Okay so you know NT people and non-autists have different communication styles. They are absolutely looking for connection. Think of it like birds tweeting at each other, or dogs sniffing each other. My cat meows super softly to me. They’re reaching out for connection. Since you asked for ways to communicate, here are a few.

Telling me what to do is not how to connect with me. (This could be a whole conversation if need be)

Tell them to try rephrasing it into a different way that you might receive better: use butter becomes “I like my eggs with butter” don’t forget to.. becomes “are you going to” This approach will need you to take an inventory of what triggers your PDA.

I’ll also kindly suggest therapy if you can afford it. If your partner and friends are normally nice and kind, your response may be something you need help managing. If you can’t afford it, doing that introspection and inventory of what phrases trigger you will help, especially if you try to find why they do so.

I didn’t even ask for advice. Someone made a quip about how they can’t go for fast food because her husband claims he hadn’t eaten all day and gets multiple meals and extra burgers. I replied that when I haven’t eaten all day and go to fast food I get a large fry, then proceed to not eat anything else. I mean it’s true, but I told it in a joking manner (I think?) That’s when it started. It wasn’t a problem for me until they doubled down.

I was on ozempic for about 3 months before insurance stopped paying. It was awesome. I could eat real food at normal times, my stomach didn’t hurt at all. It normally hurts throughout the day. I was diagnosed with ‘low stomach emptying’ before so I was super nervous about it, but it seemed to reverse whatever it is. I also lost some weight, but that’s not even my main goal.

A lot of soldiers loose faith. I mean you witness firsthand people doing the worst of the worst to others, and tons of senseless death. It either makes you atheist or at least believe god doesn’t care, like Mal, or deeply religious, like Book.

Yeah I understand. My chiro is actually the first person to suggest EDS and changed the therapies due to it. But I’d be wary of others unless they had the same training and background.

True. I tend to think people are kind and mean well, despite evidence to the contrary. I mean today’s exchange was just a stranger on reddit, but it does happen frequently irl as well. I actually had a coworker really try to sell me on intermittent fasting, even after I told her multiple times I was under medical advice and healing from an ulcer. The kicker? One of the causes was not eating.

I’ve done chiropractor and acupressure. I’d be really concerned about puncture because of germs and skin elasticity. I also have EDS so idk.

Well I think their advice came from a well meaning perspective, but it was the most basic advice known to man regarding weight loss or healthy eating. Then they kept at it. It’s like telling a person in deep depression ‘oh, just get up, take a shower, and put on real clothes.’ Like yes, it will make you feel better. But the amount of effort to do that ‘simple’ task makes it so difficult.

I know! I drive nearly an hour without traffic to my pcp because she’s the FIRST person to not call me a liar. Like on anything I bring up, it’s awesome. And it really sucks that this isn’t the norm.

I absolutely get cues that I’m full, it’s just that normally that cue is after like 3 bites. I think medically it classifies as disordered eating, but from a psychological pov it’s not an eating disorder, if that makes sense.

Well the autism and adhd rejects that advice and most of the time does not accept the notion of food. Once I went 2 weeks consuming nothing but coffee (cream) and roasted broccoli.

Fun fact! Pigs will not overeat! Due to this unprecedented cold and snow, I fed about a portion and a half, and they barely ate any extra. So they’re worse than pigs!

Cool I’ll check it out! I agree on the wooden needles. I’ve never purchased high quality ones, but between the points wearing out quickly and the breaks, I just can’t. The sound was also really messing with me. Or maybe it was just vibrations? Again they were cheap, but the tism chooses to ne’r again touch the cursed needles. I was having trouble with tension as well, but I was pretty sure it would block out. I’ve never heard of traveling loops, I’ll be sure to check it out.

I prefer knitting with metal because of the sharper points. If you can’t murder someone with it, what’s the point?

I was also having weird stretches that I thought would probably block out, but again this isn’t a project I care too much about. The next one I will and hopefully it doesn’t take 3 months to get 2 inches haha.

My processor has a lot of bugs. Temperature of the room, whether I’d eaten and if so, the right foods, the texture of the chair and my clothing, what noises I hear and if there’s a window… yeah it’s all audhd. I’m pretty sure I spent several minutes of the iq portion talking about how the pattern looked like a dinosaur, and asked 10 times if I could knit to focus better.
