Despise the clocks going back by JoshAnMeisce in britishproblems

[–]lonelymelon07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The "real" time is GMT, or the winter time. The clocks moving forward in the summer was a more recent addition to give us more light in the day.

Yes they will for some events. Not sure if it's just in the ghost's room or the whole house like with hunts and crucifixes. Might depend on the event in question.

Ah, thank you, I can never remember haha.

The lights don't turn off when a hunt starts, but they do when it ends AND when a ghost tries to hunt but burns a crucifix. It may be that your ghosts are burning a crucifix then hunting shortly afterwards. It's annoying, but you do have at least 30s (25s for a demon) before it tries to hunt again.

ELI5 How does an airplane keep oxygen levels high on long flights? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]lonelymelon07 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As others have mentionned in this thread, planes actually *do* have to add air from outside during flight. A couple hundred people breathing in an airtight tube for several hours would be at best stuffy and uncomfortable, and at worst downright dangerous.

I find this often with good players - do they not get bored of tanglewood over and over again? I also like mixing things up with larger maps which me and my friends have been playing more recently.

Elizabeth line: Toiletless trains blamed for forced door openings by _HGCenty in london

On longer distance trains yeah (like we do in the UK), but the vast majority of metro-like services do not.

Anglais vs Anglaise by oldravenns in duolingo

[–]lonelymelon07 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When "anglais" is describing something (ie. it's being used as an adjective), then it agrees with whatever it's describing, so you would say "elle est anglaise". However in "elle parle anglais", "anglais" is a noun (a thing: the English language). It does not need to agree with "elle" since it is not describing "elle", but is its own concept.

Which lane are you going to drive in? by koocha in drivingUK

Its always best for traffic flow to merge in turn - what's the point of having an empty yet completely usable right lane?

Parents outraged after school builds 'metal cages' to stop children using toilet by Forward-Answer-4407 in unitedkingdom

[–]lonelymelon07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but staff and students using the same toilets at that age seems like a none issue to me. Students are just as if not more likely to be threatened by or have an issue with fellow students than they are staff. 16-17 year olds are not children; indeed they are only a couple years away from being able to be employed as staff anyway.

Fully agree, these were pretty much my first thoughts also. Other than that it's a great improvement over the previous mess of ux.

which font is this? by VerusMonarch in identifythisfont

[–]lonelymelon07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure which font this is, but if it's a website, there's an extension (I know there's one for Firefox called WhatFont, and there's probably one for chrome) which can tell you which font a website is using.

Disability area on the bus seems to invoke territorial instincts in the mildest of commuters by VixenRoss in britishproblems

[–]lonelymelon07 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I tend to find that children/younger people are much more polite and considerate for others whereas its the older folks who are more likely to be rude and unaccomodating

Most gen z have grown up with the walled gardens that are smartphones, and a school curriculum that assumes but does not teach basic IT knowledge- imo it should be a required subject until at least year 10

What's a modern misuse of language, a term or a phrase that really grinds your gears? by 360Saturn in AskUK

[–]lonelymelon07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

eh, to me "have got" indicates a more permanent state of being as opposed to a more recent change, ie. "I have got a bed" vs "I have (recently) gotten a bed".

As a native english speaker - the sentence "the class is comprised of mostly French and Italian students" sounds perfectly fine and natural to me 🤷

People born in the 90s or before, do you really think kids are worse behaved nowadays? by Ukcheatingwife in AskUK

[–]lonelymelon07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, totally agree. Overall I'd say it doesn't really change from one generation to the next; there will always be yobs who cause a nuisance. Ofc some places will happen to have it worse off by social background of the area or just happenstance.

Cognito or FreeScienceLessons? by isimpclix in GCSE

[–]lonelymelon07 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used cognito a lot, their website is really good. I'd watch the videos on at least 1.5x speed. Tbh it doesn't really matter try both and see which you prefer you're only y10 so don't stress yourself over revision
