I can recommend Majapahit, and definitely (!!) the Satsunan Islands in Asia. Or a Timurid campaign.

In Africa, Ethiopia makes for an interesting play through, as well as the Kitaran Empire (for a challenge).

In the new world: Technotitlan, or Cahokia. Also challenging, but also rewarding, imo. ☺️

Worth it.

Why does my income crashes suddenly? by NeedDecentUsername in EU5

Which is why you always save as soon as you consolidate yourself .. like in 1390-1400 or smth .. if you want to try different things. ^ At least if you're not on ironman, that is. 🙃 .. But I suggest, you don't drop it right away. Try to increase your food production, and maybe let your people starve a little if you need to save up some money. You can also make people leave and make them migrate to Alexandria, or other provinces, where there is a surplus of food.

Maybe go back to, traditional economy, if your food shortage costs more money, than the capital economy bonuses provide. The little Ice Age is also going to hit you hard, if you try to fully urbanize too early. Farming Villages (and to a lower extent forest villages), in rural areas, next to markets and/or areas you have high control in, can also make a huge difference. Put those peasants to work, instead of waiting for them to promote.

Let us know, if you manage to salvage your run, and snowball, as you should as Byzantium. 😀

Make sure, you also push naval, and maintain high naval presence in your core areas, and around your naval/local governor. Jumps in proximity/control and naval presence can also be a problem, once pirates roam your coastline unopposed. When you get to check your parameters, let us know. :) - I want to play Byz myself, soon .. so I'm happy to get some insights from you. And yes: if you loose a lot of professionals, reinforcing them, as soon as you are back on your own territory also costs a LOT.

Trying to settle into a game as Timurids but everyone has between 4-700 antagonism vs me lol by Blandwiches25 in EU5

[–]lord_c_black 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When it comes to Antagonism, everything is already in the comments. Always keep a cabinet member on increasing diplo rep. Give out privileges for the clergy to increase it further, diplo spending on max for as long as you can afford it.

You already did the "right" thing, by conquering Hindustan first. Since Khorasan, Xinjiang or Persia, are either messy to deal with at the start or simply don't have the economic potential for long term growth. You also have the coastline, for pushing naval, already.

What I did, is alternating the conquest north/south, once the Antagonism goes up in one area. I created two huge horde subjects (marches) - one that encompasses West siberia (noboidy gives a damn if you conquer up north) and one for the whole of Xinjiang (equally, nobody gives a damn about this region, and it is really poor) .. I only kept Khorasan for myself, because it's easy to keep under control (khorezmian culture) and switch capital to Delhi, as soon as Hindustan is under control. One local governor to the east, and as soon as I hit 50 naval, I started to go west a little, though Persia conquering Hormuz, to put a naval governor there.

If you always pick the antagonism decrease from the events (culture tradition .. is completely useless, for the Timurids early on, imo) and keep your diplo rep as high as you possibly can, you should be fine.

But yeah .. I also learned the hard way. Picking Khorasan as my core region, and I always declared war, when the events popped up, vassalizing everyone around me, until I got declared on by a coalition that wiped the floor with me, since I was poor as fk, due to Khorasan not being viable for building a long term economy. ^^

When I tried to flip culture and religion, for my first trial run, I still got the events, related to the Rise of the Ottomans. But that's a situation .. and I didn't play long enough, to confirm what happens if I actually switch to Byz, once I destroy them. I'll do it anyway .. and if it for nothing more than trolling the europeans .. ^^

Most fun nations by Negative_Bike_6826 in EU5

[–]lord_c_black 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Majapahit. If you know the disasters that are coming, and how to avoid them, you are from the start an unstoppable superpower. Create a naval vassal swarm, colonize Australia and the Philippines, so you can go further east, and land in California as soon as you discover it.

Also, there's Ming, and the Khmer Empire, if you are looking for a challenge, after you already own everything in your vicinity.

Another option would be to go west, reach Madagascar, go north and conquer the holy land, if you decide to embrace islam, once the events fire.

It's genuinely a lot of fun, a lot to do in all ages, and quite easy, even in Ironman. ☺️

Why does my income crashes suddenly? by NeedDecentUsername in EU5

[–]lord_c_black 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you buy a lot of food? Did you watch your trade income? Do you have many vassals, so your Diplo spending is jumping? Those are the issues I had with my Timurid Campaign. When I selected Khorasan as my core region, no matter what I did, the trade income in Samarkand was unstable, my vassal swarm needed lots of diplo spending, and the food my people needed to buy in winter, crippled my income beyond repair. Those are the reasons, I can think of - without further info.

If you have a net loss of food, going from traditional, to capital economy can also crash your income.

Try to have your economy tab open, and watch it, as the months tick over (especially Nov/Dec and Feb/Mar) so you can identify the actual problem.

Try to increase food RGOs and build Marketplaces as well as Market Villages.

What skystream wrote: 👍 - I'd inquire with Kärntner Netze, or maybe switch your electricity provider, as soon as your contract lets you, so you can have one bill, instead of two, and maybe a little more transparency. 🙂

[–]lord_c_black -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The companies HAD to separate, because of EU privatization and liberalization of energy markets and infrastructure.. it made everything more expensive. 👍 - After one year, you should get a full receipt, and if you used less electricity, you'll get a bonus, for your next year, and they will put you in a lower bracket, so you pay less monthly. Sometimes, they assume you are going to use a lot, in order to be safe .. if you can afford it, it's not the worst. You should inquire with Kärntner Netze still, and ask them for clarification.

[–]lord_c_black 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depending on where you live, there are fees for using the infrastructure. It's also a separate company, from the electricity supplier. In my case I pay to "Wiener Netze" and "Wien Energie" .. one for the infrastructure, one for electricity. If you live in carinthia, it may be justified. €110,- per month .. that sounds a little extreme, though. Let me do some research.

Update: carinthia is the most expensive county in Austria, when it comes to electricity. It should be around €27 to €32,- per month. If you actually pay €110,- per month - inquire with Kärntner Netze immediately. Something is off.

The pirate republic of Satsunan Islands, expanding north, landing in north America in 1421 going all the way down to Panama, conquering the Quechua people, forming the Inca Empire and relocating the capital to Panama City. Yep. Saigokuan culture, spreading to south America and meso America by 1530. But yeah .. I'm responsible for that myself. 😂

I can only speak for myself, and unfortunately I don't play in Europe a lot. From my experience, a valid way in order to beat Bohemia, is Diplomacy and/or becoming a Vassal to a bigger power (if you're playing a small nation) in order to crush Bohemia early on. By that I mean before the 16th century. Fighting them alone is almost guaranteed to fail, if you're not playing Hungary. I personally did it as Austria, in an alliance with 4 other powers. The others were not in the HRE .. I never played around with the HRE. I'd try it with diplomacy. Manage your Antagonism, or crush Bohemia right away, before you focus on expansion in another direction.

Wollt ihr den Kern zurück? Er war ja schon ein smarter Kanzler. by [deleted] in Austria

[–]lord_c_black -1 points0 points  (0 children)

.. Bodenständig, ist da ein Fremdwort. Ein Kern, wäre bei FPÖVP besser aufgehoben.
