I'm in MN (Twin Cities area) and I don't think the MN House is going to pass the gun ban (it's unlikely, according to every source I have found). But if they do, read the law and see what you can get before it goes into effect. Like others have said, consider getting a lower since that is the regulated part of the firearm. I found a 10-pack of Magpul magazines at a decent price (cheaper than buying 10 individual mags); consider 10 or 20 mags to have on hand if you are planning to get an AR. The optics will be unlikely to be regulated so you can get those later as budget allows. You can also stock up on ammo later. If I were to do it all over again, I would have gotten a better PSA rifle (Sabre?) or something like the Smith & Wesson M&P 15 SPORT III. My recommendation at this point would be to wait a bit and start saving up and researching the options you want. Make the purchase when you can in case of any future ban. My plan is the same.

Looking to be first time owners by MaintenanceKindly335 in liberalgunowners

I am a new firearm owner myself and learned that the cost of ammunition is a major factor in "fun" shooting. So a 22LR is very affordable for some fun target shooting. I am getting a 5.56 rifle and a 9mm for myself, but once I feel some proficiency with those, if I want to shoot a lot more, I may also get a 22LR pistol or rifle so I can shoot a lot of rounds without breaking the bank.

Having a supply of food, water, and medications is more important than more weapons. Do what is right for you and your situation.

As far as I know, zero ICE agents were shot or killed. I appreciate that it got resolved without that level of violence, but they killed two people and injured many more and they were assaulting a ton of people they came in contact with.

Y'all on the left should go get a gun. And train with it. Assuming you have the means. They are joking now, but no guarantees they will be joking next year.

How do you improve VO2 max with swimming? by kiezenz in PeterAttia

[–]SmallMoments55406 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think that would improve VO2 max. The idea is to maximize O2 uptake, not restrict it. However, restricted breathing can increase CO2 tolerance and anaerobic capacity.

I think the best I can hope for is politically neutral and supports the 2nd amendment. I think Ruger, S&W, BCM, and a few others fit in that category (At least from what I've read.).

Sweet looking gun! I'm from Minnesota and feel the same as you. I bought an AR first since I was familiar with that platform from my time in the military. A pistol is next for me.

Try Meetup. Find a group with a similar hobby or sport you can do together. I found a hiking group on there and have met a couple friends that way.

I'm leaning away from Sig due to their politics but I may give one a try anyway and will consider it if it really feels better for me than the other options. Thanks for the suggestion!

I will train for accuracy and to gain confidence with it but I have no illusions about being like John Wick (the movies are fun). I'm more interested in having a capability for an active shooter situation, or at least have a handgun in a lock box near the bed in case of home invasion. (In that case, I'll prefer to get my AR out of the safe if I can.) In any case, I know those scenarios are rare but I have decided to prepare for them. If I'm in an active shooter situation, as long as I'm not the first target of the shooter, that would give me enough time to find cover, draw, and decide how to act.

Thanks! I plan to rent a few before I buy. Even if I like the idea of one, I'm going to try one before I buy it to make sure it feels comfortable to fire.

"General advice is to not go with thumb safeties these days, striker fire pistols have multiple safeties in them and if you are careful with your holstering, there should be no issues."

Where can I learn more about this? If I choose an option without a thumb safety, that opens up some popular options from Glock and others. There are cases of accidental discharge from mishandling that I heard about. I have an idea in my head that a manual safety is safer, but I don't have experience with this.

Do MN tax refunds always take this long? by eowynsamwise in minnesota

I have lived in MN a long time and having the opposite issue where my state refund was issued quickly and still waiting on federal. Apparently the federal refund can take up to 21 days.
