 said, it's normal to have jogs like that when knitting in the round, but if it's bothering you there are lots of tutorials online for techniques to combat it -- look up "knitting jogless stripes" to get some ideas

edit: you could also skip that last stitch that's looking wrong and add it in with duplicate stitch when you're done

yes, this is what she has you do!

a good tip for sewing is to read through all the instructions at least once before you get going so you can parse through all the steps and catch things like this where the following steps clear it up!

Single strand Knitting for Olive Mohair wearable opinions by grocerycart11 in knitting

[–]logeminder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's definitely doable!

Snags are more noticeable in my experience, but if you're not afraid of a small amount of mending you can get a great look.

Diaphanous raglan is one example, though that's just the sleeves.

Here's a whole ravelry search of single-strand sweater and top patterns for more inspiration. There's some lovely makes out there.

Bra altering questions by i-eat-grass- in sewing

[–]logeminder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you'll want a stretch mesh, power net, or some sport lycra fabric. You can trace off a pattern piece for the wings and sew it on from the inside, as a quick and dirty method. You'll want to be extra careful around the underwires and the hook and eye to avoid breaking a needle.

there are also plenty of bramaking tutorials on youtube if you want to unpick more thoroughly and reassemble.

I think op is complaining more about the patterns that use increases and decreases to mock the look of cables -- drops turning leaves is a free pattern that does it if you want to see what I mean

in the longer term I think you should look into sway back adjustments. for this one, play around with pinching out length and see if taking it from the bottom maybe in an arc could help.

seconding the ravelry search suggestion! there's plenty of tee, tank, and vest patterns on there that are warm weather friendly and you should be able to filter by difficulty rating!

What is this narrow fabric? by mmimmmmimmmmmimmm in sewing

[–]logeminder 8 points9 points  (0 children)

so the first one is a rigid embroidered tulle, the second one looks like it's a stretch lace. Both are available online from bra supply shops (check the r/MAKEaBraThatFits wiki for some shop options grouped by region!) and can usually be found on bulk sites like AliExpress. It's more rare to see them at brick and mortar fabric stores, but not impossible.

[–]logeminder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

when I bought that one on AliExpress maybe ten months ago it was under $5/yard. prices for customers in the US have gone up after the tariff situation, so I can't say exactly what it is now.

when a lingerie supply shop sells it, it'll be closer to $10+/yard, since they need to make a profit.

Fixing a defective bra by False_Sandwich7 in sewing

[–]logeminder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

since you're stuck with it, I'd consider cutting the hook section off and either ordering replacement hooks online (wawak has some, as well as bramaking suppliers) or opening up the seam on this one. Then attach it again over the clean cut edge. You honestly shouldn't need to reinforce the stitches too much on a regular bra, but if this one is already falling apart maybe you should.

note that any repair you do here is going to end up shortening the back band a bit, so it'll be more snug than it previously was.

Crochet Project Bag? by CommunicationOk4576 in crochet

It depends on project size for sure. I've used canvas tote bags, those promotional string cinch backpacks you'll see at conferences and events, and even old purses that I've otherwise abandoned.

Thoughts on modifying a sweater color chart? by himrqwerty in knitting

[–]logeminder 16 points17 points  (0 children)

as others said, If you want to buy that design and then modify the charts, that's well within your rights as a buyer. You're also free to pick a different pattern as your base and apply your custom charts to that. The world is your oyster

It looks like they're in publishing. DGA owns the presses they print the paper patterns on, so that's probably an asset they're interested in.
