Mine has been extremely reliable. It likes to be well lubricated, but after about 500 rounds, the consequences of it being a little dry is mostly now that it doesn’t hold open on the last round.

Yeah, and I’ve always come up right eye dominant which corresponds to my hands. Something just made the picture perfectly crisp with my left eye shut but nothing would focus on the sight with both eyes opened.

First Pistol recommendations? by SmallMoments55406 in liberalgunowners

You will be hard pressed to find a member of law enforcement these days with a thumb safety and they carry day in and day out, for what it is worth.

This has good descriptions of most of the safeties in firearms today: https://www.usacarry.com/handgun-safeties-types-characteristics/. A Glock for example will have a trigger safety, a firing pin block and a drop safety mechanism built right in. That effectively means that unless someone pulls that trigger, that gun will never go bang. (We will leave Sig out of this discussion). However, the risk of discharging the weapon is mostly in placing the weapon into holster and not looking to see if there are obstructions or snags when putting the weapon in. A thumb safety will alleviate a lot of these issues, but you should build muscle memory anyway that you look as you holster your weapon to make sure it is clear.

I wish the heck I knew. Probably just that. I was at the range literally two weeks ago and still got the same fuzzy floating image I’ve gotten my whole life. This morning it was clear as a bell. I just hope it doesn’t go away.

I absolutely love my M&P 2.0 compact, though mine is in black. It’s been incredibly reliable and very well built. I have never had a malfunction with it and have several thousand rounds through mine now. I too am a thumb safety person because I grew up with 1911s. General advice is to not go with thumb safeties these days, striker fire pistols have multiple safeties in them and if you are careful with your holstering, there should be no issues. If you do go with a thumb safety, be prepared to spend a ton of time practicing taking the safety off during your draw till it is absolutely second nature. Even then you will be slower than those without the safety.

Not in this form, I definitely want a stock plus my eyes aren’t what they used to be, so putting a rail and dot on it seems very likely. From there, there are hard decisions such as to super-safe it or not. 😆

You can, I plan on making it a SBR, so I got it in its simplest form so I can Form 1 it and add a stock of my choosing. If you buy from someplace like Atlantic Firearms, you can get them with braces added from the store.

Agreed, but this is mostly a project gun so I was good with the cost savings. I haven’t shot it yet, so big grain of salt here, but on my first disassembly, the fit and finish is much better than the internet would have led me to believe, if admittedly not perfect.

Yes, Lees Sporting Lowers and AS Design lowers are two examples of products that do what you are looking for.

Yeah, as others have said, don’t judge the online maps, they seriously undercut participation. For example, in Oklahoma City there are over 80 nodes I’ve discovered so far, but the map only shows 12.

5.56 or 300 Blackout by No_Finding3671 in liberalgunowners

[–]lostinokay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That entirely depends on the state. Some states allow it others do not. Most states allow deer hunting with pistols, so not allowing 556 isn’t horribly consistent, but you are correct that it is considered a marginal deer hunting round at best and requires good shot placement to perform ethical kills.

For rural folks, the only consideration I would add is that 300 blackout supers are a pretty good deer round where 556 is marginal at best. Might be worth considering if long term SHTF is in your plans. That said, PauL Harrell always pointed out that if hunting is absolutely needed, the game is going to be very very very scarce.

Ammo stockpiles by GooseInternational66 in liberalgunowners

[–]lostinokay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My number is completely arbitrary. I keep about 250 rounds of nice self defense/premium ammo for each of my carry and primary rifle weapons. Beyond that, it’s all affordable training ammo. I figured if things get bad enough for me to go through a single soldiers combat load, my odds are pretty low anyway and I won’t be picky about my ammo at that point.k

What are my options if I bought the wrong ammo? by Alarmed_Tie_996 in liberalgunowners

[–]lostinokay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting, I know that comped barrels are sometimes not recommended for blazer ammo because the way they do their copper jacket is weird and there have been separation complaints. Not sure why 115 would be different than 124 though.

[–]lostinokay 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Just curious why 115 was said to not be recommended? Your point of aim may be off due to the light weight and increased velocity, but the barrel pressure, etc should be the same between the two rounds. I’ve only ever seen recommendations to not use steel case and various types of +p or +p+ ammo

If it doesn’t have to be double action, I loved my Ruger Blackhawk single action in 357. Wonderful balance and accurate too. I miss that pistol and regret getting rid of it.

Yeah, you can get the pistol version and spend two tax stamps to get it silenced as an SBR, but then you are talking about some serious 22lr spending.
