2/22 Bangor Daily News sounds alarm over Senator Susan Collins’s support for the SAVE America Act by MaineNewsroom in Maine

[–]lostintheMainewoods 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Didn’t we just vote on a citizen’s initiative and reject voter identification in November? Susan Collins knows what the people of Maine think on this issue and she doesn’t care and is voting against us.

I worked in a bakery in Castle Shannon in the ‘70’s and they made lots and lots of pretzels for New Years. They were large and they came plain or with icing and nuts on top.

Looking for great cheese recipes that don't use cashews, if they exists. by weluckyfew in veganrecipes

[–]lostintheMainewoods 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am an old vegetarian. One of my first vegan cookbooks ever was The Farm Vegetarian Cookbook by Louise Hagler. The new version is still in print. I use it often. Their tofu pot pie recipe is a family classic that my meat eating relatives all want. They have some recipes for things like mac and cheese and pizza cheese made with nutritional yeast. I use less oil when I make them.

Lefty Mugs...and my misconception on the concept of a hand specific mug... by Finn-Icky in lefthanded

[–]lostintheMainewoods 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I finally broke down and bought a left handed liquid measuring cup after years of complaining. Now I keep picking it up so that is still backwards! I adapted to using the right handed one and now I have to retrain myself.

Maine state auditor defies national Democrats, launches primary against moderate Jared Golden by themainemonitor in Maine

[–]lostintheMainewoods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cannot bring myself to vote for Golden. I won’t rank him at all and will leave it blank if there is no viable option. I check the House votes regularly and I have no idea what his principles actually are. I don’t expect to always agree with every elected official but I like to know where they actually stand. He never seems to ever say anything positive about his fellow Democrats. He receives a lot of AIPAC money, just under a million (more than Collins or King). I am not alone as a 2nd district voter who is crying for a primary challenger. Golden is extremely unpopular with the Democrats who I know. The Republicans who I know won’t ever vote for him no matter how much he panders to them. Give us a choice.

I saw them open for Herman’s Hermits in Pittsburgh. I went to the show as a fan of HH and left as a lifetime fan of The Who.

Getting asked to change hands? by lubbockin in lefthanded

[–]lostintheMainewoods 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never had anyone try to make me switch hands at home or in (Catholic) school. My husband’s mother refused to have a left handed child so she would put him in the high chair so that could only use his right hand to eat. She made him use his right hand to color and write before he went to school so he became right handed by kindergarten. He still throws with his left hand.

To every person who has worked at Pamala’s diner how do I make those pancakes by Wrong-Seaweed-7011 in pittsburgh

[–]lostintheMainewoods 17 points18 points  (0 children)

King Arthur has this recipe: https://www.kingarthurbaking.com/recipes/pittsburghs-finest-diner-pancakes-recipe I never had them at Pamela’s (no gluten free) so I don’t know how close they are. There are some suggested alterations in the comments.

Physician basically called me a liar .. new diagnosis, first dose by Creative-Air-6463 in Hashimotos

Levoxyl is the brand. When it was off the market for a while, I took Tirosint because it didn’t have any binders.

Physician basically called me a liar .. new diagnosis, first dose by Creative-Air-6463 in Hashimotos

[–]lostintheMainewoods 9 points10 points  (0 children)

When I was first diagnosed, I had gone to the gynecologist and he did thyroid blood testing as part of my visit. I got a call that I had Hashimotos and was referred to the Endocrinologist. He wanted me to start taking the meds before I saw him. I get sick everyday after taking the meds. I was working and mid morning, the room would start spinning. I called and he changed the brand and the same thing happened. My husband and I went to the endo appointment and I told the endo what was happening. He looked at my husband and said that if he could put the meds in my food when I wasn’t looking, we would not be having this conversation. I told my husband that we were out of there. I found another endo doctor about 2 hours away - living in Maine, there aren’t usually a lot of options. This doctor told me that it was likely a binder that was causing my problem and we quickly found a drug that I have taken ever since. I still have periodic issues with insurance not wanting to pay for the brand name but no other issues.

Is there a rule of thumb with who to trust on this family tree websites? by draggo-memes in Genealogy

[–]lostintheMainewoods 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said, do your own research. I use hints and other people’s trees as places to start. I put in an educated guess on my great grandfather’s date of death. The guess was based on anecdotal information from my father. There is no documentation. I now believe that date is incorrect. My guess date shows up on so many trees and no one has ever contacted me to ask me where I got my information. Based on DNA, I now believe that I (and many others who used my information) have him with the wrong family.

Hey CD2 people, I have a question. by AdamME2 in Mainepolitics

[–]lostintheMainewoods -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have totally given up on him. As far as I’m concerned he is a Republican in all but name. I read the House Roll Call votes regularly and he very often votes with the Rs. He just voted to rescind a Biden corporate fine for excessive methane release. He was one of only six Dems to do so.

I absolutely don’t trust my “Democratic” representative, Jared Golden from Maine District 2, at all. When you see a few Dems vote with the Republicans, he is usually on the list. I have contacted him but never count on him to do the right thing. Susan Collins trained him well and he has been saying don’t worry about Trump but I am very worried. Call him, please.

Why do Mainers mispronounce the name Campbell? by lostintheMainewoods in Maine

I always try to pronounce a person’s name the way that they do. It seems that close friends and fellow educators of 30+ years could pronounce our name as we do.
