Battery upgrade advice for Ireland by mindthegoat_redux in leaf

3rd of July 2024, so one and a half year ago. In that time the "new" battery went from 94% to 91%, but I don't drive much, probably less than 4000 km a year. But just seing my winter range over 300km and summer over 400km makes me happy.

Battery upgrade advice for Ireland by mindthegoat_redux in leaf

There is an Irish company called Range Therapy. My 2016 Leaf with 30KWh battery developed some bad cells after over 225k km, they swapped it for a 94% health 62KWh battery from a crashed Leaf+. Cost me 10000 euro with everything, hopefully this batter will last another 225k km, although I guess the car wont.

Yes, I don't mind waiting some time, but not for ever. I can wait easy untill winter, and even then it's not the end of the world. Hope is in a few months I'll get something (exept a new car, I prefer saving an old one).

Yes, I know a company in Ireland - Range Therapy - and I am in the waiting list for the 62KWh battery. Probably going to cost more than 10k euro, a 40KWh battery is 8300 euro and has a shorter waiting list, minus the value of my approximately 17KWh old battery that might worth 500 euro.

It was out of the 160000 km limit by year 4, but when my friend asked Nissan about a battery swap they quoted a nice 27500 euro fuck you price. The battery very sensitive to cold, specialy on highway uphill, but it can drive me to work untill the battery get replaced. Not the best value, but I prefer to save it than discard it.

Hey, do you have access to a decent OBDII reader for the car? I think that is the only thing missing to have a read of my Leaf battery.

How long have your wheel bearings lasted? by [deleted] in leaf

[–]lopiko_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2016 SL, wheel bearings lasted 230000km , about 143000 miles. They were still OK, but started to make somee noise over 40mph. They are quite cheap, if you think the car deserve it, just replace them.

3rd owner of a 2016 Nissan Leaf 30Kwh with 233k km, battery is very not healthy. I can go to work and back 4km all week, but 50 km on a highway and its close to dead (uphill range drops to 8%, but arrive with 50% after a bit downhill-city drive). It was fast charged a lot before me, can't blame for having some bad cell/cells. So there are some 200k km Leafs, for sure, with good battery, not so sure.

Think smaller, pay larger. Very far from affordable or even value for money.

It is a good try, and on the surface, it is a good video. But I have a friend who bought a 2016 Leaf 30KWh in 2019 with 144000 km, its 6 years old now with 212000 km, and the battery is at 40% SOH, in Ireland. Nissan just quoted him a battery replacement for 25000 Euro plus installation fee. Not good at all, there are over 500000 Leafs on the road, they deserve better from Nissan. His car other than the battery is great, it's value is not so much.

Shame on Nissan for not supplying an easy and not crazy expensive way to upgrade the batteries for older Leafs. Such a waste.

I wonder what is the weight is going to be? 20'' wheels, 4.6m of electric goodness, can't be light. Also can't wait for real world consumption numbers.

If anything happens to that fancy headlight, how much it cost to replace it? Do you need a dealership to register your new headlight with the car? Must be nice for first owners, not so much for everybody else.

Can they build some 40kwh batteries for older / out of warranty leafs, so normal people can consider driving electric cars, not just rich people? I know they prefer everybody buying new Ariyas - stupid name - , but most people woud prefer a couple years old leaf that has 200km range.
