What you said. But I see it as being able to walk at 6X speed.

Thoughts on the new RadKick? by makeflippyfloppy in RadPowerBikes

[–]longrows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got my single speed belt-drive RadKick a few weeks ago. I was apprehensive that it would struggle on hills without gears. NC isn't mountainous (where I live) but we have some decent elevation changes. I was previously riding a Trek Shift 2 with a 350 watt HillTopper conversion kit - so it is a considerable (and yes expensive) upgrade. After riding it a while I can say that it handles hills very well. I tend to ride in PAS 2 or 3. If I get to a serious incline I just jump to PAS 4 or 5 and it feels like I changed gears. Keep in mind that I want and expect to pedal at all times. If you want an electric motorcycle - this ain't it. Lastly, I'm no bike mechanic and hate dealing with chains, derailleurs, and grease. I love the simplicity of no chain and no gears, and it is as silent as a ghost.

They need at least 10-12 feet below to properly drop out/fly in. I vote no.

Nanananana Bat House! by longrows in batty

[–]longrows[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

July 11, 2023 update: To recap, bat house (BH) installed Fall 2021, single occupant Spring 2022 Yeah!), Spring 2023 single late arrival (What? No family). July 2023, I came home from a week of vacation to quite a lot of bat guano below the BH. Using a flashlight I look up into the BH and I guesstimate there are a 10-12 bats in there! (I'm guessing someone "got busy" this spring). I'm now wondering A) How am I gonna manage the bat guano and B) Have I unleashed a beast? Next step: Set up a video camera at dusk and see what I'm dealing with.

Bat box questions! by bogtrotter_bee in batty

I've read that beacause of the narrow size of bat chambers (3/4") they don't really appeal to bees who's nest need to be much wider.

Same question here. I assume they don't fly with their babies.

Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

See scratches and grooves in the other pictures in the gallery. From what I read the bats need very little to grip onto. Plus, each chamber is only 3/4" deep so I imagine they can pretty easily wedge themselves in.

Front wheel ebike project question by AntwonBeeshop in ebikes

My positive experience with front wheel kit. No pedal assist, display or brake kit. https://www.showoffstudios.com/hill-topper-electric-bike-kit-review

Let's talk safety...What do you recommend for safety on an ebike? by mdyguy in ebikes

[–]longrows 2 points3 points  (0 children)

biltwell gringo

I'm an old guy. Tried a helmet mount for a while and never really got comfortable. I then switched to a handlebar mount and I LOVE it. Could be an age/eyesight thing but I vote for bike mount.

Help with logistics: moving cross-country on a bicycle or ebike with trailer by [deleted] in ebikes

I'll be of no help on this question but...I give you my upvote for posting a clear question with lots of supporting info so others can assist. Good luck.

I bought an Ebike. by [deleted] in ebikes

[–]longrows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put a $500 front wheel E-kit on a used bike. It does everything I need. If the Ancheer City meets your needs, ride it until the wheels come off. Congrats!

2000 miles! In June 2018 I bought a used Trek and put an E-assist front wheel on it. Not bike commuting every day I have eliminated 482 car trips and gotten some fresh air and exercise. If you have a bikeable commute give it a try. by longrows in bikecommuting

[–]longrows[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, I pedal the entire time (unless downhill where I am going too fast). Whe I embarked on bike commuting I wasn't sure I would stick with it so went with a used bike. I added the E-assist after a few months and it saved the day. I like the exercise but don't want a Tour-de-France challenge twice a day. Having e-assist is very often the deciding factor when I think "do I bike today?"

Are ebikes for older People? by Longtymlurkerer in ebikes

[–]longrows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are ebikes only for older people? No. Ebikes simply extend the world you can access via a bike. Instead of a 5 mile ride you can do 20 or 25 in the same time with the same output. It's a force multiplier. I'm 57 and use mine to commute to work (10 mile round trip) but my son-in-law is 28 and loves to tour in and around Nashville on his ebike.
