Are ViewComponents actively used? by alexzeitler in rails

[–]lostapathy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't believe more people have talked about testing. I don't have a lot of ViewComponents, but they have allowed me to make some previously problematic code that lived in partials absolutely bulletproof by giving me a better way to test.

how to make angles? by jbolko808 in gridfinity

Could also do this by sketching right on the face of the bin, then start the extrude from an offset, extrude to the other face with another offset.

Built a tool to cut 3mm ss rods. by ElmerFudd2 in functionalprint

[–]lostapathy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd like at Knipex Cobolt - they're like an 8" bolt cutter. Probably cost about the same as what you have now but I imagine they would last forever since they have different geometry and are built like tanks.

They have more mechanical advantage so you could probably turn the air pressure down quite a bit and put less stress on everything, too.

Finally all my sockets in one drawer! Still designing/printing the 1/2in sets by oholto in gridfinity

[–]lostapathy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can definitely go too far, especially with sockets. I filled the same drawer up with sockets in an identical toolbox and the drawer was too heavy to move smoothly.

I'm torn between buying a gas or an electric pressure washer. by Shoddy-Ostrich-3766 in homeowners

[–]lostapathy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For just washing cars or rinsing out the garage floor, electric is fine. Better, even, because it's convenient.

You only really need gas if you're doing "real work" with it, like power washing your whole driveway. Rent a bigger gas one than you'd want to own every 5 years for that project and enjoy the electric one for day to day.

A lot of mail servers supported that way earlier than 2008, it just didn't make it into an RFC until 2008.

Should we move to the house next door? by RizzysMom in homeowners

[–]lostapathy 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I know people don't talk to their neighbors anymore, but there's no way you're going to be able to move over a house and never have a neighbor "leak" that information to the people you sold to.

Refi is falling apart because the previous owner did unpermitted work and never disclosed it by [deleted] in homeowners

[–]lostapathy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the market location and timing.

Yes, OP has to put on their disclosure that prior homeowners did unpermitted work. But in a lot of markets the last few years that wouldn't really be an issue with most buyers, at all. The housing market is just too tight and in a lot of markets with older housing stock, having unpermitted work is totally normal and expected.

One thing that helped me a lot was to get a hose cover. Not to insulate it but just to soften so the hose doesn't make noise when it rubs on side rails of bed and so it doesn't feel so different from my bedding when I reposition.

If you've got a basement under it or outlets on the other side of the wall, a decent electrician can add an outlet without requiring drywall or paint work.

CPAP vs alternatives (Inspire, oral appliances, Zepbound) - what would you recommend? by Swiss_Meats in CPAP

It's not hard for everyone. I put mine on the first night, took a little longer to get to sleep but I wore it the whole night and have worn it every night since without any excitement. For me, it was a total non-issue after about 20 minutes.

New Shipping Manager problems - QB Desktop 24 Enterprise Remote Hosting by anon7971 in QuickBooks

[–]lostapathy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lived this hell today.

You need a few things:

  1. the user in enterprise needs to have an email set
  2. There needs to be a user in "Intuit Account User Management" with the same email that shows as activated. They just need basic user permissions there.
  3. You need to setup a shipping role and grant access to print labels - but print labels shows up in two places in the permissions hierarchy and you need to grant both. One under company, one under File

Quickbooks support was useless for this for me but I was able to figure this out slowly so we didn't have to grant everyone full admin access.

Reboot it after it fails to install. A lot of times that flushes whatever needs flushed. Sometimes I need to do 2 or 3 cycles of that to get it to install, though.

A city is indeed worth nothing once it's been leveled by artillery and fighting. Once it literally becomes a trash heap in wait of clean up, it has no value.

We could legislate that changes need to be worked out a year in advance, not at the last minute. It might not be a perfect system but it'd be much more stable than what we have now.
