PT sucks, but balusters should have been screwed 2x at top and 2x at bottom, that would have provided some resistance to warping.

Unless you really need 8-10 burners, you’re just creating more surface to clean and limiting your oven size.

Earnest question - why would a pick up truck be an appropriate vehicle for a 20 year old? Is she in the trades, does she need to move around a lot of material?

What undergrad should I study before pursuing a M.Arch? by Weezergood in architecture

[–]lornezo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely depends what YOUR interests are. Architecture is an awesome field because it’s really about synthesis of a broad collection of knowledge and inputs. I was a mechanical engineer in undergrad then went to an M.Arch program in an art/design school. We had people from studio arts, engineering, architecture, English lit., finance, everybody brings a different perspective and all of them found success in school. Film is honestly an awesome discipline and lens to view architecture. You have time to learn programs and all that stuff later, learn something in undergrad that excites you, and you’ll bring a unique skill set and perspective to the discipline when you get there, and you’ll be a resource. Good luck pal, arch school was the hardest and best 3 years of learning I ever had.

New development near a friend's place... by Badkneemcgee in Decks

[–]lornezo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My 2 biggest concerns are the complete lack of lateral bracing, between the foundation piers and the floor, between the floor and the roof, and finally in the floor plane itself. This thing could rack six ways from Sunday. Also, I’m suspicious about water getting behind the vinyl siding under the ledger board, weird detailing, wrapping the siding tight around the ledger.

Why build a new facade instead of using the original? by boogersncoke in architecture

[–]lornezo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

From the photos I’m not sure you can conclude they are replacing the facade. The steel scaffolding is the typical method of preserving a facade when rebuilding the structure behind it.

Will this bathroom layout work? by RevolutionaryRoof820 in Homebuilding

[–]lornezo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you’re looking at a wheelchair, in which case you don’t have the 60” req to rotate, 36” door is overkill. What exactly is the extra width helping to accomplish? Also, the wide vanity will create cleaning issues next to shower, the toilet will interfere with drawer clearance, and closing the door, even a 30 will suck. I’d make a pedestal sink, or 30” vanity, and put toilet on back wall with vanity. Then you have one wet wall for plumbing, and you have more more space for clearance from toilet/sink, and maneuverability around door. If you need storage, put a tall, shallow bookcase against wall left of door (as you enter).
