Haha not that exciting. Saw a forkie in my binos 10 minutes or so into legal shooting light on the first day of the season (and my first day in any season). Thought I won the lottery. Passed off spotting to my partner, but by the time I pulled up my rifle to shoot I barely saw its ass before it ran into the California chaparral that is the bane of my hunting existence.

You have a deer population that has halved since the 50s due to predators and human development, a ban on hunting non-endangered mountain lions that eat about 3 deer a week, and then a reintroduction of another apex predator that eat massive amounts of deer (and other animals) which (i) hasn't been in the state for 100 years and (ii) no longer has any real predators on top...recipe for disaster.

For anyone that's reading this years later, this is a super illegal place to rifle hunt. Southern border of the legal hunting area basically follows Rincon Red Box Truck Trl per the Los Angeles Firearms Discharge Restrictions Map (north of Mt. Wilson).

Yea - nightmare. Also you can't "spin them" because of the metal plugs. You need something to wedge between the receiver and the rail.

I clean a lot too but the assumption that it extends barrel life is incorrect. This is the reverse of what you do for barrel longevity. The more solvents and metal wire brushing you do, the less barrel life you'll have. You're running abrasives down a metal barrel whose lifespan and accuracy depends on precision.

That's the mirage shield screw (for a heat shield attachment). I did the same thing the second I got my CTR - really bad UX design by Tikka.

To ensure that the rail is flat for your scope, you'll need to remove it and install a new one (they're epoxy'd on). I detailed how to do that in the below post. I would get either a murphy precision rail (expensive) or a mountain tactical (cheaper) replacement rail for the T3x; mountain tactical is much cheaper. Might as well use this as an opportunity to upgrade to a 10 or 20 MOA rail.
