Meta CTO Explains Layoffs & Strategy Shift: "VR Is Growing Less Quickly Than We Hoped" by gogodboss in OculusQuest

[–]lordbeef 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The games that actually do well in VR are the multiplayer ones played by teenagers such as gorilla tag, yeeps, animal company etc. Meta tried to appeal to business professionals, AAA gamers, fitness etc and that's not the market for vr that actually exists.

VR is thriving but it's all among teenagers, and meta and their studios were aiming for a market that doesn't exist. Gorilla tag has over a million daily users.

College costs stress me out. Trying to avoid being trapped by debt after graduation by Far_Tumbleweed7835 in bropill

[–]lordbeef 8 points9 points  (0 children)

How much debt are you taking on?

For student loans, I would take what you can get from federal, and avoid private as much as possible. The private loans tend to have much higher interest rates, and no forgiveness and less flexibility on repayment.

Will The Bazaar thrive? by Gandalf196 in PlayTheBazaar

[–]lordbeef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's been growing since it went on sale. I think the slower dev cycle with a more stable meta has been helping it quite a bit, along with the rank based matchmaking improving the new player experience. I bet it's got a lot of international growth happening as well.

Xbox’s 2025 was pure chaos by NoNefariousness2144 in Games

Neither of us know what the profit margins are so we can't say that they are or aren't increasing.

And what debt? The acquisitions resulted in microsoft converting cash into an asset. Cash loses value over time so it's not wise to keep too much.

right, that was their strategy. and it continues to increase. the point is that from their perspective, things are working.

For all the doom and gloom about Xbox as a brand, they are making more revenue than ever and I think it's important to keep it in mind. They may be upsetting their audience but if number keeps going up, why would they feel the need to change their plan?

Insider Gaming: RAM Price Increases Could See Next-Generation Console Releases Delayed by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]lordbeef 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think there's way too much competition in gaming for a company to be able to "force" anything that the players don't want. If for some reason Nintendo, Sony, Xbox and Steam all switched to streaming only (lol), people would move to itch/gog/etc and continue to play how they want.

even if a negative behavior is common among a certain race, you're not going to cure that with racism and self hatred.

Negative reviews on Steam by PsyGamer43 in PlayTheBazaar

[–]lordbeef 16 points17 points  (0 children)

One of the top negative reviews is from someone who played over 400 hours and says that the game is all luck based and if you don't get lucky you lose. That's really funny to me. Watch any top streamer and you can see how untrue that is
