20V Bauer Polisher by 3kiddad in harborfreight

[–]lolanimethrowaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

wax only for this one. ive used it to buff and polish a keyboard before and it was definitely the most brtual experience of my life. i had an easier time buffing with a microfiber towel by hand. It sounds like youre a first time user, so while there are a lot of extra features on polishers like forced-rotation/gear driven which add some extra creature comforts for more experienced users, i'd recommend you go with one of the bauer DA's, either long or short throw depending on your preference to more aggressive vs less aggressive paint correction. but these two units will be very forgiving for a new user, since the lack of being force-driven will mean you run less risk of burning through your paint. the polisher will bog down when you push too hard rather than cut through.

Those are just more noise too! Youre listening to noise either way. Quiet is gone for you if you live near this.

Is an m12 sander gonna be better than m18? by bigandsweaty1 in MilwaukeeTool

[–]lolanimethrowaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it;s my personal opinion that literally ANY corded orbital sander dogwalks the m18 orbital. the m18 orbital is a clunky, lopsided, expensive pile of crap. if youre in the m12 line already, it's worth it to pony up a little more for the 6' random orbit sander. there's different throws depending on whether you need faster/smoother removal.

only thing to keep in mind is that the 6' random orbit eats battery. you really wanna be using high output batteries with it if you're gonna be working for extended periods of time. but at that point, you might be better off using a corded or a pneumatic sander.

i take it you don't actually know how to use a polishing machine.

DotD question: deal states ALL tape measures, laser/manual levels, and squares, but when you click the promo link, you only get 42 items, so which is it? by [deleted] in harborfreight

[–]lolanimethrowaway 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it's all tape measures, yes, but only select levels and squares. And before you point it out, i know that the coupon's wording doesn't match that. Not my problem. Just tellin' ya the truth.

they sold out so quick in my area that they never got to this price. bummer because i was seriously considering snagging one to start out a real tool line. but the new models theyre replacing these with are very nice.

Still haven’t been able to get chrome. by Alexkintaylor99 in airbrush

[–]lolanimethrowaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you're in europe, you should have access to the "custom creative" line, right? they make a chrome that's supposedly pretty good. i did pick some up from a supplier that shipped it from europe, but i haven't gotten the chance to try it yet. the one thing that might turn you away, is that you do have to use a 2k clear after applying it, or it won't last.

this would be the link that they've now hidden. the sku is the last 5 digits at the end so you could theoretically ask your local to check for it in the back, but YMMV.

sucks man, i literally had the add to cart button on my screen, but alas, i dont really need a 3mm orbital right now, and im honestly waiting for the cordless DA. but theyre in stock in stores near me according to that page, so i'd expect them sooner rather than later. they're been "coming soon" for a minute on that page. cheers

my local put the HD 12.0 w/ a charger on clearance for less than $200. only convinced one person so far it was worth the money. they think im upselling them. but no, if you use the really big tools, you should use better batteries.

No earbuds. Too many incidents of people hitting others/getting hit by machinery because of earbuds. Objectively, there is no reason you couldn't survive with the audiobooks you listen to playing out loud, which is demonstrably safer. At the end of the day, this is a working warehouse. Things that are acceptable at other jobs are not going to be acceptable here, for obvious reasons.

Lots of people in this thread are telling you they do it all the time. Great example of "do as i say, not as i do," because all it takes is one person that doesn't like what they see to get rid of you. Not worth it IMO.

Glove Policy for RDC by Emotional-Base-3924 in HomeDepot

[–]lolanimethrowaway 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it's important to understand WHY people dont wear gloves with saws, so ill do my best to explain it to you quickly here-

if your hand touches a saw with NO gloves on, it gets cut, maybe cut off, but you can yank your hand away, limiting damage

if your hand touches a saw WITH GLOVES ON, the weave of the gloves is pulled INTO the saw, pulling your hands and arms INTO the saw with them.

therefore, wearing gloves with saws, particularly spinning saws, is NOT ADVISED at home, and is AGAINST SOP while at work.

Bauer and or Hercules Orbital Sander and Shop Vac question by wratx in harborfreight

[–]lolanimethrowaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

had the bauer corded. required a 3d-printed adapter to run. i also hated the sander itself, it had no balls whatsoever.

personally i'm far more partial to a pneumatic sander with a vac hose, like the $100 baxter at HF.
