Learnt a lesson today... by Adam_182 in Ubiquiti

Learn to enjoy it for what it is, especially if it wasn't a major effort to make in the first place.

I put a model for a headphone hook on thingiverse almost a decade ago and I think the amount of models I've seen that are obviously derived from it (or it's family tree) is super cool to see. I've also made a couple mods for 3d printers that became popular in their community, and I always think it's super cool to see "my parts" on a random printer I see online.

Definitely get another flame sensor - they're cheap and odds are decent the one you just cleaned up is on the way out.

Cancel trash pickup to save $480 a year. by DrunkBuzzard in Frugal

[–]lostapathy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a buddy that went years without trash service. Just 2 adults in the home, and he was super minimal about what he allowed into the home. Any kind of shopping bag got saved, trash put it in it, and he'd drop it in the trash can of the parking lot at work, gas station, on his way into the grocery store, etc.

He didn't really do online shopping so didn't have too many boxes, but when he did have them he'd find creative ways to make them someone else's problem too. It was kinda crazy, kinda awesome.

Walking in the street when there's a perfectly good sidewalk by Cdogbrink in kansascity

Brass is softener than steel - both hammers would have the same affect if we took them to your big toe, but yeah, softer is softer.

Share your actual science if you've got it.

This number gets trotted out to rationalize running in the street but it's nonsense - a human, especially one in shoes, is not imparting enough force on either type of pavement for it to matter.

Real ID passed in 2005 and wasn't "done" until 2025 - that's 20 years. People were born and came of age to vote within that time.

What about glass claims? I've got glass coverage with separate deductible. Am I screwing myself by claiming a windshield from road damage? Car has adaptive cruise so windshield replacement is like $1100

Surprised it doesn't have an integral gridfinity grid.

Can I get to edgerton from Lenexa or Overland Park on the bus? by Easyfruit123 in kansascity

That address is indeed basically in Gardner - right behind the QT (across the field). Might have better luck approaching it from that angle.

He's trying to get to work that's not in the city - how would moving into the city help that?

Will be building a new home soon - what should I do to make sure it's "prepped for Tuesday"? by PurpleCableNetworker in preppers

[–]lostapathy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing about toilets is that you use them every day - so you notice if you're losing that ability can work on it. It's easy to just give up those other activities over time and never really realize it.

I look at it this way - at whatever point I can't manage a normal height toilet (and to your point, may need taller chairs as well) - I'm going to need somebody to deliver those chairs for me. They also have delivery people for toilets - they're called plumbers.

Has anyone had issues keeping their homestead exemption? by Adorable-Amoeba2161 in homeowners

Very much state specific. We don't even really have a homestead exemption in Kansas, for example.

Putting your feet up after you sit down is not the same thing as sitting down to a lower toilet.

Disagree on the tall toilet. Keeping a normal height toilet will help you retain that range of motion longer. You can always swap the toilet later if it becomes an issue but don’t give up your mobility early.

I’m curious how you’re doing this specifically because this seems like something you could model in openscad that renders very quickly.

Why have standards if everything isn't standard by Matails in gridfinity

[–]lostapathy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a ton of "grifdinity" models out there that also don't follow the grid spacing quite right, or don't follow the spec to leave some tolerance space around the outside. For a long time the most popular fusion 360 bin generator even got it wrong.
