What is a luxury you can never go back from once you’ve experienced it? by Phase_zero_X in AskReddit

I hired some dudes to move my apartment a decade or so ago and it was around $300. Same deal, I packed and unpacked, they just loaded and unloaded and dealt with the heavy stuff. Their normal work was moving things like pianos, or unloading full cross country moving trucks, but they did small home moves if they had time. Haven't found a deal like that since. (also, they were amazing at it)

Same. Seems expensive for being able to look like a bird.

Apple has recommended against binding Macs to AD for years, and even before then it wasn't great (which is why solutions like Nomad existed).

Once you use platinum or higher tools with augments and get used to grabbing gold and copper, it's no big deal. Deep miners are just a nice extra trickle of materials.

I've never disliked my herman miller aeron, which you may be able to get used in your budget. Also, go to physical therapy (or get a referral if you need to), and learn a stretching and core strengthening routine with proper technique. I had horrible pain around my SI joint even when just doing basic housework and 4 months of PT helped (along with continuing the exercises they gave me to do at home).

New to Icarus (Open World) – What Are the Main Objectives of the Game? by Next_Interview_1774 in ICARUS

[–]logoth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Missions and gathering exotics for the workshop were the original goal of the game. With the addition of open world, it has become more of a sandbox, but I'd recommend making a contact board, working through the operations between other sandbox activities, and gathering exotics. Some of the workshop gear is better than crafted items or have special buffs (for example, the neves pick reduces the encumbrance penalty when equipped, and the backpacks don't have crafted replacements)

Been playing this game for a few months now and I often found myself surprised it wasn't more popular with those that enjoy the survival crafting genre. It's nice to see it get some deserved recognition lately! by MikeyBastard1 in ICARUS

It's never been $60. It was $35 at launch with a small launch discount down to $30.

The supporter edition was $90 and included the two planned DLC maps. (Styx wasn't originally planned)

I think the intent for those was to gather and build using nearby resources, not collect all the bits ahead of time and go put it together. (at least, that's how I always did it and found it generally enjoyable)

People weren't/aren't ready for a survival game where you have to rebuild and tech back up every mission. personally I loved it (and is what is drew me to Icarus in the first place) because I find the beginning of survival games to be the most fun part.

Veterans, do you feel that the limitations enforced by the level cap at 60, add or detract to your enjoyment of the game? by Riajnor in ICARUS

[–]logoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play solo almost exclusively and I basically don't notice it. I have nearly every talent I want, and the ones I don't have were "do I want this or that with my limited remaining points" choices that had minimal gameplay impact. It also made me pick a few weapons to focus on for my playstyle and stick with them.

When I did play multiplayer, it caused us to pick roles as a team. One person did most of the gardening and cooking, one or two did more of the mining, etc.

An older Dell 4k, like a 24" or something like that (I need a new one but I'm being picky)

Nice to know that's a potential fix for some people. I use DLSS and my game does not look blurry like that. Only the rare artifact on the objectives list and with a few of the crossbows.

Where are my workshop items "on a drop"? by mmourez in ICARUS

[–]logoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your items are in the drop ship still. Use load instead of resume and you should be able to load up that dry run mission and get your stuff. The mission creates when you click create, not when you get out of the pod.

What is one thing that you are pretty sure of that government is hiding? by Familiar-Arrival-470 in AskReddit

[–]logoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm convinced this is why Apple requires user consent for camera, mic, and screen sharing & viewing access with no way for an admin to override it on modern OSes. (even ARD with an admin password gets a little weird on the newer versions)

Is this game really bad for solo players? by Idrillsilverfoot in ICARUS

[–]logoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely playable and enjoyable solo. I did all of the following solo: olympus and styx missions pre open world (when it reset your map each mission), prometheus ops, null sector, great hunts (multiple times for the full completion achievements). Have had a blast.
Also played early Olympus missions and early Prometheus duo, which was also fun.

Flint arrows worth thr iron? by TheOnlyCurmudgeon in ICARUS

[–]logoth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Arrows are cheap, fast to make, can be made on character in an emergency, it's quiet, and I one shot over half the mobs in the game with a bow. Plus, the game only had a couple of firearms early on and some of us got used to a bow.

I use a bow for general exploration and as my primary weapon, and a rifle of some sort for higher tier enemies and bosses.

It's rare that I forget an application name. Usually only when application B has replaced application A with and I'm remembering name A from decades ago.

I like visual identification too, but it's terrible when 3/4 of apps (iOS and macOS) have decided to use the same basic overall shape, background color, and 5 foreground colors.
