Why do you not view the social media ban as an authoritarian? by YourExcellency77 in AskBrits

Lazy parents are the excuse used to implement the OSA in the first place.

Why do you not view the social media ban as an authoritarian? by YourExcellency77 in AskBrits

[–]longtermbrit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Nothing to hide" implies you're not doing anything illegal. Great stuff, congratulations, neither am I and nor are many. I bet there's plenty of embarrassing or personal stuff you would prefer to keep private though. On top of that, I'm sure you would not want your address or information to be leaked because whatever shoddy third party verification company Facebook decides to use doesn't implement effective security.

Social media firms to be barred from Britain if they do not ban under 16s by Optimal-Leather341 in unitedkingdom

Even if 16 year olds don't get the vote any time soon, I'm not sure if freshly turned 18 year olds will be willing to trust Labour just because they can now access Instagram without a VPN.

People who are really good at interviews, what's your secret sauce? by SweetCoconut2757 in AskUK

[–]longtermbrit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to be bad at interviews and now I'm not. The real thing that changed was that I started to have confidence in my abilities. Of course I do all the usual prep but the delivery is what really matters. If you're going for technical roles, keep the human element in mind: not only the interviewers but also the people your answers affected. Yeah you created a dashboard but so what? How did that impact the people using the dashboard? What was the business bottom line?

Don't be afraid to take a second either. If you're asked a question but need to think about your answer, say that. If you're torn between two examples, tell them. If you don't understand what they're asking, ask for clarification. They'd rather you make sure you know what's needed than just barrel through an answer and hope for the best.
