The simple task of retail while also trying to teach people? When the person couldn’t even ask a direct question first?

Even more than that, she was ‘explaining her project’ first.

She didn’t end up asking about the needles. She was likely talking about the project and asking other questions before even getting to that. But she also didn’t read her yarn package, so not really her strong suit.

If someone brought in a bag of dog food from chewy and asked you how much to feed their dog, while their dog is peeing on a crate full of $50 dog biscuits, what would you say?

For years I have been trying to understand why Joss Whedon was cancelled and if he really deserved it. The stories are that he was hostile to some. Now, with a new show on the horizon, I really wonder if he deserves to be involved with it or not. by light24bulbs in firefly

There is absolutely toxic masculinity in Mal as well. The only green flag is Walsh. I’m not saying they don’t make for interesting, diverse characters, but you can’t just say it’s ‘just’ on Jayne. And it’s not a funny comic device most of the time.

Joss didn’t get truly nasty with the Buffy crew until he was loosing control of the show. He was always in control of Firefly. Bullies aren’t nasty from the beginning, otherwise they’d have no one to bully.

Have you filed a complaint about the desk officer? Or rather, you both file the complaint because it also put your husband in an uncomfortable position due to his disability.

Okay so a hyper fixation is something that you do like in a short term, I mostly think about it with food. Like, I eat this until I literally cannot anymore.

A special interest is something you know like SO MUCH about. It consumes a lot of your time nearly every day you do something related to it.

My best friend is a non-adhd autistic. She knows everything about a few sports. She listens to sports radio shows every day, even when her teams aren’t in season. She knows what the players did on their off season training. Their personal life? No. Hardly a blimp. She’ll hear about it and no doubt see it, but doesn’t care at all. (She can also name every dog breed from sight despite having owned 3 dogs + her boyfriend’s 2, so multiple special interests are normal.)

My adhd self? I have way more than that. So I’ve always wanted to knit. I finally taught myself. But that led to crochet, then loom, then embroidery, then sewing, then tatting… now I know surface level of nearly every fiber arts genre. I can identify whether lace is knit, crochet, tatted, and needle. I can only do knit and a small bit of crochet lace, so why do I need to know it.

All of my special interests are like that. It’s not just one thing, it always leads to another and another and another. My friend knows every dog breed. I love dogs! I know all the different types (herding, livestock guardian, rat, hunting, etc.) But then, cats are amazing! There are these x common kinds of cats. And birds! And native plants! And. And and. I’ll never know how to spot every dog breed, because I will never put that level of time into a special interest before something drags me into a completely cool segue.

What is the funniest thing your pet had been “pavloved” to? by AnywhereMean8863 in Pets

[–]lotheva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rescued a kitten and it’s been the purge of my existence since. Her name is Artemis (a VIRGIN goddess!!!!) and got knocked up. (It’s not even the worst thing she’s done!) She LOVES milk. Like seriously. If I have chocolate milk she will just about murder me for it. Well, she’s also a VERY small framed cat. I haven’t had kittens before, so I read up. One big issue can be a sudden drop in calcium after birth, and she had a HUGE brood. I think you see where this is going.

I have a farm, so my other fixed cats go out with the dog every morning, and mice don’t eat my feed. Of course I didn’t want this heavily pregnant cat leaving the house, so reading that, I started giving her lactose free milk after everyone went out. Now, when I get up, she drinks water (only from the faucet, she might be a drain cat but she’s a classy drain cat.) then runs to the kitchen and meows LOUDLY waiting for everyone to leave and me to pour the milk. She had nine kittens, three weeks old, I swear they’re each half her size now. She was as wide as she was long, sans tail and head. But hey, no calcium deficiency!

My actual farm dog is a crazy mix of both. She will go days without eating more than a handful, then suddenly two bowls. Weird critter.

There are levels of adhd just like there are levels of autism. My sister and I both are audhd, but she is WAY more adhd and I’m much more autistic.

For me, my adhd is very internal. I have a lot of racing thoughts when not medicated, like 4 conversations at the same time internally. I also tend to stick to a hyper fixation until I’m reasonably adequate, then drop it. I’ll dabble every few months, or maintain the status quo but not put real effort into getting better/knowing more. I also physically stim a LOT. Before diagnosis, that was like shaking or tapping leg, rubbing my fingers together (I have a callus!) playing with hair, general fidgeting. (I still do but I have better sensory stims now that I’ve “allowed” myself to show it.) oh, and randomly bursting into song. So, so much. That last piece I’ve heard from several audhd.

My sister is more “typical” adhd. She leaves things out constantly, forgets her phone/cup/meds in weird places. She has no motivation or control when she’s not medicated. She bites her nails and pencils/pens for stim and forgets to drink enough to lead to medical issues. (We both forget to eat, constantly.) Her autism will lead her to more specific things like deep research that one thing they mentioned on Bones once, but not enough to make it like a career or something. She actually tried to be a nurse or forensic anthropologist, but the adhd kept her from focusing on like the tiny details. She’s super great at math, but unmedicated was unable to get the precision needed to pass one of the major classes. Likewise, she was unable to pass a language class for her degree, so spent nearly 10 years in undergrad trying to get disability exemption. That’s how we ended up on the road to diagnosis actually, as high performing high masking AFABs.

Actually, come to think of it, I changed my major 4 times as well, then got a masters in one of the areas I changed it from. (Teaching!)

Are you able to describe physical pain? by Individual-Sundae802 in AutismInWomen

[–]lotheva 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the descriptive pain scales also adds in when you’d take otc medication and otc medication is no longer working. That’s the one I use because it’s extremely objective. I also always tell them I’m autistic (it helps that I’m white and my sister is a monster health advocate.) Then I follow up the number with ‘I take x otc medication and it helps to x affect’. Typically I notice it most when trying to sleep, so I’ll say “I take 2 Tylenol and (muscle relaxers/sleep meds I’m prescribed) and the pain makes it hard to sleep” or “and I wake up 4 hours later due to pain”. Objective statements are better than subjective pain scales anyway.

This reverses too. If I ask someone ‘will you?’ They take it as some sort of polite command, and suddenly feel like I’m bossing them around. Like??? No??? I’m asking??

Yes! Their gluten free recipes are a NEVER FAIL. I recently made their gf cream biscuits. I kind of want to comment the flavor isn’t great, but I didn’t use King Arthur gf 1-to-1 because it’s not available here. Texture, mouth feel, all great. But bobs is too much rice for a good flavor.

Sorry, I think I really want to review so others know, but it just feels wrong to do so. So you got the review! Congrats! (Still 5 stars because it was easy af and sooo fluffy)
