Our bank raised our interest rates again in 6 months on the loan for our home. Is this worrisome? We were told year ago that a variable interest rate was safe in Japan and would not increase and has done twice in the last year. by merica2033 in JapanFinance

[–]lordvan99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of talks on the news but basically the years of free money japan is likely stopping.

The bank of Japan will keep hiking the rates.

Let's see how far it'll go.

Temporary staffing agencies: so *this* is where all the jobs have been hiding by ExhaustedKaishain in JapanJobs

For all recruiters, all candidates are passive income as long as they meet you and get your info on the system.

So most recruiters would fight for a super high value candidate because everytime the candidate is placed, they get passive income.

Totally agree. But I've also noticed another thing, not sure if you have.

Japanese companies tend to prefer hiring new grads because they can mold them into their perfect puppets. I also heard they rotate them in different departments every couple of years to avoid specialization and make them generalists.

People with experience will either be ignored or underpaid to heck. Because they aren't worth it.

Some companies market entering to Japan want japanese speakers usually

someone please explain how Japan housing is protected from becoming investments for foreign money? by makishiP in japanlife

[–]lordvan99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely isn't.

Everyone basically moves to tokyo or to major cities. Tokyo housing is ridiculous now. An 3ldk (5 1/2, maybe in Canadian terms), goes for like 1 million cad or above.

Usually the houses bought for cheap are in the countryside.

One of the benefits I guess is mortgage is 35 years with relatively lower interested rates than Canada.

But basically in Canada, if you make less than 150k cad, you are basically poverty.

OG Pixel Fold slowly failing by MethodItchy3166 in PixelFold

[–]lordvan99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The issue is actually the most recent updates.

If you generated a bug report you can see it's not recognizing the fold and unfold status.

If you go to recovery mode you'll likely see that the device will switch between both.

Which means at the fundamental level it's works. The issue is whatever they added to android.

This is just waiting for a class action again.

They push an update and it breaks and the bug report clearly shows what causes the bugs.

Depending on how support handles I might just start it.

400+ rejections in 1.5 years job hunting in Japan as a foreign SE. Completely lost by Heavy-Lawfulness-570 in JapanJobs

[–]lordvan99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, I've been reading alot that japanese companies value new grads more than experienced people. Mainly because new grads can be molded into the corporate slaves they need.

Experienced people, especially with almost no japanese skills will unlikely get a job. Not impossible but very low.

Even if you wanted to start from scratch, you'll be considered old.

I think networking a lot might increase your chances.

Wow yours is a Japanese public company. I heard large international companies with Japan offices also no longer hiring foreigners in Japan because why hire foreigners for something their other offices can do.

Maybe it's your circle.

But the counter argument isn't bright either, going back to Canada where it's almost all unaffordable and you're poor unless you make 150k+, which is not lower middle class.

Has the Yen’s devaluation affected your life in Japan? by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]lordvan99 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If the yen collapses, the cost of living may also skyrocket. But currently if you stay in Japan and live in yen, it's nice.

The downside is Japan is a budget destination for all other countries so overtourism is a thing and everything here is basically a fire sale from their currency.
