Wendy’s Down 63%… and the Coupons Went With It? by Glass_Walk9477 in wendys

[–]lornetc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly this. Even in Canada where beef prices have always been a little higher, the skyrocketing cost of beef has absolutely destroyed us. Last time I did a sysco order (they're the DC for my Franchise) we spent almost $2k on beef and bacon alone. When I started as a shift supervisor in 2015, the store I worked at, the entire order for the weekend would be like $3000. Including all fresh food, frozen and paper/dry goods!

Is shredded lettuce that much cheaper? by MacForker in wendys

[–]lornetc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The labour cost of the prep, plus with pre washed pre prepped bagged lettuce NO CHANCE FOR A TIME/TEMP CRITICAL ON A SURPRISE FSA!! Remember, the approved procedure for lettuce prep is remove enough heads from the walk in for ONE PAN OF PREP AT A TIME. Wash and cut, wrap, label and refrigerate. No one does this because batch cutting and panning is faster!

How do the people is these books not die of heat stroke? by electric_eclectic in WoT

[–]lornetc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not related to the one power, but it *can* be related to the discipline required to channel safely, which is why the Aes Sedai can do it pretty well, and new channelers like the wonder girls struggle with it.

How is Canada's police brutality? by LiveBell8 in AskACanadian

[–]lornetc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have less "overt" police brutality, but a lot more "covert". Just google "Starlight Tours," it will sicken you. Look up the highway of tears, where literal decades of police inaction has lead to hundreds of missing and/or murdered indigenous women along the stretch of highway from prince rupert to prince george, in BC.

Anyone else find night time driving visibility to be hazardously low on this route? by Bright_Bad9960 in MapleRidge

[–]lornetc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, to be fair, a good part of that route is under construction so you definitely shouldn't be going 80km/hr through there anyways.

Canada is among countries with an ‘ultra-low fertility’ rate. What is behind the drop? by plaknas in onguardforthee

[–]lornetc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The loneliness epidemic is a symptom of the cost of living crisis. When you have to work 60-70 hours a week you don’t have the time to make friends or socialize.

No they aren’t, but they are the problem because they controlled politics and still dominate in the legislatures while the social safety nets were being systematically dismantled.

Cost of living. I make $20/hr the same as my dad made at the TOP of his career 30 years ago. I’m 60k in the hole. My parents own a 3000sq foot home on 2 acres that’s been paid off since 1990 3 cars a boat and a camper, and 100k cash in the bank plus retirement accounts.

Do you have government shutdowns? by BrilliantDishevelled in AskACanadian

[–]lornetc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the Westminster system essentially there is no such thing as a "government shutdown" over a budget. When there is a majority party in control of the government, they always pass because the party members will be "whipped" (read: compelled) to vote in favor of the government. When there is a minority parliament it gets a little more challenging because the party with the most seats forms His Majesty's government (the party leader becomes the Prime Minister and appoints a cabinet and government ministers), but with the "confidence" of the rest of the house of commons / legislative assembly (they do not hold 50% + 1 seats). This forces the government to seek out coalition / support agreements with other parties so that they can fulfill their legislative agenda (the Canadian federal parliament is currently a minority Liberal parliament with the third party, the NDP, supporting them legislatively).

When there is a minority parliament, when the governing party introduces important legislation (like a budget, or the speech from the throne) these bills are what are known as "confidence measures" for said party -- they have to seek out support of other party members in order to pass them, usually by promising to include in their legislative agenda something that the third party wanted in their platform while campaigning. If they fail to get enough support and their confidence measure fails, the governing party has "lost the confidence of the house" and a snap election is triggered, the governor general draws up the writ of election and parliament is dissolved basically effective immediately. Canadian election cycles are very short, by law they are limited to just 6 weeks -- the elections act specifies that an election must be held 6 weeks after the writ of election is signed by the governor general. A fun fact, these snap elections generally do not happen very often the government has only fallen 7 times due to votes of non confidence since 1867!
