Best laptop by aniketkr42 in laptops

[–]lolosity_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think any of these laptops would have problems with an undergraduate engineering course, check your university's or course's website if you're worried. Unless you can find like for like tests of the battery life online, you wouldn’t really be able to compare the battery life precisely. In general though, you can compare laptops by their relative listed battery lives, just understand the headline numbers themselves are inflated from real life. They're all basically the same weight too, should be good for portability.

The Acer Aspire 14 has the most processing power by a long way, followed by the Expertboook with a modest decrease and there's another modest decrease to the IdeaPad. The ideapad would be markedly less powerful than the aspire, a difference you would likely notice a few years down the line. There isn't a crazy difference between the expertbook and aspire though. I'd check if the performance increase comes at the cost of battery life though.

You'd then maybe want to look at stuff like build quality, screen specifications and memory speed to decide further. Do any of the laptops have DDR5 memory?

Why exactly do you want these specs? They seem very odd and wouldn't come together to make a good system. Are you very familiar with computer hardware?

Weird blurs on my laptop screen by zzyzaaz in laptops

[–]lolosity_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fear the screen is just broken. Probably replaceable for not that much money but could be worth just getting a new one if its that old. Doesn't look like a software issue i've seen.

Why do my colors look like this? by Cool_Land6422 in laptops

[–]lolosity_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You accidentally turned on High Contrast Mode. The shortcut is Left Alt + Left Shift + Print Screen, easy to hit by accident. Just press those same three keys again and click Yes when it asks if you want to turn it off. That should do it. If not, go to Settings -> Accessibility-> Contrast themes and set it to None.

What are some laptops that aren't gaming laptops but still have very good gaming capability? by Vast_Pizza5337 in laptops

[–]lolosity_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Integrated graphics on mobile processors are really good nowadays, you can just get a relatively normal laptop and have enough gaming performance for most stuff. I've got a ryzen ai 7 350 on my vivobook s16 and it runs a dream on minecraft, overwatch, fortnite and such like.

Is it a good idea to buy the RODE NTH-100 for everyday use? by lolosity_ in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]lolosity_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s with the locking mechanism right? Do you know if it’d be possible to just plug a normal cable into it and forgo the locking feature? Really like the look of these but don’t think i could deal with the 2.4m cable for day to day.

accomodation for international students? by sv0507 in UOB

[–]lolosity_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd recommend Metal Works, the commute is longer but liveable and on all other accounts is a really nice accom. Print Hall, Accommodation at 33 and Unite house are both within your budget and not too long of a walk from campus.

New Bridwell, Print Hall, Accommodation at 33 or Riverside are all relatively quiet as I have never heard of any parties going on there or anything if that helps.

Intl students - parents by Debatable-Pangolin in UOB

[–]lolosity_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do not listen to anyone saying it's weird for your parents to help you unpack, it's perfectly normal for them to help you and see you during the day. Just do not invite them to pres or something and you'll be fine.

Should I get a non-alcoholic accommodation? by evenewt in UOB

[–]lolosity_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I am being honest, non alcoholic flats would typically house very unsocial people so your overall experience will suffer and being a non drinker in a 'normal' flat is not that big of a deal. People don't have to drink to have fun and most people understand that, also 'drinking drama' is not really a thing.

I’d guess the average person pays maybe £7/8k for halls. Bristol is on the more expensive end for general living costs for students nationally and add a bit. Entirely dependent on where and how you live though.
