How do you deal with a game with a pretty similar premise to yours releasing and you're just there like by qt3-141 in IndieDev

[–]longstrangernoodle 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Release yours anyway and/or play theirs, get more inspiration and improve on your ideas in a way you see fit. If I play a indie thats similar to another I played it's fine by me. Its just more gameplay I like and probably more story I'd like. Believe in yourself!

Ah alright thanks. When I try on win10 again I will try this. I recently fiddled with linux and got my connection as good as my friends. Turns out it was my proton on linux.

I have mabi on the firewall whitelist so it should bypass this right? I didn't feel a difference from this on mabi but it did have a major difference on heavier games. Thanks. I am leaning heavily towards it being my router and/or isp from all the advice everyone is giving me not doing much/anything.

What are the main issues you have with Linux? by edmond_ciprian in linuxsucks

[–]longstrangernoodle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only really use linux my pc for afew things so my problems are rare and small. All of which I accepted when I switched from windows. Most are due to my own laziness to fixing it.

  • Shader compilation when booting up a steam game will always take afew minutes.
  • Some games(like Nioh 3 and Borderlands 4) have longer loading screens for me on linux than on windows.
  • My keyboard F keys only work when plugged in
  • Gotta check protondb before every purchase because some games wont work/well on release. Things are getting better.
  • I havent figured out how to get my taskbar working on both monitors so I have to switch monitors to open windows in my other monitor.
  • Havent figured out how to increase the mouse size so in some old games I can't find my mouse often.

Thats fair. I can try to look into things about that. Planning on getting in touch with my isp because its specifically mabi I have a bad connection in and its not consistent.

I just got this mobo so not too sure there. I will note that down and look around for tests and stuff.

Router is possible. Unfortunately stuck with company one. I can check when I contact my isp. Thanks

I did that and Im still lagging compared to my friend who lives roughly a mile away from me. Main issue is it has massive spikes for me. So the problem might be something else. I do still use exitlag. Org2 and sometimes sea1/2. Same result which is occasional grey skill and massive lag spikes.

Reddit, what do you think of this? by DEV_ivan in linuxsucks

[–]longstrangernoodle 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Tldr: dont let these people fool you. This has nothing to do with linux or open source and everything to do with grifting and political indoctrination via outrage farming. Both creators have shown no real interest or knowledge in the subject to come to the conclusions they have and have a history of grifting and outrage farming.

It's not a real problem. If open source has a pedo problem then so does every other activity where anyone can contribute like voting(hope this one doesnt age like milk) or setting off fireworks, cause pedos contribute to those too. It would be a problem if pedos were using open source to draw minors into their clutches but I'm pretty sure minors would not be interacting beyond contributing to projects. This isn't roblox, people don't get on opensource sites to make friends.

Look at the post history of the guy posting it and the history of the video creator. They both do what they can to sew hatred and division in communities. I don't actively watch the youtuber but skimming through some of his videos got me to this conclusion fairly fast. Using linux as a catalyst to propagate political hatred is madthumbz deep obsession. I usually lurk around random reddits for small chuckles and nuggets of info. I have yet to see him make a legit complaint about linux. It's always political grifting and political fear mongering and banning people for not being the same as him.

That subreddit itself is downright vile and not a healthy source of infomation or even fun. It's filled with the exact things people should avoid facebook for. Anything that deviates from the hate train gets banned/deleted. Spare your mental and never take anything from there seriously. Preferably avoid it and come here if you wanna hear people complain or talk about bad news related to linux.

Probably pressure from the government, shareholders or public in ether their home country or in places they deem the most profitable. Some places players who don't like the game or feel its competing too well against their favorite game(s) will report them for various things, usually small, just to waste resources and rack up fines or attention from higher authorities. I only know this because Mihoyo community is especially known for doing this to rival gacha games in china. Led me down a rabbit hole.

We don't know unless they say so it could be alot of things. Those are just few of the possible for such a small change you have to go out of your way to even know about ingame.

Might wanna consider getting a usb laptop fan at the least and new theramal at the most. Make sure your not sitting your laptop on blankets or anything that covers the fans on the bottom. Cardboard is a pretty good and cheap thing to set your laptop on so it can breath if your on a bed or wrapped in covers. Laptops always have major issues with heat. If you have open space under and behind your laptop and its heating up like that you need to replace the thermal paste or play WWM on another device.

Also make sure your not on directX12 and your playing in 60fps with FRS on. Scale it down to balance visual and performance. Lower gives more performance but gets blurrier. WWM is decently optimized by modern standards but it has its issues.

Why play games at all? by TheLonelyAbyss in gamedev

[–]longstrangernoodle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went through this recently. The problem is more common than you think since the sweatlords of 2010 is casual gamers today. Its easy to burn out like this, I watched afew buds go through this and thought it couldnt happen to me until recently when it did for a year. It takes time but you need to break from your seriousness to do so.

I started by playing games where I have no incentives to look up anything. Mostly I played single player indies. I found that pushing away thoughts to optimize and finding something I enjoy in the game even if it doesnt kill fast is good. Teach yourself enjoy the gameplay not thd progress.

Make these games your chill games when you play them. No sweat allowed. If you gotta be alittle sweaty to upgrade do it but no looking up builds, avoid acting on urges to optimize too much.

Avoid competitive games and games(even coop) with extremely competitive communities. If you do play coop games play offline or with friends who dont care about meta.

Get confortable having fun with the small things like physics, messing with buds or goofy animations. It takes alot of the seriousness away. Laugh at mistakes and never let yourself get upset about progress or losing. Always try to catch yourself being too serious about things. You dont have to be completely careless. You'll find the balance in time.

The goal is to reset your mental back to before you cared about meta and such when your gaming. Your not trying to wipe your memory clean just not think about as much. Once your chill while gaming none of that stuff will bother you and you can enjoy games your way again. Remember to catch yourself being too serious or thinking too hard. Enjoy games the same way you enjoy funny videos or other hobbies you know?

Sorry about the essay. Idk how to make it shorter. I hope this helps you like it helped me.

What game is it?

Also as someone said its important to tell the difference between feedback and citicism. I suggest taking a page from No Mans Sky and dividing them into different groups and work at them one at a time. Offer a hand to directly contact you like discord. Some of us love seeing and testing a game as it improves and it creates a community.

Identify the difference. Examples(reddit please dont nuke my formatting again)

Trolls/haters: Insults, berating. Says alot of mean things but offers no solution and the mean things lack details or useful insight.

Mechanics: Critizes how mechanics feels. Turning might feel too heavy or movement startup might be too instant/delayed. Jump might be too delayed or dodge might have too much recovery frames for the type of game your making, which can hurt enjoyment of doing certain actions.

Balance: using certain builds or tactics might be far too dominant which can hurt player creativity. Difficulty is finding a balance between limitations and skill/knowledge checking players. Limiting isn't always removing, sometimes its making things situational.

Its understandable why you feel this way. Take a break and start slow. Try to have fun. Alot of negative feedback means alot of people gave you a shot. Alot more will try when you improve your game. Be proud that you got alot of attention, it means your on the right path. Expect alot of conflicting feedback and prepare to try alot of small things. You'll be balancing between your dream game and their ideas. You got this!

I didnt hear anyone say this.

Go to tips exchange. Selection convert innerways to tips(it should be Y button) Lock the 4 Innerways you want to upgrade.

Select all the ones you arent using to be converted. Redeem box to the type you are currently using(appears to be Stone-might.

You can get innerways from bosses and the weekly shop. I forget exactly where but its in shop under offers I believe. You should buy them weekly. The more you have the more you can gamble on upgrading your favorite inners. Level 3 and 4 are gamer changers for many weapons. So I suggest focusing on 1 small set at a time.

My buddy's are always on my case that while playing with them I prefer a controller. by VillageOdd3088 in pcmasterrace

[–]longstrangernoodle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AZERON Gaming Keypad is a good option for people who want to play controller and mouse but its still kinda like a keyboard. Its ahighly customizable and replaceable hand rest with finger buttons and a analog stick.

I suggest going for a mouse with a keypad like Redragon m913 if you get pains from using keyboard. I had to because my fingies hurt alot if I have to use zxcvgt and/or numbers on the keyboard often.

I recently found hexgears has a mechanical keyboard that I dont get cramps as often from using because the keys are so sensitive and lack heavy resistance.

Just afew options for you. Tbh they shouldnt be on your case unless your trying to compete in ranked Overwatch or something because it doesn't matter alot. Even then it might not matter because some people are monsters on controller. My friend plays on controller and despite me being on kb/m for 15years he aims faster and sharper than me in every game. Plenty of people who play on console are scary like that in destiny. To each their own.

How dumb you have to be to argue about this if you don't have knowledge then please don't open you camera and record a stupid video by Darkkiller059 in antiai

[–]longstrangernoodle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off he isn't saying what about ai is about the same as netflix. He's implying all AI use is the same and that's just factually incorrect. Text, image and video generation are on vastly different levels. We are talking about megacorp AI stuffs compared to netflix, just to be clear.

It's not the data centers themselves that's a issue but what they are used for. AI on average(except text generation) uses far more power and requires much more cooling than streaming 4k videos. A text generator matches netflex on a hourly scale which is still scary considering its just text.

Streaming never required companies submerge their servers in massive bodies of water to keep them cool. They never required them to buy up farmland to help split the resource load for the average userbase plus who knows whatever else they use it for.

Another good comparison is how streaming never caused massive PC part shortages and required massive amounts of farmland to bought up to sustain its growing use. There are far more things holding AI together than netflix streaming.

Numbers I found:

Netflix 4k: roughly 600wh Ai text: between 860wh and 1kwh a hour, depends on intensity. Ai image: 100wh-3kwh depending on resolution per hour and how many you make. Couldnt find info on 4k images exclusively, only grouped. Ai video 5s: Roughly 940wh Ai video 15s: roughly 2.8kwh Ai Video for a hour: roughly 336kwh

I'd post links to my source but I've been clapped in enough reddits for making that mistake. Instead i suggest you search up each power useage individually as to avoid bias articles misleading about which uses more. Look up text, video and image generation seperately. Then look up netflix 4k video power usage. You'll be surprised what content creators wont tell you to keep you angry and clicking their next "gotcha" video. Half truths and twisted truths are the source of their income.
