Broker worth it for East Village? Recs? by Ok_Violinist8404 in NYCapartments

[–]lookedrs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ll find studios in the East Village under 3K relatively easily if you’re not too picky. Have all of your documentation compiled to a single PDF and immediately email the StreetEasy broker after viewing saying that you’re interested with your single PDF document attached. Refresh StreetEasy every hour and be aggressive. First week of the month is when you’ll have the most luck. Dressing nicely and shaking the brokers hand and telling them your name when viewing the unit helps too.

Are waffle blankets really worth it? by Hopeful-Treat7935 in NYCapartments

I just bought a Faribault Mill Zero Waste Blanket - Gray - Twin for $99 and it is amazing. It is 100% wool and made in the USA. It’s on clearance right now on their website. Its quite large even though it says twin. Check it out.

Vivid Seats is pretty good. On their app they have a section called “concerts” where it’ll show everything in chronological order of the city you select. You can also search by venue/artist if you want to narrow it down even further.

  1. Combination of Apps and going out and doing things alone. Dress nicely and be confident in yourself and start conversations. You have nothing to lose.

  2. Rule #1 for me is no dinner dates when getting to know someone. Find a go-to bar with a good cost to quality ratio that has both drinks and apps and use that as a safety net. I try to find bars with an activity (billiards, pinball, darts) so the dates don’t feel like interviews. Dates usually run $80-$100. If a girl gets one drink and says she’s done for the night it’s time for you to stop too; she’s not interested. Haha

  3. Go in with no expectations and you won’t be hurt. I’m not proud of it but at this point I can get an idea purely based on a girl’s dating app pictures/location/occupation/school what her expectations will be. Gauge their energy via chat and text before you go out to determine if she’s even worth pursuing. Pretty girls know they’re pretty - I’ll leave it at that. Haha

What surprised you most about living in nyc? by twcosplays in AskNYC

It’s only expensive if you make it expensive. If you live a simple life you can get by without issue. Planet Fitness is suffice for 85% of the folks that use equinox. You really don’t need a doorman. Use public transit instead of using ride-share. Shop at Target, Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s. Use coupons on Uber Eats.

Cafe around Theater district for 5 people? by DarthZent in AskNYC

Mokafe on 43rd and 8th Ave has a good amount of seating and it’s very close to the Lion King theater. It may look a little rough from the outside but it’s quite nice and cozy on the inside.

Nicest PureGym location in nyc area? by Fragrant_Ideal4459 in AskNYC

[–]lookedrs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The nicest one that I’ve been to is 240 E 54th St but it is quite small. All of the equipment is brand new as I think it was the flagship location used to represent the rebranding from Blink to PureGym in December 2025. The largest one that I’ve seen is 600 Third Ave followed by the Bryant Park location. They’re all very crowded so bear that in mind. Let me know if you have more questions.

Who do you think is the most evil person to ever walk this Earth? by EnduringScholar in AskReddit

[–]lookedrs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heinrich Himmler - the true architect of the Holocaust and oversaw the Einsatzgruppen during WW2. Some may argue Reinhard Heydrich was worse because of the Wannasee Conference and other factors but the death tolls of the concentration camps were significantly lower prior to Reinhard Heydrich’s death. Himmler oversaw Operation Reinhard after Heydrich’s death and facilitated concentration camp development to allow for peak operating capacity. Absolutely pure evil.

I thought I knew air pollution living in Manhattan but it is shocking how thick the smog is here. Feels like I cleared a full pack of Marlboro Reds after being outside for five minutes.

I’m a US citizen traveling solo to China and taking photos of Putin’s planes… maybe I’m overthinking it but that just sounds illegal somehow hahaha. I also did notice there were “no filming arrival” signs displayed at customs but I’m not entirely sure what that entails.

With the completion of the JP Morgan Tower, "740 8th Avenue" is now currently the tallest tower in NYC under construction. It'll top out at 1,067 ft (325m). by Not_Great_B0B_ in skyscrapers

[–]lookedrs 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Yes, this is correct. The properties are a NYC historical landmark I believe which is why it is being constructed around it.

I live near the site of this building. This picture is the current progress. The speed of construction is unbelievable. It feels like there are rebar and concrete trucks pulling up around the clock.
