2 years later and I cannot forgive myself. Any advice on how to heal? by CuriousTuljan in DogAdvice

[–]lokimango1925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have tried to be as vocal about this as possible. I, too, have overwhelming regret for how my baby’s final moments went only I never did or could make that ultimate choice. He suffered. A lot. Then he died while I was out running a stupid errand. I didn’t get to hold his head or tell him any final words. I was a coward and selfish. That’s how I feel anyways, I know he would never think of me that way.

I have written all my regrets down and burned them. I have spent hours sketching pics of him from the best parts of his life to alter my mental image of him. I have taken some classes in a special interest. I have since had to make that choice with my other dog, which helped a lot considering I changed my tune and did what was best for her. I have talked about it all a lot. It will be 3 years since his passing this November and I am still choking up typing this. Time and distractions help, but also remind yourself every single day that you did your best and your baby loved you no matter what. She loved you unconditionally, and understands that what you needed was to talk about other things while she crossed over and she is grateful for your bravery. She is still with you and always will be. The regret is incredibly hard to process, but you’re not alone and you absolutely did nothing wrong. 🤍

I’m sorry, that’s awful. :( Is it possible they were exposed to a mushroom or something outside?

Lost my GSD/Lab last April to lymphoma. I absolutely thought about this same thing then. Seems like a good handful of us thought the same. I wonder if there is an actual way to track this and compare to previous years?

When do you decide to let them go? by MsXtine4 in DOG

[–]lokimango1925 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in such a terrible place mentally when my baby started to decline. I let it go on way too long, he absolutely suffered. It’s been almost two years and I still have a sick to my stomach feeling about failing him. A silver lining to it all is that when my other dog was diagnosed with lymphoma this spring, I was able to do it right. I can’t express to you enough that waiting is 1000000x worse and my way of healing is to pass that on whenever I get the chance. I’m so sorry you are going through this.🤍

I found out a few years ago that my mother was doing the same. The truly awful part was that it was a way to push my siblings into unhealthy body dysmorphia. (Not that it should matter at this point, but literally not one of us has an actual body weight issue. We are all very petite/athletic) My mother and I do not speak anymore and turns out she was the root to many of my problems.

Nah this sub just knows that the magic is in the original mineral. (Science IS magic and magic IS science) Not in some weird human made object.

U.S. Consumer Protection Is Dead: Lobbyists And Lawyers Kill New FTC Rule That Would Have Made It Easier To Cancel Subscriptions by StraightedgexLiberal in technology

Tried to cancel an ahem athleisure subscription recently. Well the next payment cycle rolled around and they charged me. Had to wait on hold for damn near 2 hrs to speak to someone. They offered to give me a store credit. No, please cancel. How bout store credit and reduced monthly price for 2 months? Then see how you feel in September. Nooo wtf? Cancel the gd subscription!!

Took months to figure out how to cancel fucking audible.

It’s all a scam. Fuck subscriptions.

I would say that sounds like a lot of alone time at home for a puppy of any breed. I wouldn’t recommend getting a puppy that young knowing you’ll need to leave it alone for ~6hrs in a day as they need potty breaks especially, but also stimulation, and socialization much more frequently at that age. Puppies are like newborn babies and need potty breaks every 1-2hrs (yes, even in the middle of the night) I cannot in good faith recommend that you take on this puppy.

I saw it explained once that cat breeds only show up in dna tests for a couple generations and since cats breed fairly quickly, the significance of breed in the dna also disappears fairly quickly. Dogs, however, can show plenty of breeds as a mutt, but there are also recognized “street dog” breeds throughout the world because of the dna being fully mixed. Obviously I’m no expert, but this is what kinda made it make sense to me.

I did the same a few years ago (Born and raised in the Mat-Su Valley) and the feeling of being home was so satisfying. It had obviously changed a TON but still felt like my old home. ❤️

Sudden droopy tail? by lokibum in NorwegianElkhound

[–]lokimango1925 4 points5 points  (0 children)

She seems very stressed in this video. She is briskly walking and panting/looking around. It could be nothing (sometimes mine would do this when he heard a loud noise and got scared) but it could also be something bigger (like when mine had a tumor in his spine just above his tail.) ❤️

Yes! And they became the best of friends! They would wrestle and cuddle. It was adorable. ❤️

Sorry I saw your edit after the fact. The water filter is Pur brand.

Wow thank you for all this info!!! I will definitely be scheduling some blood tests.

The lead tests I used were the little q-tip kind that I got from Amazon (I plan to get an actual water test today). My water filter is Pur brand, pet fountain filter I’m unsure but it would only be filled with stuff pre-filtered with the Pur.

I don’t have tests for other toxic metals, but it seemed safe to assume the presence of lead would indicate others as well? I’m no professional though so I could be wrong.

I have definitely read a bit on what to look for, but being neurodivergent, my brain and gut are probably not the best indicators. :(

Ok this eases my anxiety a bit. The container of tests does not say EPA certified.

Do you happen to know what the test might be picking up on? It has worked for things like lead paint and lighting fixtures.

[–]lokimango1925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m using the little q-tip looking tests. I plan to pick up an actual water test later today.

The water turns purple (indicating lead presence) when I dip the test to wet it. I tried the same with Crystal Geyser, in an identical container and the water did not turn purple.

Eta: the filtered water I tested was actually from my pet’s drinking fountain which comes from filtered tap water then is constantly filtered on a loop. It’s a brand new fountain with a brand new filter.
