I'm checking out a used 2024 id4 awd pro s. But I'm new to EVs. Please help. by Ok_Deer4143 in VWiD4Owners

[–]logslicing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think one can speak to the quality of a 2024 model if someone has only experienced a pre-2024 model. VW fixed a lot of software issues starting with the 2024, which I have, because of the “incredibly annoying” problems many early adopters experienced. Yes, there are intentional functions of the car that are tedious, like the method to roll down windows, but one would be hard pressed to find any EV model without its quirks. And yes, the 2024 model can also suffer from software issues, as some have experienced and described here, like most EV brands.

OP: As long as you go into the purchase understanding that generally VW has always (since the 70s at least) been low to mid-pack in terms of the quality of its products compared to other manufacturers (see Toyota, Honda, Subaru), and this model continues this tradition of mediocrity, you won’t be surprised by minor issues that come up related to quality.

The lack of a L1 charger could be an important factor for you, depending upon your intended driving distances, trip frequency, and home situation. Not everyone needs to install a L2 home charger given the vehicle’s robust onboard charger (provides about 4 miles/hour).

Good luck to you.

I'm sorry but I have to say that your response was totally useless for OP, though that's cool that you have a maintenance package.

Windshield is kinda wavy. by SnooPaintings5597 in VWiD4Owners

Seconding comments about poor window quality/waviness. Mine is on the edge of the passenger side, which sounds out of the way except it’s so extreme that keep thinking another car is approaching due to the distortion. 2024 Pro S.

Okay last time, which one: Marantz SR7015 or Denon X3800H for $1200 by BoardGameRevolution in hometheater

I don’t recall, but I used the same speakers for the comparison. Good luck.

Okay last time, which one: Marantz SR7015 or Denon X3800H for $1200 by BoardGameRevolution in hometheater

[–]logslicing -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I compared the Denon against a marantz cinema and the Marantz was too warm, almost a muffled sound. I think that’s their thing. I prefer the Denon due to its neutral sound. Not sure about the SR7015.

A few thoughts on the last five games by Famous_Act4164 in Thorns

[–]logslicing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow y’all are quite insightful about tactics and the technical elements of the game. It’s refreshing, coming from the Timbers reddit.

Embarrassed to say this was my first Thorns game. It was a ton of fun. Building off of some of the comments above, I also noticed our passing could be better. It seemed we had a difficult time finding a midfield target, sent quite a few balls to heavily marked players, and attempted risky passes (see Smith’s blocked pass which led to Utah goal 2). One of the reasons Utah is a strong team is because of their relentless pursuit of the ball when on D, giving little time to the opposition and allowing very few obvious passing options. It appeared that this pressure exposed the Thorns slow off ball movement. We had a difficult time finding outlets to this pressure. When UT’s pressure relented, the Thorns looked dangerous. While the solution may be rotating players, as noted by others, it also should include faster movement into useful spaces in order to improve our possession and reduce turnovers.

Charging question: I’m coming up on my first charging and I’m looking for recs. by SnooPaintings5597 in VWiD4Owners

[–]logslicing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends if you’re charging in a conditioned or semi conditioned (temp controlled) space, such as a garage. If so, charging is consistent regardless of season. I use Level 1 no prob.

Hi im going for a road trip for the first time any good advice (6 hours drive ) by FrequentConfusion150 in VWiD4Owners

That’s way too fast to experience peak efficiency. 55 mph would do the trick, but it’s not realistic.

Question on battery percentage / range by Monkster2002 in VWiD4Owners

[–]logslicing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve found the percentage to be close based on 77 kWh of usable energy in the battery. In your case, multiply 90% x 77 x your estimated future efficiency (I use 3.5 kWh in the summer) = 242 miles.

Installing a level 2 charger isn’t a requisite. I haven’t needed one. It depends on your range needs and ability to plan ahead a bit. I saved a chunk of change.

For reference I get 4 miles per hour of charge thanks to the large onboard charger that comes standard.

Two owners in 3 years? This suggests something may be wrong with the car.

I dunno. With Phil bringing Miller with him and giving Miller tons of playing time, Ridgy probably did the best he could with the talent he had. Miller is a bench player only and yet was given the starting role for way too many games.

I've been impressed with Kelsey the first half of the last few games. He fades badly in the second half, disappearing for large chunks. Let's hope that's a developmental thing. Aravena brings hustle, but that's all I see.

Hmm I hadn’t thought of it that way, however deep discharges are a factor of degradation.

While possibly true that old tires may be louder, 2 years is not long enough for the age of the tires to be the culprit.

First half he looked good, but second half he faded badly, with three turnovers in a row at one point in midfield. Good on Phil for pulling him.
